Tasted by TheClemence on 7/8/2023 & rated 91 points: Al naso media consistenza di profumi di frutti a bacca rossa, ciliegia sotto spirito e spezie. Al palato media struttura e corpo, mordido ed elegante. Ben equilibrato, giusta acidità, secco con tannini levigati e di ottima finezza. Sentori di legno ben amalgamati. Buona persistenza. Ottimo. (894 views)
Tasted by lightning on 12/25/2022 & rated 88 points: Pale garnet with a faint brick hue. A ruddy sour cherry nose with a hint of dried herb. Light to medium bodied with a sleek flow, sour cherry predominates on the midpalate, only the faintest wisp of tannins, sprightly acid spine and reasonable length. It's a wine good for drinking now and over the short term. (1513 views)
Tasted by davidrmoran on 12/8/2022 & rated 89 points: maybe 88

Blunt, fizzy, so I fridged it for several months and then revisited, and while it was improved, it was still tending to the blunt and fizzy, nothing like what I hoped or would expect as to complexity or nuance or finish.
If I had paid $80 or whatever at a restaurant I would've been bummed. (1454 views)
Tasted by Deaddeadwine on 8/14/2022: Recollection from 2 nights ago:. light, lean, lovely. Clearly Nebbiolo,, but very much on the savory side.
Paired with grilled salmon and a light poblano crema. Good match. (1044 views)
Tasted by ShakinSwedens on 7/27/2022: Drank on a flower day and the nose was indeed superb, as was the beautiful translucent scarlet hue in the glass. But that Smokey bacon note is in there again- can’t help thinking it’s smoke taint. Not to my liking at all, and sadly spoiled an otherwise impeccable bottle. (1387 views)
Tasted by AB16 on 5/7/2022 & rated 91 points: I love this wine. Great food beverage. Pairs particularly well with Tartar. Elegant nose, ample fruit with fantastic acid throughout. I’m a fan. I’d pay much more than I did for wine like this (1169 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 4/6/2022: Lighter-bodied than the Grimaldi I just drank, and to my palate, this speaks more clearly of Nebbiolo. Sweet & sour cherry on the nose, with good acidity. Very nice. (952 views)
Tasted by davidrmoran on 4/4/2022 & rated 87 points: imagine a reputable cola which is without any sweetness and is slightly flat (854 views)
Tasted by NickA on 3/31/2022 & rated 91 points: Alto Piemonte (Terra Rossa): Has come on nicely since I last tried it a couple of years ago. Obviously more traditional than the other two Caremas, with a less exuberant nose and more savoury feel. Tangy red fruit on the palate, which developed into a note of boiled strawberry sweets with a bit of time in the glass. Fantastic value and will probably get even better over the next 2-3 years. (1010 views)
Tasted by B & B on 3/11/2022 & rated 89 points: Depth improved by about 90 minutes after decant. Light red fruit, worked well with spaghetti with tomato/basil/pork sauce. More earthiness developed with air. Burt would rate higher. Did not survive well to next day. (744 views)
Tasted by ShakinSwedens on 2/25/2022: Only read one note below referencing the Smokey note- is this a fault, result of wildfires or too much toasting of the barrels? In any case it’s an odd note in a nebbiolo and I’m finding it hard to take pleasure in.
Apart from that mid-palate note this is a nice Nebb- just a perplexing aspect I haven’t wrapped my head round. (681 views)
Tasted by CADomer on 2/6/2022 & rated 92 points: Absolutely beautiful wine, bursting with bright cherries and red berries. So fresh and crystalline with layers of spice to add depth. Doesn't get much better than this at this price point. (720 views)
Tasted by James Kim on 12/28/2021 & rated 92 points: Decanted. Now 1.5h after decant. Aromas of lovely ripe red cherries, a bit of herbs and earth. Palate w intense red cherries, hints of herbs and earth. Mild-moderate tannins on midpalate. Excellent, juicy acids. Medium body. Nice elegant finish. The purity of fruit is just fantastic. Excellent balance. Delicious. Quaffable. Not the most complex wine. But the balance and elegance are so lovely. This is like Burgundy in the guise of nebbiolo. Really digging this. What a great QPR. 92 (830 views)
Tasted by chrisdgsmith@hotmail.co.uk on 10/25/2021 & rated 91 points: Entertaining so no proper notes.
As professional reviewers suggest, this is easily taken for Barolo. Ok, it doesn't have the intensity or complexity of the Cascins Adelaide Fossati I drank recently but it's a fraction of the price. Worked really well as s food wine, pairing beautifully with a smoked duck breast salad, the acidity and bright fruit being a perfect foil. Would certainly buy again. (906 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 8/11/2021: I had a bottle of the 2016 Riserva last week, and the normale is also drinking well. Lighter-bodied on the palate, decent acidity and good persistence on the palate. 2016 was a pretty good year, and with continued global warming in our future, I think the wines of Alto Piemonte are going to be even more in demand in the future than they are today. (1091 views)
Tasted by gzim on 4/20/2021 & rated 88 points: Beautiful transparent ruby. Young and a bit tight, but only opened to have a glass tonight with the hopes it will loosen up tomorrow. Nice florals - bright crunchy red berries with a crispness and a Smokey note. Nothing but upside here. Saving my Riservas (1184 views)
Tasted by gzim on 2/3/2021 & rated 89 points: Beautiful ruby transparency, a slightly muted nose with some bright fruit, following thru on the palate. There is a really nice tension to this wine, its cherry-ness shows thru but a touch of tightness and crispness in balance. its showing its youth - nothing by upside. (1207 views)
Tasted by melzar on 1/26/2021 & rated 90 points: Ditto previous notes. (1355 views)
Tasted by apple1813 on 1/15/2021 & rated 89 points: 2016 Cantina dei Produttori Nebbiolo di Carema Carema was fresh, juicy and well-balanced. The youthful Carema Nebbiolo was pale ruby in colour without any sediments. Given two hours of in-bottle aeration, there were expressive notes of fresh red cherry, raspberry, honeysuckle and blossom. The mouthfeel was dry and medium-bodied, with high level of fresh acidity and medium level of chalky tannin. Flavours of cranberry, roses and a hint of wet stones accompanied a medium juicy finish. (1360 views)
Tasted by 560 B&W on 1/8/2021 & rated 91 points: Consumed over two nights. Gained weight by night two. Lovely mid-body, mid+ acid. Excellent QPR. 13% (1082 views)
Tasted by rama on 1/2/2021: Orange/red in color, easy to mistake for bricking. Some dissolved CO2, so decant, Mollydooker Shake, or otherwise give it a long breathe time. A bit muted on the nose. Medium high acidity, medium low tannin, cherry vanilla cream on the body and finish. Enjoyable and well put together, though lacking a bit of depth at this stage. (686 views)
Tasted by melzar on 12/9/2020 & rated 90 points: A young Nebbiolo open for early drinking. Well balanced with the acidity somewhat dominant. Light bodied and light in color. Very welcome in this age of over extracted monsters. Good value. (821 views)
Tasted by rama on 11/21/2020: Red fruited, touch of black licorice, salinity. Medium acid, gentle tannin that took hours to emerge. Not a lot of complexity, just clean and quaffable. (600 views)
Tasted by ex-sommelier on 10/20/2020: Lovely light Nebbiolo with a pale rusty color. A muted nose at first, but opened nicely to pomegranate, raspberry, and some earth. Some spice and bitter orange came with air. Palate is delicate but with snappy acidity. Quite light on the mid-palate and a short finish, but at this price its an excellent and characterful food wine, as well as a nice contrast to Langhe Nebbiolo. (1130 views)
Tasted by Rgentile on 10/11/2020 & rated 88 points: Easy going Nebbiolo. Nice tension, light on its feet enjoy now or overt The next 1-3yrs. (949 views)

