Community Tasting Notes (average 91.6 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 40 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Deadhead on 1/13/2024 & rated 94 points: This bottle was great! Definitely better than previous bottles. Not sure why - same disgorgement and storage. (221 views)
Tasted by Vinumming & Ahhing on 12/14/2023 & rated 91 points: Christmas Cornucopia WIMPS #172 14th December 2023 (La Trompette, Chiswick): Clean lemon and lime nose, some hints of sherbet and sliced Granny Smith apple. Palate has lovely acidity and poise. Plenty of life ahead. With some air the palate adds some lime juice and grapefruit pith. (398 views)
Tasted by Deadhead on 11/22/2023 & rated 92 points: disgorged 7/2018. (267 views)
Tasted by Blair Curtis on 9/1/2023 & rated 92 points: Quite delicious. Disgorgement June 2017. This is the first bottle I've tried of the few I bought. Some lovely bready, toasty development, but overall this still shows as youthful and bright (not painfully bright like some younger grower Champagnes though). Lovely lemon acidity with a bit of creaminess. This one proved very versatile at a restaurant pairing brilliantly with a course of tomato and ricotta salad, and also with spaghetti alla nerano (the lemons popping out and melding superbly with the dish). Really nice Champagne. (358 views)
Tasted by Vinumming & Ahhing on 12/5/2022 & rated 89 points: Greatest Hits of the 1980s & 1990s Bordeaux (Hawksmoor Guildhall, London, UK): Lemon oil nose with a little ginger. Later a granary bread crumb character emerges. Some sherbet pips too. Palate is taught with good persistence. With air some melon emerges with some subtle honeyed notes. This is a good drop but was fresher and had a tad more energy 18 months ago. (756 views)
Tasted by oenanthe on 12/5/2022 & rated 88 points: Greatest Hits of the 1980s and 1990s Bordeaux (Hawksmoor Guildhall): A nice light frothy mousse, very fine effervescence, but one that fades quite quickly, possibly due to wide glasses used. Nice complexity with citrus, apple and melon, and a good dollop of bread. Quite toasty actually. I would describe this as relaxed and generous, quite mellow. (798 views)
Tasted by gilrbo on 10/5/2022: Drunk over dinner in good company, no TN.
Quite sharp on mainly citrus notes, but with plenty of depth to make interesting. A wonderful champagne. (579 views)
Tasted by Deadhead on 3/5/2022 & rated 92 points: Great QPR! Lovely and delicious. (663 views)
Tasted by king-bing on 2/27/2022: Super fresh without ever being too sharp. Lemony clean and light. Lovely aperitif champagne. (640 views)
Tasted by Deadhead on 12/22/2021 & rated 92 points: July 2018 disgorgement. Super tasty and a great value! (454 views)
 Tasted by Dutchd1 on 11/30/2021 & rated 90 points: Great value for a 2008.
Will buy again. (685 views)
Tasted by Vas19 on 10/9/2021 & rated 91 points: Nice acidity, not toasty or oxidative style. A little generic, but pleasant to drink. (721 views)
Tasted by Chrisinroch on 1/25/2021: Tasty fuller bodied champagne. Better on day 2. I'd buy again at this price $50 (792 views)
Tasted by whits on 1/11/2021 & rated 93 points: Bright, breezy scents of peach pits and yeast, fine beads, bright acid, seamless and layered with lemon zest and mineral flavors, mouthwatering, graceful, opens up over an hour in the bottle, you will not find a better pairing with cold ginger chicken (761 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 7/4/2020: This is a nice classically styled Champagne. It's 60/40 Pinot/Chard but the Chard seems to dominate. The Pinot is seasoning. Nice and even but somehow not quite as expressive as you hope. It's tasty but just that. Not quite another level. Solid. Should work for many audiences. Somehow for an 08 coming out this late you kind of wanted a bit more. Nice. (1128 views)
Tasted by Deadhead on 5/10/2020 & rated 92 points: Disgorged July 2018. Another solid 2008 champagne. (895 views)
Tasted by jviz on 3/13/2020 & rated 90 points: Nice wine, some reduction, good focus, some green apple. Will benefit from cellar time. (857 views)
Tasted by Karinfagerberg3 on 11/4/2019 & rated 88 points: Drank over 3 days. First day a bitter taste but evolved day 2-3 to show a lovely fruit and nice acidity to match. Recommended, but let it breathe a bit.... 90 pts on the 3rd day! (460 views)
Tasted by acyso on 5/12/2019 & rated 90 points: Sunday Funday (Chicago, IL): Yet another 2008 hit -- this is a lovely yellow-fruit-inflected champagne, with not much yeasty or bready qualities, but more focussing on the linear, acid-driven precision. It's not complex, but this forms a very nicely integrated package. Solid for the level. (1784 views)
Tasted by 5laton on 4/26/2019: Spiced apple, firm but not sharp acidity, a touch austere with no lingering sweetness. Solid and seems to have the basic materials to go somewhere. But it's not all that interesting at the moment, and I'm not inspired to load up - the Blanc de Blancs d'Ay is just a few bucks more, and should be excellent in this vintage. (522 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 3/27/2019 & rated 93 points: Champagne Trip- Day 3 (Gaston Chiquet, Pierre Paillard, Marguet, JC Mouzon) (Ay, Bouzy, Ambonnay, Verzenay, Champagne, France): Nose: The nose is deep and layered, filled with red apples, spiced pears, quince, peaches, citrus tones, toast, roasted nuts, warm dough, all on top of an underlying minerality.

Taste: The feel is Medium/full bodied with tart, high acidity. There is extra density to the feel but it is well balanced with red apples, spiced pears, quince, citrus tones, roasted nuts, warm dough, and mineral tones.

Overall: This is a beautiful and balanced 2008 champagne. There is some density to it already that is attractive with excellent depth and length. This is drinking great right now, but it can certainly age for at least another 5+ years. (743 views)
Tasted by pgm on 3/22/2019 & rated 93 points: A nice nose with toast and golden apple, but it gets great in the mouth, with powerful and delicious apple and peach pit notes, too juicy to be biscuity and plenty of toasty yeast notes there. (1023 views)
Tasted by WineGuyX on 2/25/2019 & rated 90 points: modestly toasty nose and very structured on the palate. Some minerality and toast on the palate, but this is in need of time! Drink 2021-2028 90+ (893 views)
Tasted by mattiasjansson on 2/21/2019 & rated 94 points: 2nd Growth Bordeaux (Boston): Clean nose. Apple. Fruit-forward. Long finish. (1230 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 1/30/2019 & rated 92 points: Nose: The nose is extremely well balanced and elegant, filled with red apples, biscuits, peaches, pears, baking spices, cinnamon, and vanilla beans. There is excellent depth and style to the nose with the tones all showing a good amount of freshness.

Taste: Medium bodied with high acidity. The acidity is bright and crisp while the feel is well balanced with red apples, peaches, vanilla beans, biscuits, and some mineral tones.

Overall: This is a lovely and refined champagne. It shows a lot of freshness and balance right now, but there is plenty here to see it age for another 8+ years with ease. (1166 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
