Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.9 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by platpeeps on 2/13/2024 & rated 94 points: A fully mature deep bronze hue gave off very sweet and honeyed raisin rich fruit infused with a streak of minerality and acidity to keep it in check. The predominant flavour was toffee apple, and the length of finish extraordinary. One could not help but admire the complexity as well as the longevity. CHP 94 pts (400 views)
Tasted by melvinyeowq on 12/11/2023: Wines at Zau Mei: By the glass. Dark brown in colour, honey and apricot notes; lacked the freshness I would expect from Huet. Not the most representative bottle I suspect. (708 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 6/29/2022 & rated 92 points: Night out in Covent Garden (Noble Rot and 10 Cases) (Noble Rot / 10 Cases, London): Very nice, but not quite the knock-out I expected it to be. It promised much on the nose, which was just gorgeous, with subtly layered aromas of honey and treacle, candied apples and sweet florals, and then bassier notes of earth, spice and mineral, all this lightly laced with some classic lanolin notes. I felt the palate was still a little too sweet and slightly monolithic after that knockout of a nose. There was enough acidity to keep it balanced, unless paired with Stilton, which was amazing, but nicely balanced, but it just felt a little less finely drawn than I would expect. Nice flavours though - candied apples, honey, straw, and a little hint of molasses moving into a long finish that had a linger of spice bad lanolin. When paired with Stilton and nuts this just sang. I must say though, it was nevertheless sweet enough that finishing a bottle between two people was a bit of a struggle. (499 views)
Tasted by goodvitis.com on 4/13/2022 & rated 93 points: Original release. Pours a dark brown, but the cork was in fantastic condition. Wafts golden raisin, prune, spice cake, pineapple syrup, and preserved lemon. Full bodied with a semi-syrup-like consistency and healthy and balanced acid, the structure is on point. Flavors include prune juice, strawberry, orange marmalade, honeysuckle, and finishes with a Sprite note. Although the flavors and aromas show the wine’s age, the structure remains vibrant. Not the best extended-vintage Huet Premiere Trie I’ve had, but impressive nonetheless. I wouldn’t sit on these any longer. (1376 views)
Tasted by HowardNZ on 1/28/2021: The End of the Golden Weather: a pre-COVID-19 Visit to Central Otago in Autumn 2020: Another old treasure from a great year. Complex with nougat, smoky, burnt toffee, mandarin and apricot. Candied citrus fruit and apple. Drinking beautifully. (2488 views)
Tasted by Gregmonroe on 11/6/2020: Friday Wine Group - GA (Blind Lunch): Nose of honey+lemon+apricot. The nose on this one jumped out of the glass, and indicated a sweet, nectar like wine. Flavors of sweet, maybe stewed apricot or other stone fruit, with honey. Very good, and paired well with slightly spicy gumbo. I called a late harvest sauv blanc. (1798 views)
Tasted by dream on 11/12/2019 & rated 94 points: Simply gorgeous dessert wine with a fairly dark color and great freshness. Plenty of tangy intensity is present with flavors of ripe apricot and copper minerals. Rather viscous but also very fine and precise with great acidity and a palate-staining finish showing superb notes of molasses and minerals. At 11 Madison. (2109 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 9/2/2018 & rated 94 points: Wife's birthday celebration dinner. Decanted through aerator for 30 minutes to clear any possible mustiness (not that there was any).
Deep honey-golden colour, and indeed had distinct botrytis honeyed nose. Viscous but not cloying. Palate packed with exotic stoned fruits (esp apricots, cooked peach), orange zest, hints of Zanzibar spice and floral nuances. Honey-sweet but with excellent balancing acidity. Very long. Superb.
Based on this singleton should be good for at least 40yrs from vintage. (2464 views)
Tasted by BradKNYC on 9/23/2017: Deeply bronzed in color at this point. Quite sweet, but showing plenty of acid backbone that keeps the wine in perfect balance. Apricot, apple and earl grey tea aromas and flavors with a distinct botrytis character. Great length with a lip-smacking finish. Mature, but with decades of life left. Terrific wine! A. (3291 views)
Tasted by LWI on 4/22/2017 flawed bottle: corked (2323 views)
Tasted by pjaines on 11/29/2016: Boom. Back of the net. Great wine with an incredible deep orange colour and incredible aromatics and then a pure, finessed finish on the palate that crackles with sea air, bruised apples and a tangy, salty finish. (2670 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 7/31/2016: Golden with an orange tint. Gorgeous nose of honey, spice, and ripe peach. Full bodied, succulent fresh fruit, great acidity, endless finish. Fully mature, pretty glorious now. (2468 views)
Tasted by Rupert on 10/31/2011 & rated 94 points: Beaucastel v Vieux Télégraphe 1978-1990 (The Square, Mayfair, London): Deep, tangy, with a gloriously lush nutty palate (6178 views)
Tasted by gout on 12/5/2009 & rated 93 points: A deep golden colour, clear & bright, mature complex honeyed nose, very sweet on entry, full flavoured with beautiful balancing acidity. (4105 views)
Tasted by sawira on 11/28/2008 & rated 93 points: Beautiful. Young, nutty, a crowd pleaser. On the cusp of more complexity. This is very good, but there's more in the wings. Wait 5 years on remaining bottles. (3753 views)
Tasted by otisabdul on 2/23/2006 & rated 92 points: Christie's Dinner at Charlie Trotter's (Charlie Trotter's, Chicago): Deep gold color. The nose smelled like wet ditto ink. Flavors were on the nutty sweet side - caramel, popcorn. A terrific pairing with the soup, especially the butternut squash and pumpkin seeds. A very interesting wine that was much better with food. (6294 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/23/2006 & rated 90 points: Christie's Wine Dinner (Charlie Trotter's - Chicago IL): Floral start with intense and concentrated stone fruit on palate. Spicy finish with great balance through to long finish. At its peak but no hurry to drink up. (3732 views)
Tasted by Will on 4/29/2005: Very engaging nose and impressive finish. Somewhat lacking in balance as I find is often the case with sweet Loires - just a bit too sweet for the underlying acidity. The palate was not focused enough for my tastes but to be fair the wine also suffered from the comparison to the 2 other bottles opened at the same time (94 Z-H TPG Clos Windsbuhl VT and 89 d'Yquem). (2888 views)
Tasted by Joe Belmaati on 5/19/2004 & rated 93 points: Golden yellow colour. Marvellous bouquet on notes of orange peel. Very good focus and grip to this with nice high toned acid and freshness. There was a mineral element to the taste that I found to be quite attractive, and the mouthfeel was soft, smooth and velvet-like. Nice, long aftertaste. (3214 views)
