Tasted by lvjohn on 1/1/2024 & rated 94 points: Drank over several days with similar impressions of a well crafted wine with surprising qualities. It has a low intensity quality for a Zinfandel that I found very classy. It has typical Carllsle qualities of outstanding purity, excellent mouthfeel, and persistence. It probably wow anyone because it is not a fruit bomb, but a really well crafted and excellent wine. (668 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 12/14/2023 & rated 88 points: Not really doing it for me tonight. The alcohol stands out and there’s a green herbal note that I don’t love and don’t really associate with Zinfandel. Almost came off as Grenache-y. Just not my style, I guess, as plenty of other reviewers have seemed to have more positive impressions. (577 views)
Tasted by 2loyal on 10/16/2023 & rated 92 points: Drinking beautifully now. No need to wait, and you haven’t missed anything! Slightly improved from previous bottle. (798 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 5/29/2023 & rated 89 points: Liked this best on pop & pour. After about two hours, the 15.5% alcohol became more noticeable and the wine seemed noticeably less balanced. (915 views)
Tasted by BHRH on 4/7/2023 & rated 92 points: A fun tasting experiment: tasted the 2017 Carlisle Dupratt against the 2017 Turley Dupratt. PnP, slow ox 30 minutes in glass.
Turley was a good shade darker in color.
On the nose, the Carlisle featured classic bramble, cranberry and spicy oak. The Turley eventually, after one hour, revealed plums, herbs and briar.
On the palate, the Carlisle was medium-to-full-bodied yet fairly elegant with lots of black cherry, raspberry and red currant flavors. Elegant, complex, spicy, well-balanced finish with plenty of electricity, freshness and silky tannins to forecast further ageability. 92+
The Turley was more monolithic and full-bodied. Lots of ripe, spicy, smoky plums with more structure. Bigger tannins on the long, sweet, tangy finish. A one hour decant might be in order to maximize breathing and optimize olfactory pleasure. 90-91
A real interesting contrast in winemaking styles! (922 views)
Tasted by hoservin on 11/4/2022 & rated 93 points: Popped and poured. Aromatic nose of ripe black cherry, blackberry, orange peel, spice, black licorice and bramble. Red and black fruit, black licorice, orange peel, bramble and spice on the palate. Long finish. Medium to full bodied. Served with macaroni, cheese and broccoli. (1063 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 10/23/2022 & rated 91 points: Dark fruit with blueberry and slight spice (1252 views)
Tasted by Geoff on 1/21/2022 & rated 91 points: Beautiful fruit, structure, balanced acidity. Medium to full bodied. a little too much alcohol for me and a green note on the finish. (1686 views)
Tasted by wilypod on 11/15/2021 & rated 94 points: So delicious and drinkable. My favorite Carlisle Dupratt of vintages 2012 to 2017, so well balanced, less dark and deep and herbal than usual. Grenache like transparent beauty -- but with an outstanding Zinfandel expression of intense tart cranberry and raspberry. Linear and light on its feet with fresh acidity. Decent tannin points to some age-ability, but terrific now. (1579 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 10/22/2021 & rated 92 points: Decanted for 1.5 hours. Aromas of lavender, blueberry, black pepper, cherry and huckleberry. Flavors of blueberry, cherry, raspberry, white pepper and bit of earth. Ends with a 25+ second finish with blueberry and earth notes. (1537 views)
Tasted by hoservin on 10/8/2021 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured. Nose of black raspberry, black cherry, licorice and Zinfandel spice. Black and red fruit, licorice, spice and fine tannins on the palate. Very long finish. Full bodied. Served with grilled pork chops and a cherry sauce. (1277 views)
Tasted by Adam T 12 on 7/24/2021 & rated 94 points: Silky smooth, tons of fruit. Ready to go in my opinion. My last of 3. I don’t see it benefitting greatly from more time, could try 1-2 years though. (1363 views)
Tasted by Slaz on 7/4/2021 & rated 91 points: Lovely and still young, but a bit overextracted. (1331 views)
Tasted by cobalt2 on 5/16/2021 & rated 93 points: No bias here, this is just another one of their outstanding issues. Crisp, full bodied, great finish and value. Should be a 94 . (1326 views)
Tasted by Tsliwinski on 3/28/2021 & rated 94 points: Beautiful full-throttle zin. Pepper and rich red fruit are nicely balanced. (1392 views)
Tasted by Tsliwinski on 3/23/2021 & rated 93 points: Rich zin, plenty of rich red fruit, powerful nose, nice floral mid palate and silky finish. (1379 views)
Tasted by tomlee on 3/14/2021 & rated 92 points: Crimson in color. 15.5% ABV. Gorgeous nose of red fruits, citrus and peach. Full bodied with ample acidity. Exceptional balance with an abundance of bright fruits. Cranberry, salmonberry, cherry and pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Delicious Zinfandel. The best DuPratt to date. Drink over the next 1-2 years. (1357 views)
Tasted by Tsliwinski on 2/23/2021 & rated 93 points: Wonderful rich bright red fruit, minimal floral and pepper and smooth finish. Drinking well right now. (1330 views)
Tasted by burgbob on 1/28/2021 & rated 93 points: Intense and multidimensional zin. What a great bottle and great vineyard. (1442 views)
Tasted by jgreco on 11/15/2020 & rated 88 points: The 2017 Carlisle Dupratt Vineyard is another 2017 Zinfandel that is fine. Not good, not bad, but just fine. Lots of red and blue fruit, mint, and some synthetic compounds. Enjoyable on the first sip, but lacking depth on the palate. (1509 views)
Tasted by air guitar & pinot noir on 10/14/2020 & rated 91 points: Extremely enjoyable and flavorful offering from Carlisle. A bit lighter in weight and body than I anticipated but still very enjoyable. Blackberries and some blue fruit and a slight incense note on the nose. Fairly straightforward and based on other’s notes it makes me curious to explore other offerings. I don’t drink a lot of Zin but excited to explore further. (1430 views)
Tasted by Old Gray Hare on 7/24/2020 & rated 92 points: More soft and floral than bold and brambly, but with considerable spice and red fruit flavor and even a hint of hazelnut . Hides its 15.5% ETOH in a smooth long finish. I'm not sure that this is a failure of the ripe flavorful Carlisle style as much as it is evedence of their allowing the expression of Mendocino fruit. Worth having in the cellar (and enjoying) because it is a little different (1596 views)
Tasted by DougSamuel on 7/15/2020 & rated 88 points: Dark garnet color and wine was lighter in body and style. Wine was tight and thin, but had a creamy flavor that was quite nice. A decent nose of light cherry and an interesting peach yogurt piece. tannins were firm. Overall, this was in the Carlisle style, but didn't hit the mark as it lacked the bright fruit I come to expect. Maybe a bad bottle or just an off vintage, but this was not worth the price of admission. (1705 views)
Tasted by Neras on 6/19/2020 & rated 94 points: Great right out of the bottle. Red, fresh berries, eatheral with solid balance. Great now! (1503 views)
Tasted by Adam T 12 on 3/19/2020 & rated 93 points: Was worried that I opened this too early but no, it’s in balance now. I’m sure it will be even better in a year, but can be enjoyed now also. Everything I like about Carlisle in a bottle... big juicy fruit, long finish, enticing nose. (1756 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

North Coast

The North Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California, covering more than three million acres, includes Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties, and portions of Marin and Solano counties. (see The Wine Institute for more information)
