Tasted by WVWine on 12/31/2023 & rated 98 points: Wow. Amazing magnum of wine with to go with our linguini and clams. (667 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 12/2/2023 & rated 97 points: At home with Valerie and Suzy, went off script and finished the evening with this one. Chilled, splash decanted, drank over an hour and some the following day...first tasting from Aubert 17 vintages in my cellar.

Deep brassy gold color, slightly cloudy. Nose showing lime zest, citrus, mineral (someone picked up hay?). Plate of candied lemon, apricot, baked apple, almonds. Rich through the mid palate, citrus persists with notes of parrfin and mineral. Full body, long finish (60+ seconds)

Gorgeous wine, nicely aged at this point. Depth of the flavors and and length of the wine are noteable - even by Aubert standards...:) Should drink at this level for a while but VERY worth it to open one now. (664 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 7/17/2023: My wine. Last wine of the night and best at a blind chardonnay tasting. Showing richer with more pineapple than a bottle a year or so ago, but on a night of many good wines it nonetheless proved why Aubert is so lauded. (1025 views)
Tasted by Bryan49 on 4/9/2023 & rated 92 points: Decanted for 3 hours. Clear yellow gold. Yellow fruit on nose. Palate of pear, apple. Medium plus body with bracing acidity. Not my favorite Aubert, so I saved some to retaste…BUT my wife (who doesn’t like white wine) drank the rest (when I was out on a boys night) and said it was great :( (1120 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 4/5/2023 & rated 93 points: Wine gathering at RJ's; 4/4/2023-4/7/2023 (South Carolina): Expressive nose displaying ripe succulent yellow fruit, lemon curd, yellow peach, pineapple, a hint of vanilla/oak, honey, crème brulee, sesame and limestone. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of ripe yellow fruit, rich and round, bright acidity, strong mineral, and a long succulent yellow fruit driven finish with crème brulee at the end. This is a ripe style of Aubert, similar to the earlier vintages. (2050 views)
Tasted by jshufelt on 2/14/2023 & rated 93 points: Decanted one hour before service. In the glass, clear, medium yellow-gold. On the nose, lemon and honeysuckle, with a faint hint of smoke. On the palate, initially creamy with citrus and green apple - slowly but surely, however, acidity and oak take over, leading to a somewhat bracing finish. I think this is likely to settle down and improve with a few more years in bottle, but be ready for a structured, acidic and assertive finish if you open one now. (983 views)
Tasted by MaineMark on 9/24/2022 & rated 98 points: I don't know what a perfect wine tastes like, but it is hard to imagine a chardonnay tasting a whole lot better than this. I am not great with descriptors, but more than anything, what struck me was there was just nothing wrong with this at all. Nothing that made you say, "this is really good, but..." Beautiful not not overpowering nose, butterscotch and fruits, a wonderful mouthfeel and a long finish. This is drinking great now, but in the interest or science we will hold our remaining bottle for the 10 year mark. Can this get any better? (1494 views)
Tasted by Schiffy on 5/6/2022 & rated 95 points: Another Aubert gem...rich butterscotch, tropical fruit notes and lemon zest make this Hudson Chardonnay unbelievably delicious to drink. Lots of secondary flavors of pineapple, almond and fuji apples on the finish. Delicious! (1507 views)
Tasted by bigredPA on 10/16/2021 & rated 94 points: Stunning aroma on this, and piercing white fruit and minerals on the palate make this wine something to muse over. There’s so much going on with the almost tactile nature of this wine. Beautiful expression of Chardonnay. (1971 views)
Tasted by Dalex on 5/10/2021 & rated 92 points: Much more lean then other aubert chards I’ve had. Still this is quite striking blowout bright piercing fruit. Of course lots of oak, as that’s the style, but considering this isn’t as rich as other aubert chards I would have pulled back the oak treatment a bit. Regardless, a pretty classy wine.