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.

Regional History:
The wines of Piemonte are noted as far back as Pliny's Natural History. Due to geographic and political isolation, Piemonte was without a natural port for most of its history, which made exportation treacherous and expensive. This left the Piemontese with little incentive to expand production. Sixteenth-century records show a mere 14% of the Bassa Langa under vine - most of that low-lying and farmed polyculturally. In the nineteenth century the Marchesa Falletti, a French woman by birth, brought eonologist Louis Oudart from Champagne to create the first dry wines in Piemonte. Along with work in experimental vineyards at Castello Grinzane conducted by Camilo Cavour - later Conte di Cavour, leader of the Risorgimento and first Prime Minister of Italy - this was the birth of modern wine in the Piedmont. Outside of the Langhe, the most prominent area of wine production in Piemonte is the chain of sub-alpine hills that run through the provinces of Novara and Vercelli. Here the Romans introduced spionia, an ancient variety that thrived in foggy climates. Whether this was in fact a genetic ancestor of Nebbiolo is unknown, but the derivation of its name, Spanna, is now how the locals refer to this noble grape. The Morainic soils, mostly deposited along the Sesia River, are of glacial origin and produce more medium-bodied, aromatically driven nebbiolo than in the Langhe. The appellations of note in Novara are Gattinara, Lessona and Bramaterra, and in Vercelli are Ghemme, Fara, Boca, and Szizzano.
