Tasted by Janstan on 7/30/2022 & rated 86 points: Had by itself no food (818 views)
Tasted by Butzemann on 11/27/2021 & rated 87 points: D+0h: no deposit in the filter nor in the bottle, smells of blackberry D+4h: purple red colour, on the rim quite cherry red, smells of elderberry with both a little bit of blackberry and a little bit of smoke in the background, medium body, has a little bit of residual sugar, still has some unripe tannins, in the mouth elderberry and a little bit of blackberry, in the aftertaste elderberry and a little bit of acidity, good length (30 sec).
I’m kind of disappointed by this wine, perhaps it’s in a closed phase at the moment?, in any case I will let my other bottle (I think I have another of the 2016 (I’m bad a keeping track of my wine cellar)) rest for a year or two more, perhaps it will pull itself together with more time.
PS: The 2016 Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico is much better than the 2016 Brolio and drinking beautifully right now. It might be due to a more accessible style, perhaps the Brolio simply needs more time. (1936 views)
Tasted by Robwild on 3/6/2021 & rated 89 points: Better than anticipated based on other tasting notes. This is a very drinkable, every day Chianti at a good QPR. Light bodied, with some structure and mild tannins. Raspberries cherries and Oak. I would purchase again. (4564 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 3/5/2021: That is a bet of a rough ride. Better as it opens. (4700 views)
Tasted by Roustard on 1/14/2021 & rated 82 points: Disappointing. Thin and lacking fruit. Bitter aftertaste. (4525 views)
Tasted by guy12 on 12/12/2020 & rated 87 points: A bit thin & simple but pleasant enough (4009 views)

Tasted by Livonietisr on 2/20/2020 & rated 87 points: Cherry and oak on nose. Fruity with cherry taste. Light bodied average chianti. (3724 views)
Tasted by Frankket163 on 1/25/2020 & rated 85 points: light body a bit thin on the palate. Not much aroma and a short finish .
A disappointing wine. After a couple hours it had a bit more fruitiness in the taste. Overall not a good quality to price ratio wine (3616 views)
Tasted by Peter-Luke on 10/21/2019 & rated 87 points: Correct, mais à mon avis cette bouteille ne vaut pas le prix demandé. (3744 views)
Tasted by tomoem on 10/15/2019 & rated 87 points: A nice and well produced Chianti which falls short of being better than good. Bland fruits with Cherry being the most pronounced. Balanced it is but short on tannin makes me think this wine is not built to last. Thin and watery is my take away note. (3752 views)
Tasted by Hortus on 9/21/2019 & rated 84 points: Ordinaire. (3775 views)

Actually, it has everything you could expect from a chianti bottle.

Barone Ricasoli

Producer website

Barone Ricasoli is the oldest winery in Italy, producing wine at the estate since 1141. The current owner, Barone Francesco Ricasoli, is the 32nd generation Baron of the family. Geremia and Ridolfo were the original Ricasolis, but it was in the year 1000 that the Ricasoli family was granted the highest degree of power over their feudal land, the title of "Barone" decreed directly from the King. This title signified full autonomy over their lands and those who inhabited them. After centuries of defending their land and people, the Ricasoli family was the first to utilize their farmland and vineyards, producing and selling their best wine production. It has been documented from as early as the 16th century that Brolio had exported wine to Amsterdam and England and from the beginning of the 20th century, Brolio wine had become renowned and exported all over the world.

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
