Tasted by YankeeRobio on 12/27/2023 & rated 98 points: Ripe plum, prune, blackberry, concentrated licorice, fig, pinecone, sweet tobacco and cocoa powder. Fantastic wine (1174 views)
Tasted by bubbachumps on 5/12/2023 & rated 95 points: Consistent with my prior notes (1792 views)
Tasted by Seanhitchcock on 4/21/2023 & rated 93 points: Really good. (1598 views)
Tasted by kandrfairview on 3/4/2023 & rated 92 points: We concur with others re the sweetness of the wine. My wife liked it with our kamado grilled filet mignon, but a little too sweet for my taste. We need to try our other Beckstoffer wines that we have in our cellar to give a better review. (1715 views)
Tasted by Backdoctor on 11/20/2022 & rated 94 points: Just a spectacular cab thats drinking well now. Always love Mike Smith's GIII (1831 views)
Tasted by Wineson on 11/11/2022 & rated 94 points: Light and sweet (1669 views)
Tasted by michigan dogs on 6/20/2022 & rated 95 points: Short decant, this improved over the evening, big Mike Smith wine with dark red fruits, loved it. (2182 views)
Tasted by Badmonkey on 6/15/2022 & rated 97 points: A couple years from my last tasting and figured it was time to revisit. So good - this is my favorite vintage of this wine that I’ve had so far. Dark ruby fruit - blackberry, currants, and dark cherry. Really smooth mid-palate with a beautiful purity and solid depth/concentration - medium plus body. Nice rich/vibrant flavors of dark berries, baking spices, cocoa, and a graphite component. Fairly long finish. Slow ox for a couple hours and drank out of a decanter for a couple more. Not much improvement with time but drinking quite well right away. In my opinion, Dunnuck can be a little generous at times but I believed he nailed it with his 97 rating for this wine - 96/97 for me this time around. 100% cab. (3244 views)
Tasted by TastesGoodToMe on 5/30/2022 & rated 96 points: 2 years since my last bottle. Yep, this is still a 96. Big, brooding, bold, and balanced...beautiful! (2621 views)
Tasted by YankeeRobio on 3/18/2022 & rated 98 points: Creamy blackberry, cassis, pinecone, sweet tar. Smooth with great velvety tannins (2430 views)
Tasted by twither on 1/15/2022 & rated 94 points: Muted for two days, finally broke through on day 3. (2326 views)
Tasted by michigan dogs on 1/5/2022 & rated 95 points: different experience than other
reviewers. Big wine, but not with the big fruit that I often associate with Mike's cabs. Cocoa, plum, maybe blueberry. Very well made, balanced. I have 2 more bottles so I will be able to see how these age. (2211 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 10/11/2021 & rated 97 points: This was an outstanding vintage, much better than my last bottle. I really like this wine. (3206 views)
Tasted by pa1966stang on 9/9/2021 & rated 92 points: From a technical perspective this wine is obviously a very high quality but is not my preferred style. Overly extracted and it feels like there is a tablespoon of residual sugar. Blueberry jam, silky mouth with little tannin. Missing any acidic contrast and balance. A point chaser. Serve this to impress clients at a steak house. Not wine geek friendly. (2256 views)
Tasted by csimm on 7/15/2021: Three 2016 Myriads: GIII, Empyrean, Crane.

It’s been a few years since I’ve had the opportunity to pop one of these 2016 GIIIs. As expected, this is pumping ripe and sweet fruit that gush and goo all over the palate with a signature posture that can only come from a top shelf Myriad Cabernet. The yum factor is turned up to 11 on the fruit-front attack that lovingly slathers the inside of the mouth.

Somewhat ironically, I find the finish on the GIII to tense up and become notably nervy. The perception of acid increases and the fruit cranks into focus. Side by side with the Empyrean, I would have called this GIII out as the Empyrean based on the finish - as I’ve experienced the Empyrean to generally have more scaffolding than the standard GIII. Personally, I’m happy by this GIII’s back end, as it leads me to believe there is some mid-term aging potential here.

