Tasted by Zurletti on 2/1/2024 & rated 91 points: Vino molto buono con molto sentori secondari e terziari, legno, fiori e molto altro (1867 views)
Tasted by tward on 10/26/2023 & rated 92 points: This is a fantastic Pinot Noir!
Wait, you tell me it's Nebbiolo? Whether you like or loath the term Burgundian, I find it's an apt descriptor sometimes. But here I really would have called this actual Pinot Noir from Burgundy. And it kept like that from PnP (where this was surprisingly ready to drink, not too tight). Some cherry, and cool fruits and even a hint of mint.

It's going to be interesting to see where this goes. I've got two more. Next one in 2028?

13.5% abv (2087 views)
Tasted by WEB,III on 7/12/2023 & rated 89 points: More alcoholic(no way wine is 13.5%) and grittier tannins than last bottle. Hearty wine, but less refined than previous bottle. (2269 views)
Tasted by GArpaia on 6/28/2023: Medium garnet. Pronounced. Bloody and ferrous. Dry flowers. Dry cherry, fig, prune. Tomato compote and tar. Cigar, leather. Oak well integrated and in the background. Complex. Med+ acidity. High, fine tannins. 13,5% slightly out of balance. FB. Long finish with fresh tobacco aftertaste. (2258 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 4/14/2023: Tasted over 3 hrs
-semi-translucent med red mild bricking
-delicate and pretty perfumed sweet dried red fruit with some gentle floral and spice elements
-med/med+ acidity sneaks in the back end, med/med- weight tar tobacco floral dried red fruit builds in intensity to the finish adorned with chalky med tannins
-flavor profile not really in my wheelhouse but it is nonetheless complex elegant and interesting (2573 views)
Tasted by rjfix on 1/29/2023 & rated 92 points: Wonderful boquet, hint floral with cherry (2475 views)
Tasted by stet on 4/10/2022 & rated 92 points: Color: light garnet
Nose: floral with roses and violets, and maybe dandelion. Strawberry coulis. Anise and rhubarb, beautiful blood orange peel
Palate: high acidity, medium tannin. Good balance at this young age. Shows some sour cherry along with what is hinted to by the nose. Has a powerful umami and a medium body
Finish: long

