Tasted by t0pshelf on 6/27/2023: 3rd and last bottle, same tasting notes as before (super light, lost most of its flavor/structure). It hasn't become undrinkable though. Enjoy it on a warm summer day when you need hydration! (893 views)
Tasted by canan on 4/16/2023 & rated 90 points: Sour cherries and fresh herbs with a lovely acidity. Great structure and completely open for consumption. Lovely and classic Sangiovese.
This is the version consisting of the 2013+2015 vintages. (1093 views)
Tasted by Abbondandolo on 1/27/2023 & rated 92 points: Cerbaiona never disappoints! (1204 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 1/9/2023: I agree with Jmull that this has been getting better and better. This bottle is quite solid, and I find myself regretting drinking these too early. Live and learn I guess. (1373 views)
Tasted by jmull on 12/31/2022 & rated 91 points: Gets better and better and better. (1243 views)
Tasted by kuumies on 12/19/2022: The nose is intensely fruity but in the best Tuscan fashion bright, red-toned and a bit tart. There is definitely a saline quality to it and I think there is also some VA here. On the palate it is medium-bodied, fleshy and lifted. It is easy to believe that it comes from Montalcino but for the area it is markedly fresh and light on its feet. There is un atypical tangy streak here that could be easily attributed to the share of Pinot. The acidity is absolutely terrific, rendering the finish rather lip-smacking even if there is also some tannic grip. It is altogether youthful but not really primary. There is no great depth to the fruit but for the tariff this wine delivers and then some. It is a wine for the table where it performs superbly. Cerbaiona is a dead serious address and they have not put out a middling product or a money grab here. I could easily go through a case or two of this as a midweek drinker. (388 views)
Tasted by Buff Tannen, USXFel Presidente on 6/3/2022: Soft and precise - what a great characterisation
The morello cherry has become even more vivid. Can this get better? Hard to imagine. Wish I had more of this wonderful stuff (1629 views)
Tasted by jmull on 5/2/2022 & rated 91 points: Just gets better and better. Soft and precise, great with almost anything (1236 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 11/20/2021: A better showing this time, if still not great. Reading the reviews below which noted the inclusion of some pinot in this wine, I did notice some pinot character. Whether that is the power of suggestion or not I don't know. In any case, I still don't love it but I enjoyed it more. I'll give the remaining bottles some more time and see if they improve.  Tasted by rraaffaa on 11/19/2021: Very nice easy drinking sangiovese (1441 views)
Tasted by Nojomoschwa on 11/7/2021 & rated 92 points: Wow! What an incredibly delicious and satisfying wine. 90% Sangiovese and 10% Pinot Noir (multi-vintage). I feel like this would be the perfect house red. It is approachable, fairly silky, a hint of fruit sweetness (PN) and is that a trace of oak, too? Absolutely superb for the money (just under $25) from this venerable producer. (1577 views)
Tasted by Buff Tannen, USXFel Presidente on 9/28/2021: Significantly more sophisticated 6 months later, by which of couse I mean higher acidity, with only the briefest of decants that may not have even been necessary. Love to watch those legs in the glass and think, 'now this is what all the fuss is about (1509 views)
Tasted by viniferatu on 9/9/2021: L 8/19 which I think must be a bottling date, as this is purportedly a blend of 2017 and 2018. It's also got 10% Pinot Noir alongside the 90% majority of Sangiovese, which is definitely throwing me off because I keep thinking "what's wrong here?" even though it's tasty stuff.