Hold for another couple of years to see how it all plays out. Or just dotingly gulp it all up now if you could give two craps about any of the academics. (5299 views)
Tasted by Gnieboer on 5/8/2021 & rated 94 points: Tremendous extraction and intensity, but I agree with @Beau11, the residual sugar is a bit out of balance with the acidity and tannin. Super dark purple on pour, drunk over 3 hours, was approachable right up front and improved slightly over the eve. Blueberry compote and blackberry, and mild tobacco and cocoa rounding out the finish. (2541 views)
Tasted by beau11 on 4/15/2021 & rated 93 points: Very very sweet wine. Not the typical scorched earth profile of g3. Blueberry pie. I like fruit forward wines but this bottle was missing the tannin and acidity needed to offestthe sweet fruit. Still very good and approachable from pnp but that aspect keeps it from jumping higher. (2579 views)
Tasted by Mark1npt on 3/21/2021 & rated 94 points: Virtually a duplicate note to my last bottle of about 6 months ago....scoring just a point less and really only needed 45 min to an hour to open fully. Very nice bottle, in a very good spot, great density without being the least bit harsh or edgy, which is appealing, given all the harsh '18s out there right now. (4079 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 2/20/2021 & rated 95 points: Great wine and my favorite vintage yet for the Myriad Georges III. I don't think that this bottle was as intense as the previous. This wine, although revealing all of the elements of previous bottles, this one seem to show slightly leaner with more of an elegant profile. In any case, this is a great bottle of Cabernet. I wish there were more available. 94-95 Points. (3224 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 12/5/2020 & rated 97 points: 'Beauty and the Beast', I love this stuff. Big, bold and powerful. If you like extraction and every molecule of flavor in a grape removed, this is the wine for you. As mentioned before, great lavender/ floral notes on the nose and dark purple color. On the palate, an explosion of immense flavor’s moving the senses. Dark and black and blueberry fruit, some dark cherry, cassis blackberry liqueur and a trace of tobacco. Good concentration/ extraction but not overdone by my standards (others may disagree). A powerful Cab that is full-bodied with nice density, ripe tannins and at a delightful drinking point. 97 Points. Forget the steak, just pour be a glass of this one any time. (3199 views)
Tasted by Mark1npt on 10/6/2020 & rated 95 points: A very nice wine that grows over 1-2 hours with air. Probably a 92-93 at the pnp......got to a 94 an hour later but the last glass at 2-3 hours was a very decent 95. Lush cocoa dust got smoother, creamier by the end of the bottle and the fruit which has remained quite strong was dark black and blue at the end of the bottle. A pretty powerful wine with plenty of stuffing behind it. GIII is a great vineyard but is not necessarily my fav of the Beckstoffers. This bottle is very well balanced and drinking very well right now with 2 hour decant at the minimum..... (4957 views)
Tasted by bubbachumps on 10/3/2020 & rated 97 points: Big, rich and smooth cab with incredible density of fruit and structure. Notes of blueberry, black cherry, blackberry liqueur, cassis, graphite and a touch of cinnamon. Very complex nose that was constantly evolving of the course of the meal. Layers of flavor and scale on the palate, amazing density of juicy dark fruits without being over-extracted. The structure is very well concealed. This paired so nicely with a ribeye. This wine is just hitting on all cylinders right now but will continue to develop and improve. Amazing at this young stage right now! This really came out strong with minimal decant, but continued to open and evolve over the course of 4 hours. (2858 views)
Tasted by Justinwine on 7/31/2020 & rated 92 points: In several years a super star. (2851 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 7/11/2020 & rated 97 points: I have the 2018 but I decided to crack the 2016 instead, the 2018 can wait. Besides, I already know it’s very good. This 2016 is a special wine, 97+ points. See previous notes. (3543 views)
Tasted by sonodoc on 6/5/2020 & rated 96 points: Not much useful that I can add to everyone else’s comments, but would agree that this is a big bold and tasty Cab that is drinking very well. Had as a pop and pour with only slight improvement with time. (2739 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
