Community Tasting Notes (average 89.9 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 29 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by BoxerBee on 4/6/2024 & rated 90 points: Strawberry, cherry yoghurt, rhubarb, and orange complemented by bay leaf and tar in a way not unlike Barolo. Firm tannins, moderate acidity. Long, dry finish. Drink 2028 - 2032. 90+ points. (171 views)
Tasted by JWM03 on 11/4/2023: 1.5 hour decant. Definitely needed it. Sour cherry, menthol, oak, and forest floor. Still quite vibrant, but just didn’t feel all together. I guess it could do with some more age, but that seems a bit excessive for a CCR. Not sure would buy again. (471 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 11/2/2023 & rated 90 points: My last in this format.
Excellent CC Riserva with brulé dark cherry core, mellowing tannins, some earth and dry spice nuances. Decent acidity provides balance. Drinks very well now with an aerated decant of an hour or so - but in my opinion has at least another five years in it. I have kept back my three magnums till 2026 and would hope they will give pleasure for at least 20yrs from vintage.
In magnum format 2026-36, bottle: now-2028. 90+
(Incidentally I first came across this wine in 1981 in Florence - the vintage was 1961 and from memory was excellent - so there is no doubt in my mind of its aging potential!) (393 views)
Tasted by Barsacpinci on 6/15/2023: Perfect Spaghetti and Meatball wine. Went very well with food. (738 views)
Tasted by Nairb Øjram on 1/12/2023 & rated 93 points: Farven meget flot homogen, mellemrød, gennemsigtig, meget klar og skinnende. Granat.
Tasted by vancouvermatt on 8/11/2022 & rated 91 points: Touch rustic and old school, best with food. (1398 views)
Tasted by afields on 5/30/2022: Good quality Chianti that’s what a Riserva should be, fairly serious without being big or brooding or overdone. Darker (currant) fruit, leather, licorice, dried basil, elegant but not too glossy, M tannins, M+ body, M to M+ acid. Noticeably better with a. Hour of air so a good idea to decant for now, should drink well for 6-8 more years at least. (1182 views)
Tasted by Bluespolo on 4/30/2022 & rated 89 points: Piuttosto convenzionale, Chianti classico riserva tradizionale: naso decisamente Sangiovese: viola, ciliegia, prugna, cuoio, spezie. Al palato tannino amaricante ben presente che beneficerà sicuramente di un po’ di bottiglia. Finale discreto. Buona espressione, senza strappare applausi. (1257 views)
Tasted by OnWisconsin on 4/7/2022 & rated 94 points: Dried cherries with earth/tilled soil.

Medium acid and medium plus tannin. This has the structure to age for 10/20+ years.

The magic of this wine lays in how it somehow manages to show age and feel lifted at the same time. In a really good place now, but in 20 years will still be alive. (1213 views)
Tasted by JSolo on 3/19/2022 & rated 89 points: Not as good as I was expecting; however, it is good Chianti. (801 views)
Tasted by PIntag on 11/26/2021 & rated 89 points: Clean and linear CCR. Good purity of fruit, not much overt oak. Very good, but seemed to lack a little energy. Solid wine, but there are others that are better wines and a much better value - e.g. 2016 Monsanto CCR at ~ $10 less per bottle. This will benefit with more age -- we'll see if this evolves into something more profound. (1107 views)

Tasted by Kiranonwine on 8/22/2021: Dark cherries, ripe raspberries, cut thyme with a touch of smoke. Nose a bit muted overall. Less fruit and more sour savoury notes on palate at first then some sweeter fruit but still a persistent herb laden finish. Grainy tannin high acidity and medium body great balance and length. A really well made wine needs a long decant or a few more years. (1274 views)
Tasted by BURG-ARESCO on 8/15/2021: I think it needs more time. (1052 views)
Tasted by Finando on 7/12/2021 & rated 91 points: The dried flowers stood out along with notes of plum. Enjoyed thoroughly. (1194 views)
Tasted by Nutty08 on 6/19/2021 & rated 88 points: Rather rustic profile without expected depth for the price. Did fine with food. (1214 views)
Tasted by WEB,III on 6/8/2021 & rated 89 points: Classic in style. Finish a bit muted. (955 views)
Tasted by despore on 1/29/2021 & rated 89 points: Bright, easy drinking, classic Chianti. (982 views)
Tasted by LMArcher on 11/13/2020: Clear garnet robe.
Cassis, leather, cherry, hibiscus nose.
Light body, Acid plus,
Red fruit, balack currant, cassi on attack, Tannins+, sous bous, annis.
Finish- subtle fadeout. (899 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 1/4/2020 & rated 89 points: Samples from Italy & France: Bright ruby color. Pretty aromatics of raspberries, red cherries and red currants, along with menthol, smoky mesquite, tobacco, and spicy dry rub. Smooth texture on the palate, moderate tannic grip, zippy acidity, this is nicely balanced. Shows crunchy, chilled red cherries and currants, with a nice dose of spiced black tea, rose hips, mint chewing tobacco, mulch and earth. Lovely freshness, fresh and bright but solid complexity. This could use two or three years to unwind. (1293 views)
Tasted by Weinberg Falls on 8/28/2019 & rated 89 points: Weinberg tours Chianti: Spiced floral nose. Good, balanced blend, lively acidity, rounded and rich red fruit flavours on the palette good ageing potential. (1165 views)

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
