Tasted by jasonh on 11/20/2012 & rated 91 points: The last time I had this was 5 years ago when it was a bouncing baby and showed as much. While I liked it a lot, I was unsure about the wines structure. Well 5 years later, this great bargain has really come into balance. And the tannins are more present with some of the other elements settling down. Great citrusy aromas. This wine is starting to become pretty. Should have saved more. (1279 views)

Tasted by markjahnke on 9/24/2010 & rated 90 points: Sometimes there is nothing more fun that seeing a friends wine in a wine shop on the opposite coast, and picking up a bottle of it to drink. This happened to be the case with this wine tonight, made by our good friend Dave Corey. This is one of Dave's Rhone styled blends, and a nice sipper to say the least. Unfortunately, the nose gave up very little when this was first popped and poured. I was actually a bit worried that I wasn't going to like this based on the muted nose, but as the glass warmed up, the aromatics started to rear their head. Nice cherry and raspberry were the starts here, with some blue fruit and white pepper. This had a nice Rhone styled nice for sure. On the palate, this was incredible at hour 2, and I am very glad that we took our time drinking this, giving it time to warm up, and open up in the glass. You can really taste the Grenache influence in this wine, and that is something that I won't complain about. More cherry, strawberry, and blueberry on the palate, with just enough acidity to give this a nice backbone. There is still a bit of alcohol here, but I think that will integrate nicely with another year or two in the bottle. Just a touch of tannin on the finish, which is medium in length. All in all, at around $20 this is a tasty wine, and a heck of a nice QPR. I'll look for more of these in the future for certain! 90 points. Cheers! (1875 views)

Tasted by hutch on 3/23/2008 & rated 87 points: Made more in the easy drinking style. Slight peppery notes. Medium bodied, with a medium, juicy finish. Mostly red fruits. A nice red, but there are a lot of red blends for $5 or more cheaper that do just as good a job. 87+ (1167 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 3/14/2008 & rated 89 points: a tasting of new releases: nose: nice spicy nose with dark cherry and some slight hints of blueberry

taste: very smooth with dark spices, dark cherry, and a bit of black currant

overall: very nice feel and flavor profile. Good weight to this with a nice long finish (2378 views)
 Tasted by jasonh on 11/9/2007 & rated 88 points: From a 375
Where the 2004 163 was jumping out of the glass, the 05 Red just sat there. It took a good swirl for it to reveal its dark brambly fruits. I had poured both wines into decanters but after a small glass of this, I let it sit a little longer. At first the wine really lacked balance. The tart acids and herbs hit you right at the front. Over the course of the evening, the wine evened out. Cannot place the flavors but there were certainly some herb elements along with a touch of mint. The fruit was all jumbled up in the middle. A big wine. Will not open my next bottle for 2 years. Didn’t notice much tannic structure but there was certainly plenty of acid to hold it together. I look forward to re-visiting down the road to see if I move this up a few points. 88 pts (1687 views)

Tasted by EMichels on 8/5/2007 & rated 90 points: Wally's Central Coast Tasting: Great nose; Full round palate; Good stuff (2662 views)
Tasted by gregg g on 7/17/2007: Showing a darker fruit profile than the '04 163 Red Blend, with less sweetness as well. As others have noted a good acidty presence which is a trademark of the Corey wine philosophy. Drunk from .375ml. (1967 views)
Tasted by PatLee on 5/13/2007: Strawberry, blackberry, and meat on the palate. Good acidity and tannin on the finish, which cut the fat of the tri-tip well. A nice complement to tri-tip and green beans we made for dinner. Dave continues to make great wines, especially considering how affordable they are. (2260 views)
Tasted by AlexRed on 4/4/2007 & rated 88 points: Nice bottle of wine. (2009 views)
Tasted by bsherwin on 3/11/2007: Pretty young, but very high on the yummy scale. I'm going to drink through my 163's first, but this is a nice bright wine now. (1992 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
