Community Tasting Notes (average 85.8 pts. and median of 86 pts. in 28 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by foobarski on 4/3/2009 & rated 84 points: Highly drinkable straight out of the bottle, lots of fruit, very mellow. (2788 views)
Tasted by PolarBear22 on 11/15/2008 & rated 84 points: Enjoyed with some deep dish pizza. Less fruit than the Track 2 at this point. Went well with the food, but not as well on its own. Last glass in the bottle did only OK overnight. (May be that I could not reseal the screwtop.) (2710 views)
Tasted by cameo932 on 2/1/2008 & rated 84 points: Had with a pizza - great together! Let it open-up for about 5 hours before-hand...not too big, but nice...great to have for an everyday wine, especially after decanting. (2970 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 10/24/2007 & rated 87 points: Nice berry and some spice. The zin is apparent with some of the spice and nose. (3146 views)
Tasted by ch3nzi on 8/12/2007 & rated 85 points: Very good and smooth. Flattened out considerably over time. Great QPR, one of the best 10 dollar bottles I've ever had. (3274 views)
Tasted by Mantorp on 7/16/2007 & rated 84 points: flavorful and smooth, would recommend and get again (1878 views)
Tasted by oldsailor on 7/7/2007 & rated 88 points: Consistent with prior notes. (1887 views)
Tasted by spautz on 5/28/2007 & rated 88 points: Decanted for 3-4 hours prior to drinking; I think it really started to shine after 5-6, although my mom thought it was better at the beginning. It seemed to have an interesting balance between being simple, fruity, and easy-drinking; and being dark, complex, and not-fruit-forward. One sip would seem soft and light, the next would seem deep and dense. Maybe my tastebuds were just having an odd day, but I thought it was very intriguing and enjoyable. The finish was a tad sour and hot (depending on the sip -- it seemed to waver between flawed and flawless), but other than that the wine was smooth, rich, and flavorful. I think both new and experienced wine drinkers would like this. Good value. (1929 views)
Tasted by oldsailor on 5/13/2007 & rated 89 points: Consistent with prior notes, but just better, tannins are very soft, barely noticeable. I'll be buying more of this NV for sure. (1968 views)
Tasted by oldsailor on 5/5/2007 & rated 88 points: I'm definitely enjoying this bottle more than my first one. Niice bouquet, color is deep red, medium body. Soft tannins frame the fruit very nicely and suggest this wine will continue to age nicely. Great value, and it's actually much better than an "everyday drinker". (1991 views)
Tasted by pgreen on 5/4/2007: Also good. (1078 views)
Tasted by jerwin on 4/22/2007 & rated 82 points: A little tart 30 minutes after opening the bottle. (2130 views)
Tasted by jerwin on 1/22/2007 & rated 84 points: A good wine to serve when you need something good but not great, for example with guests that have no real appreciation for great wine. This wine is good, needs to breath for a good hour or more before it starts to open up. (2315 views)
Tasted by schloess4 on 12/6/2006 & rated 88 points: I may have rated my first bottle a little high. It was one of the first times I attempted to rate a wine. I was wowed by it. The second bottle was still excellent but not a 90. I made the mistake of putting it in the fridge and accidentally left it there for several days. But after pouring it into a glass and letting it sit for an hour or so it came back around. This is a great wine to have around for everyday drinking or with friends. I wish I had purchased more from woot. (2334 views)
Tasted by vaaccess on 11/30/2006 & rated 85 points: Not as good as my first bottle for some reason, but still very good...Especially the second day after opening it. (2455 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 11/21/2006 & rated 88 points: Nice blend, the zin was evident and the syrah adding some nice fuller notes (2504 views)
Tasted by careyd on 11/4/2006 & rated 89 points: Profile: Great Pizza Wine.
Tasting Notes: Very Dark, purple-red to rim. Clear to slight haze. Youthful, aromatic nose of cherries, floral notes, spice and leather, also a very slight vegetal aroma underneath the others. On the palate, it is dry, medium bodied (I thought it would be heavier than it was), with *tart* acidity and medium astringent tannins. Flavors of cherry liqueur, spice and tobacco. Secondary flavors push the syrah and zin components to the foreground with a 10 second dry spicy finish with undertones of licorice. This wine presents some heat with 14.5% alcohol, but the heat mellows 30 minutes after opening. Have a half-bottle standing by for the second night. Will update here if necessary.
Composition: 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Zinfandel, 18% Syrah, 13% Petite Sirah (2444 views)
Tasted by InHoc on 10/20/2006 & rated 89 points: I had low expectations and was delighted. It was a little hot, but quite delicious (2750 views)
Tasted by ihavezinned on 10/13/2006 & rated 81 points: Mostly agree with "oldsailor" below. Was very hot upon opening, but mellowed over a few hours. The nose opened up over time as well, with licorice and a hint of cherry. (2533 views)
Tasted by oldsailor on 10/12/2006 & rated 86 points: Deep red color, not a lot of bouquet. On the palate, berries and spice. A very nice everyday drinker. (2527 views)
Tasted by vaaccess on 9/18/2006 & rated 89 points: Wow, quite impressive! The immediate taste right out of the bottle has some impressive flavors. It's quite peppery, which I enjoy, and has a nice hint of fruit in the back end. I bought three bottles from this winery and was expecting this to be the weakest...If this is any indication of what the others will offer, I'm going to be VERY happy! (2662 views)
Tasted by schloess4 on 9/16/2006 & rated 88 points: Very tasty. More spicy than I expected. I would buy again.
(NOTE: I changed my rating on this because I was pretty new to rating wine when I first rated this. Was 90 - Now 88. Besides it was my first wine.woot ever and I was a bit excited.) (2467 views)
Tasted by buddy22 on 9/1/2006 & rated 89 points: A pretty good find! Very enjoyable on its own. Fuller bodied than I anticipated, light to medium tannins. Clean finish. Curious on how it might be a year from now. (2459 views)
Tasted by ncwinos on 8/31/2006 & rated 86 points: Full of fruit, very tasty with pizza. Finished bottle next night, had mellowed a little, still very nice. (2393 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Sonoma Valley

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.

Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.
