Tasted by hsacks on 7/10/2020 & rated 91 points: Now fully mature, this bottle was a touch less rich, a little lower in acidity and not as long on the palate as the 5/28/11. Still delicious with a grilled hanger steak but drink up! (709 views)
Tasted by StefanAkiko on 2/21/2015 & rated 91 points: Finnish birthday celebration DAY (eve) (La Verdura, Yokohama): Dark, rich, overwhelming robe, Nase und Hatch.

Not particularly elegant or subtle, but delivering a fabulous amount of concentration that made tonight's very fine '05 Rioja GR and '07 Pomerol behave like prancing pony Beaujolais Nouveaux...

Aromas are dark, extracted and superbly attractive. Well extracted from great grapes. Asphalt, herbs/spices, olive brine, licorice-licorice (w/out the anise seed aromas) and some very dry crumbling Australian clay that at least one Wallaby humped (jumped?) on. The aromas didn't suit all at the counter. Tannins are there, but melting away. Acids are much lower than previous btl (go figure!) and the general impression is of a great Oz wine that fits garlic, steak and all kinds of crude pleasures. A round and fabulous kiss! Lacking in complexity to merit a higher score.

Cork was absolutely perfect and would have easily gone for another 15 yrs.

Yay!!!

Much more enjoyable than previous btl. Has oomph left, but not much wiggle room when it comes to evolutionary expectations. Will surely be around for at least 5 more yrs.

Wife: preferred the Rioja GR.

Tasted by StefanAkiko on 4/12/2012 & rated 91 points: Non-blind. Decanted 3 hrs.
Dark red. Initial semi-mega peppery aromas and typical fruit. At restaurant settled down as a reasonable shiraz with a surprise that seems like a hint of unripe grapes. I never thought I'd find THAT in a Barossa. Per os it's a concentrated, balanced, typical and well built Oz shiraz with great acids. Tannins are in the lower end of the spectrum and there are less things going on than I was led to believe at the time of purchase. (By a famous critic, who else...)
Next bottle will, nonetheless, be a fine treat. (3202 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 5/28/2011 & rated 93 points: Deep purple color. Aromas of blueberries, violets and spice. Very plush and sauve in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Tannins are fully integrated and the wine is currently in its sweet spot for enjoyment. Not a blockbuster but a rich yet elegant Aussie shiraz that was delicious with grilled veal chop. (2822 views)

Two Hands

Producer website

U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)

The 'Two Hands' are Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz who formed the company in 1999 with the clear objective of making the best possible Shiraz-based wines from prized Shiraz producing regions within Australia. In 2000 they started with just 17 tonnes of fruit from the McLaren Vale and Padthaway wine regions, and the heart of the operation is based in the Barossa Valley. Since the winery opened, Two Hands sucess has gone from strength to strength with numerous accolades defining the culture of the organization. Two Hands Wines were listed in the Wine Spectator Top 100 for the last five years with two listings in the top 10, and the Ares was voted one of the 25 Benchmark Wines of Australia.
