Tasted by brasstab on 2/5/2024 & rated 94 points: Lucious and seductive. Packed with red fruit, but not bursting at the seams. Exquisitely balanced with savory notes. (500 views)
Tasted by ocwineo on 12/20/2023 & rated 92 points: this years estate bottling is exceptional-full bodied and loaded with jammy fruit-perfectly balanced (515 views)
Tasted by tbrader on 12/11/2023 & rated 92 points: Beautiful and complex floral notes initially on the nose. Solid core of red cherry, gentle oak. (554 views)
Tasted by Winokdub on 4/16/2023 & rated 93 points: Still young and somewhat primary but with an hour plus if air you get great aromatics and density in the pallette. A myriad of flavor throughout. Finishing strong but balanced. (977 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 1/29/2023 & rated 93 points: Wonderful ripe red cherry, floral, and vanilla notes on the open nose and silky palate with long finish and refreshing acidity and tannins. (1145 views)
Tasted by Francophile1 on 12/5/2022 & rated 91 points: Pop and pour and drinking great straight out of the bottle. Bing cherry, wild raspberry, smooth and creamy finish. Easy drinking, primary, pairs well with food. (1307 views)
Tasted by tbrader on 10/3/2022 & rated 90 points: Core of red fruit, with a lightly tart finish. Wrapped in light coating of oaky vanilla. Lots of structure. (1179 views)
Tasted by Moonie on 8/5/2022 & rated 90 points: A year plus later from the last bottle, this was still holding back. Really needed a 2-3 hour decant for a touch of harshness and the alcohol to blow off. It was fine after that time, but for me, it needed a touch of sweetness which this Pinot didn't have. Will wait another year to try the last bottle. (1388 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 1/24/2022 & rated 93 points: As delicious as the last bottle! (1737 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 12/19/2021 & rated 93 points: Wonderful ripe red cherry, floral, and vanilla notes on the open nose and silky palate with long finish and refreshing acidity and tannins. (1431 views)
Tasted by Pvaddadi on 9/25/2021 & rated 90 points: Good acidity, light bodied and tart with notes of plump; strawberry and plum. Finished with a lasting finish. Goes well with salads and appetizers (1620 views)
Tasted by winefloat on 6/10/2021: I feel like this one was opened when all the elements were right. Undoubtedly my favorite vintage of this wine and bottle i've had to date. Amazing balance of fruit, acidity, minerality. Wish I ordered more of this. (1898 views)
Tasted by danstrings on 4/16/2021 & rated 88 points: Good taut, heady, spicy fruit on the nose. Bright fruit and some exotic spice / hint of oak on the palate. Nice, needs a year or two to loosen up. (1846 views)
Tasted by Moonie on 4/11/2021 & rated 89 points: Great depth of black fruits, excellent balance with a touch of sweetness. However, the 14.5 percent alcohol was a put off-putting and created a bit of a bitter finish. I'd wait a few years for the next bottle to see if the alcohol integrates. (1327 views)
Tasted by whits on 3/11/2021 & rated 94 points: Decanted for a couple of hours, highly aromatic showing scents of baked raspberry, forest floor and spice on the nose, super fine tannin, silk in the mouth, full bodied with a dark mood, lifted and ethereal, shows beautiful mixed berry, mint, black tea and hibiscus flavors in the mouth, long lasting finish, outstanding top shelf Cali pinot (1357 views)
Tasted by DannyM on 12/31/2020: Drank on NYE with apps...loved it! Not overly fruity or earthy. Great balance! (1554 views)
Tasted by T.O.Wineaux on 10/21/2020 & rated 94 points: Excellent value Pinot from Rochioli! Just loaded with strawberry and blueberry notes with great length and a looooong finish. Given how great the estate is I can't wait to try the vineyard designates! (1952 views)
Tasted by aaronwine on 10/6/2020 & rated 93 points: Already drinking exceptionally well. Lush RRV fruit showing off the softness of CA pinot but with great depth, balance and acidity. Well made and such a great reflection of why this region is special and can deliver without being the fruit bomb or unbalanced mess that so many in CA produce. (1599 views)
Tasted by ColluraJ on 10/4/2020 & rated 95 points: Bright ruby color. Aromas of fall leaves, freshly cut strawberry and clove. Fresh acidity. Flavors of cranberry, green apple and anise. Long finish. Its young but delicious! One of my favorites. (1438 views)
Tasted by Chili on 5/24/2020 & rated 92 points: Beautiful dusty cherry with mild pepper evolved to tangy strawberries (1940 views)
Tasted by Matt Scott on 4/9/2020 & rated 94 points: Bramble berry, forest floor, wet earth, dried raspberry and lilies. Finely layered, with a stunning middle and a welcomed effervescence. The finish sails on, and this is quite open, with the ability to age. So lovely with swift, and silky tannins. Drink now - 2030. (2148 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