Aromas of yeast, vague herbs, blue and black fruits, a little violets. Fresh, juicy, tangy dark fruits. Nice stuff, easygoing and well suited to the table. Probably more interesting in 6 to 12 months, as it has enough balance and intensity to keep well and seems to be in an awkward stage. (1593 views)
Tasted by VinoMomNola on 8/17/2021 & rated 90 points: NV stills should never be underestimated. This was a juice fest, fresh, and flavorful. Aromas of red cherry, red plum, blackberry and flint. Medium- acidity, medium alcohol, medium body, and medium tannin. Great value as well. (679 views)
Tasted by Saxman1984 on 7/12/2021: Excellent bargain at $20 per bottle, I noticed that there is a wide spread in the price of this wine to over $30 per bottle in the Chicago marketplace. Regardless of the price, the wine is a great everyday wine. The wine has a floral nose with a hint of earth. The palate is silky and reminiscent of cherry cough drops in a good way. The wine is on the lighter side and does not have the heft of a Brunello. Of course, it is not a Brunello, so enjoy it for what it is, an opportunity to drink a wine from a top producer at a reasonable price. (1221 views)
Tasted by jmull on 7/9/2021 & rated 91 points: Uniquely elegant for sangiovese at this price point. What it lacks in heft it gains with precision and approachability. (874 views)
Tasted by JJKinch on 6/23/2021 & rated 90 points: Red fruit (strong cherry), nice spice, earth, slight tobacco, good acidity. Really enjoyable. (842 views)
Tasted by RichardP on 5/2/2021 & rated 91 points: Plum, raspberry, and a little earth on the nose. On the palate, dark cherry and plum with notes of savory herbs and earth, with moderate tannins and good acidity on the medium to long finish. Although this doesn't reach the level of a Brunello, in comparison with other Sangiovese-based wines it's a bargain at about $25. The Cellartracker drinking window looks at least a few years too short. (1210 views)
Tasted by Buff Tannen, USXFel Presidente on 3/29/2021: The 8/19
Immediately rich and smooth; a bit of raspberry, rose, and roasted tomato. The entryist Pinot successfully reeducates the false consciousness sangiovese. Quaker oatmeal squares nose didn't make it to day 2
Enhanced acidity erodes the the richness the following day; not Better, just different
So far, a January 30th, 2021 Vietti Barolo Castiglione 2012 note pretty much sums up how I feel about this wine, though my # might be lower, as nuanced insanity is more my brand than prestige (1400 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 3/6/2021: So, purchased this from an ad saying it was the much vaunted 13/15. I suspect otherwise. First, this says L8/19, which strikes me as wrong. Second, this feels too thin to me to be the 13/15, which is supposed to contain a great deal of declassified Brunello. Another odd thing, though not a problem, is that the front label lists alcohol of 14.5% while the back label says 13%. I suspect the lower number is closer but in any case that is a wide disparity. Overall the wine is decent enough, but even at a discounted price of about $23 all in, I can think of many better recent values in Tuscan Sangiovese. I'll keep an open mind and hopefully my next bottle will be better. (1369 views)
Tasted by joshabramson on 3/4/2021 & rated 91 points: Ripe, soft and round. Easy drinking, great bottle of wine for $25. (1288 views)
Tasted by thesternowl on 2/10/2021 & rated 89 points: On the nose, this is an absolute kirsch bomb with some hints of licorice and spice. The palate gets covered with rich, dark cherry liqueur and Mediterranean spices. Medium-lowish tannin and medium acidity. It’s a bit simple but it’s an N.V. Vino da Tavola so let’s not get too carried away. This is more than satisfying and a great Tuesday night food wine. Undeniably good for the money. I mean, Cerbaiona? For $25? Crazy. (1541 views)
Tasted by Cutthroat Trout on 12/18/2020 & rated 92 points: I opened a bottle of this wine about a year ago and felt that it was either too young or maybe just a wine I did not care for. It was dry with little fruit evident and a dusty tannic finish. I dumped it into the braising liquor and had a delicious Coq au Vin.

Still have 11 bottles left so I popped one open tonight. What a difference a year made!!

Nice fruit aroma along with an interesting earthy herbal note. Classic Sangiovese cherry flavor followed by leather and an earthy dusty length.
After 2 hours the wine has continued to open up with more dark cherry fruit on the palate. Paired well with rosemary grilled chicken.

Very enjoyable wine for a great price. (1266 views)
Tasted by mattstolz11 on 10/25/2020 & rated 91 points: so good. (1297 views)
Tasted by maxmanx on 10/17/2020: This was an extraordinary value! Wish I could find more. (1112 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