Very high quality wine, which in my estimation needs another 2-5 years to really show its cards even though it drinks exceptionally well now, in a deceiving way. Just lovely line of umami here, i recommend 1 hour of air and room temp (3001 views)
Tasted by zscheiner on 3/18/2022: So good. Drank well after an brief decant. See AAgrawal’s recent note, he says it much better than I could. (2623 views)
 Tasted by 560 B&W on 1/3/2022 & rated 93 points: Decanted but barely ready. 13.5% (3113 views)
Tasted by foyfrcs on 12/27/2021 & rated 90 points: Pale ruby.
Strawberries, red cherries, lavender nose.
Medium body & tannins.
Red fruits, dried blackberries, slightly vegetal palate.
Christmas present, wondering if I should have cellared it for a few years given CT drinking window!
Very good wine. (2686 views)
Tasted by Es7e2003 on 12/24/2021 & rated 92 points: Pale ruby with orange hues. Sweet cherry, halls, menthol and licorice. Medium plus acidity and such finely grained tannins. One of the most interesting palate profiles in any wine I’ve ever had. (2305 views)
Tasted by SoundinBetween on 10/26/2021: Terroir Tuesday at TDS, A Reunion (Table Donkey & Stick, Logan Square, Chicago): Last bottle of the night opened very late and decanted, no extensive notes. Beautiful ethereal expression, light weight yet with great structure, mineral character, a welcome change of pace from all the French wines tonight. (2276 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 1/26/2021 & rated 94 points: Pale ruby, relatively youthful color for Nebbiolo; aromatic, wild strawberry, alpine red fruits, floral, exceptionally elegant; palate is light bodied, high acid, tannins exceptionally approachable and medium at most, medium alcohol (13.5%) and seems low for Nebbiolo, exceptional depth of wild red fruits, slightly herbal; finish is medium-plus length. Really exceptional, and much better than the '13 version of this wine that I tried 2-3 years ago. 93+
4 hours later: Just as expressive and enjoyable. An impeccably elegant wine, but with the depth and concentration to drink at a very high level. 94+
Day 2: Largely unchanged, but also wanted to note that if I tasted this blind, I would have guessed 1er cru Burgundy. Seamless tannins and quality and complexity of fruit lead me to that guess. (3452 views)
Tasted by thesternowl on 12/23/2020 & rated 93 points: This wine is striking the moment it’s poured. The color surprises with its “pinkness”; the lightest ruby color I have ever seen in Nebbiolo! The nose is spectacular. Roses and mixed with raspberries and alpine herbs and wild flowers. Basically every vision of what I would imagine the flora in Carema to be is represented on the bouquet. I want to smell this all the time! On the palate, this is very primary with crunchy red raspberries and cherries, herbs, and minerals. The structure is firm but deftly hidden at such a young age. A wine of balance. I have a feeling this will grow to be an absolute classic. I went deep on these 2016’s and look forward to checking in on them for years and decades to come. (2897 views)
Tasted by AlphaMikeFoxtrot on 10/27/2020 & rated 94 points: A very singular wine. Light ruby color with a garnet rim. Great intensity of aromas; the nose is bursting with licorice and fresh mountain herbs. The herbs almost remind me of some brands of Amaro, such as Elisir Novasalus. On the palate it's consistent with the aromas but adds violet petals, cherry, red plum, black pepper and dirt notes. Body is medium, acidity is beautiful; and the tannins are shockingly soft for Nebbiolo. The tension between the acid and fruit is palpable on this wine, and the finish lasts a minute. An elegant, nervy Nebbiolo that must be from a very unique place. This wine is young but has an incredible structure. It will certainly go places. I would love to check in on it multiple times over the next 3-10 years. (2982 views)
Tasted by viniferatu on 9/22/2020: Very Nebbiolo, but distinctly different from most Barolo and Barbaresco, more elegant and finessed. Cranberry, strawberry, blue plum. A little smoky, like smoldering iron or scorched earth, this element is subtle though. Wild herbs, honey and flowers are lifted and very engaging. Ripping acidity. Next to the acids, the tannins almost come across as soft, as they are very fine, and contribute to a gorgeous satin textured midpalate. Long zippy finish is lots of fun if you like tart fruit. Needs a few more years to open up, but the balance is there. Already complex, it should become something really wild and interesting. Was nice on day one, got better on day two. Note is from day two. Will be worth following for 10, maybe 20, more years. (2998 views)

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.

Northern Piedmont

Regional History:
The wines of Piemonte are noted as far back as Pliny's Natural History. Due to geographic and political isolation, Piemonte was without a natural port for most of its history, which made exportation treacherous and expensive. This left the Piemontese with little incentive to expand production. Sixteenth-century records show a mere 14% of the Bassa Langa under vine - most of that low-lying and farmed polyculturally. In the nineteenth century the Marchesa Falletti, a French woman by birth, brought eonologist Louis Oudart from Champagne to create the first dry wines in Piemonte. Along with work in experimental vineyards at Castello Grinzane conducted by Camilo Cavour - later Conte di Cavour, leader of the Risorgimento and first Prime Minister of Italy - this was the birth of modern wine in the Piedmont. Outside of the Langhe, the most prominent area of wine production in Piemonte is the chain of sub-alpine hills that run through the provinces of Novara and Vercelli. Here the Romans introduced spionia, an ancient variety that thrived in foggy climates. Whether this was in fact a genetic ancestor of Nebbiolo is unknown, but the derivation of its name, Spanna, is now how the locals refer to this noble grape. The Morainic soils, mostly deposited along the Sesia River, are of glacial origin and produce more medium-bodied, aromatically driven nebbiolo than in the Langhe. The appellations of note in Novara are Gattinara, Lessona and Bramaterra, and in Vercelli are Ghemme, Fara, Boca, and Szizzano.
