Community Tasting Notes

Tasted by Heynetty on 5/21/2018: Wine Dojo - Week 11 - Dinner with the Red Devils (Annette's Place): Tasted Blind

A: Medium ruby
N: Medium (+) intensity. Violet, VA (acetic acid), red cherry and plum, pepper, chocolate coffee, leather, earth and tar. Developing.
P: As on nose but VA very apparent here. Dry, high acid, medium (+) tannin, alcohol, body and intensity. Long finish.
C: Very Good Quality wine. Drink now or keep. There is potential for aging and i like the QPR at $25/bottle

MY GUESS:
OLD WORLD, COOL CLIMATE, SANGIOVESE, CHIANTI CLASSICO (would expect more mushroom and earthier notes in a Brunello) (613 views)

Castello di Ama

Producer website
Location on Google Map

Castello di Ama’s 65.38 hectares of specialised vineyards, officially enrolled in the Chianti Classico Register, are located at elevations between 390 and 530 metres in calcareous-clay, pebble-rich soils.
Part of the vineyards were planted between 1974 and 1978, at an average density of 3,000 vines per hectare, while newer plantings at a density of 5,300 vines per hectare, starting in 1996 and continuing to the present date, replace the outdated vineyards.
The vines are vertically trained, to the open lyre pruned to the Guyot system, and to spurred cordon.
The varieties, grafted onto rootstock 420, are 80% Sangiovese and 20% Malvasia Nera, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
