Tasted by Gnieboer on 3/10/2024 & rated 94 points: Decanted 3 hours drank over 2. Lovely balance, complex bouquet with blackberry fruit and an excellent finish with tannins nicely integrated with earth, olive finish. Full bodied but not overdone. (771 views)
Tasted by TallMikeWine on 12/19/2023 & rated 93 points: SO floral. Crushed me. Find it. Drink it. Those CT drinking window years are way off. Drink now through 2026ish. (1087 views)
Tasted by EvanJB on 11/3/2023: Excellent (1250 views)
Tasted by Sieegs on 10/21/2023 & rated 95 points: Open now or in a year or two. Just great. Wish I had more. (1219 views)
Tasted by Countless on 9/24/2023 & rated 94 points: So much pleasure from this wine, every time in a great place now (1499 views)
Tasted by YankeeRobio on 8/14/2023 & rated 97 points: Four hours decant and needed every minute of it. Such a classy expression of this varietal. (1726 views)
Tasted by mvande21 on 3/25/2023 & rated 95 points: Ten minute decant. Dark purple. Violet nose. Black fruits, dried herbs, earth and black pepper. A bit tight at first with grippy tannins. Full bodied, concentrated, mouth coating. Long finish. Second day, everything came together. Delicious. Should have pulled the cork on this in the morning first day. (1734 views)
Tasted by Countless on 8/6/2022 & rated 95 points: Fantastic (2129 views)
Tasted by JRockEsq on 6/4/2022 & rated 91 points: Method: slightly blind (knew it was 1 of 3 bottles); decanted for a few hours; Grassl 1855

Look: deep ruby

Nose: blueberry cobbler, spearmint, smoked paprika, violet, fain smoked meat; very expressive and complex nose

Palate: blackberry, blueberry, cedar; long finish of spearmint, wood smoke, leather, and violet; dry; full- body; medium plush and pretty silky tanning; high- acidity; low- heat

Overall thoughts: Nice concentration and body; great tannins. Great complexity and I love the spearmint note. The acidity is a bit too high and the very slight heat doesn't help. I'm interested in seeing where this goes with age, especially of the alcohol doesn't become too obvious. Great wine! (2019 views)
Tasted by mliszt on 2/22/2022 & rated 95 points: read all the other notes and see the drinking window, but since i bought a case decided to try one..............everyone is right. it was great the first night (no second night as drank it all) but for sure it would have been better if i decanted for a few hours or took the cork out, put it back in an hour later and drank the next night as advised. the point is how good it is not doing that and how much better it could be if i had done that (1785 views)
Tasted by RBurgundy99 on 2/20/2022 & rated 98 points: I like it when a wine lives up to the (considerable) hype, and this very much does that.

All I will add is take the winemaker's advice and open this 24 hours before you want to drink it (pop and then put the cork back in). This is apparently what they do at the winery for tastings and seemed to work pretty well; a long decant likely would also. (2197 views)
 Tasted by mike88williams on 12/25/2021: Christmas 2021 (1936 views)
Tasted by wdcwineguys on 7/31/2021 & rated 94 points: 1hr decant. Expressive black fruit on the nose and pallet. A bit of black pepper on the finish. Great wine that will likely get even better with some additional cellar time. (1908 views)
Tasted by YankeeRobio on 5/2/2021 & rated 99 points: WOTN out of six stellar Syrah's. The elegance and power of this wine was outstanding. (1943 views)
Tasted by michigan dogs on 3/31/2021 & rated 95 points: excellent, even though the drinking window starts! in 2024, it will be hard to keep my hands off this. Torrin Akasha's are 100% syrah, and are as good as Syrah can be. So well put together, my last glass left me wanting more. Looking forward to visiting the winery in April. (1660 views)
Tasted by YankeeRobio on 3/18/2021 & rated 99 points: Incredible wine. Black raspberry, red licorice, charred fennel, subtle charcoal, light white pepper (1744 views)
Tasted by MAXIMUM SATISFACTION on 2/7/2021 & rated 96 points: Nomination for best Syrah in Paso. Full bodied and ripe with loads of blue/black fruit, milk chocolate, cassis, espresso, and iodine. Silky and smooth but could use a few years to mellow out. (1691 views)
Tasted by dlcass on 2/7/2021 & rated 94 points: Silky, nose of dark berry, aged smoked meat, perfume... very nice mouth feel and finish. (1649 views)
Tasted by awineo on 2/5/2021 & rated 97 points: Incredible wine. Big fruit forward Syrah. Balanced tannins.
Highly recommend Torrin's wines. So good I ended up drinking
the entire bottle. (1305 views)
Tasted by Tyler C on 1/2/2021 & rated 95 points: So very very good. I couldn’t bring myself to open the 2015 just yet so I settled on opening a 2016 and couldn’t of been more pleased. So excited to try the 15. Torrin is hand down my favorite at the moment. (1208 views)
Tasted by Amerique on 11/25/2020 & rated 93 points: Rich, delicious blackberry fruit with raisin flavors, excellent structure, long finish, nose stale smelling (1170 views)
Tasted by Roger Patterson on 7/10/2020 & rated 92 points: Big and balanced with dried meat, pepper and acid to balance. At tasting room with Toni. (1819 views)
Tasted by dclaggett on 12/30/2019 & rated 93 points: 15.8% abv. Dark purple, magenta rim. Viscous, staining of tears. Whiff of heat on nose. Nose a little closed, definitely dark fruits, baking spices, charred meat, but also hints of asphalt? motor oil? Not unpleasant, just interesting. Full in mouth. Supple entry then tannins show after about 10 seconds. Berries, confection, char siu bao, somewhat monolithic profile now but appears to have potential for further development. Finishes sweet and med plus length. (2378 views)
Tasted by wdcwineguys on 11/24/2019 & rated 93 points: 2 hr decant. Big nose of dark, ripe fruit. Tight upon opening, but opened up nicely after a couple of hours. Going to give the rest of my bottles a couple of years to really develop. (2063 views)
Tasted by mwneil on 9/28/2019 & rated 92 points: Paso Robles wines; 9/27/2019-9/28/2019 (Paso Robles): Tasted at winery, OK wine, pure flavors, big wine, intense, no character, sorry JD not 100, would try again, not my style. (2527 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