Oddly the other people’s notes make me feel as if I drank a different wine, but I didn’t. (2519 views)
Tasted by yaCellar on 1/2/2021 & rated 94 points: Ready to go with a quick decant (2492 views)
Tasted by gatormikenews on 12/24/2020 & rated 95 points: Wow. Best Chardonnay I’ve ever had. So complex. Apple. Pear. Butterscotch. Mineral. Rich golden color. Aroma filled up the whole room. Double decanted after storing in the wine fridge for about a year. Can’t wait to try the 2018 in about a year. (1872 views)
Tasted by Snag One on 8/7/2020 & rated 95 points: Wonderful mouthfeel with layers of lemon curd, key lime pie, green apples, honeydew melon and pears. A long and rewarding finish. One of my favorite single vineyard wines from Aubert. (2693 views)
Tasted by Shay.Aldriedge on 8/6/2020 & rated 95 points: As with every other Aubert Hudson tasting note I’ve written, this only solidifies my thought that Aubert’s Hudson chard is best enjoyed closer to release compared to their other single vineyard designates. It is consistently delicious only a year or two after release with so much texture on the palate. It is loaded with yellow fruit, powdered sugar lemon bar, a “juicy fruit” note I commonly associate with Peter Michael chards, and a mix of herbs and savory salinity. It has a finish of baked Anjou pear and marzipan. Classic Hudson feel to it. Great mouthfeel thanks to rich viscosity and enough acidity to keep it entertaining. (2203 views)
Tasted by GKtannin on 6/20/2020 & rated 99 points: Enjoyed this on a beautiful summer night. With salmon and roasted potatoes.

Aroma: ripe pineapple, white peach, Asian pear, dried mango, yellow kiwi, browned butter, and slate

Taste: canned pineapple, buttered popcorn, lemon meringue, kiwi, papaya, and salt

Finish: insanely smooth, long, and assertive- powerful

I can honestly say there isn't a way to construct this wine better. The balance of flavors, the evolution in the glass over the hour we enjoyed this, and the stately finish doesn't get better. While appreciating that this SV Aubert often doesn't receive the same recognition as Lauren, UV-SL, etc, this is the real deal. In the top five bottles of chardonnay I have ever drank! (2066 views)
Tasted by tc from santee on 5/17/2020 & rated 94 points: What a huge dose of Myers lemon cream cake. Such well made Chardonnay. It burst on my pallet and finishes long. (1932 views)
Tasted by Snag One on 5/10/2020 & rated 93 points: Decanted for an hour. Nose consists of Meyers lemons, lemon grass. pears and green apples. Nice flavors of green apples, butterscotch, lemon curd, pears and hibiscus. (1833 views)
Tasted by tak4 on 3/20/2020 & rated 93 points: Consumed as part of my Covid-19 induced wine uptick.

Popped and double decanted, as per recommendations.

Lovely bright lemon color.

Amazingly aromatic and complex nose. Citrus, passionfruit, that "sea-smoke" mix of salinity and oak, , and a spice note.

On palate, super-concentrated. But clean finish. High alcohol, high acidity, very long finish.

What a fantastic wine. Drinking up before the bugs get me. (1861 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 1/4/2020 & rated 93 points: I'm holding one of these, and this one gets me excited about potentially opening it within the next four to six months. Hudson fruit is really amazing, and nobody does it better than Lee Hudson and Mark Aubert. This is a very powerful version with acidity on one side and a softer more viscous nature on the other side. Herbal on one side, yet rounded yellow fruit on the other. Really wanted to give this one a 94 but to me it stops ever so short of that number. Rather impressed with this. I continue to believe that these Hudsons from Aubert drink quite a bit better in their youth, with this being no exception! Drink up! (2571 views)
Tasted by msuwine on 12/18/2019 & rated 95 points: This rich and viscous Chardonnay needed a good hour or two of air in order to show its complexity and depth. This seemed more raw than a 2017 Eastside I had a few months ago, but it eventually got to the place that the best Aubert wines do: powerful, complex, balanced, and delicious.

Light yellow in color and full in body, the wine welcomes you in with aromas of lemon meringue, brioche, vanilla bean, and butterscotch. The tastes start out linear, but unfold with air to offer notes of grapefruit, cantaloupe, salt water, almond, and quince, with a finish that goes on and on. 15.2% alcohol. This probably needs another 6-12 months, but I've been experimenting with opening the Aubert 2017s early - and I haven't been remotely disappointed. (3865 views)
Tasted by Rupesh on 11/29/2019 & rated 93 points: Beautiful wine. Honeysuckle and pear on the nose. Complex, multilayer flavor profile (2377 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

Napa / Sonoma

SONOMA: The Yorkville Highlands AVA, approved in 1998, is located in the southwestern corner of Mendocino County, between Sonoma County's Alexander Valley to the South and Mendocino County!s Anderson Valley to the North. The region is 25 miles long, roughly in the shape of rectangle and bisected by Highway 128 which runs the length of the AVA. The region!s terrain is hilly and forested, with elevations ranging from 1,078 to 2,442 feet above sea level.
The distinguishing features of the Yorkville Highlands AVA are rocky soils with a high gravel content and the climate, which is cooler than Alexander Valley but warmer than Anderson Valley, and significantly cooler at night than the surrounding areas.
