Tasted by soumamae on 12/12/2023: Nicely mature, can go longer for curiosity but the balance is good now. Pairs well with any beef. (289 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 5/4/2022: So I actually enjoyed this bottle (with Bolognese) much better than the first three. There is still just a hint of raisin, which distracts, but overall a quite nice Chianti for the price. Even with a touch of raisin, this was an excellent value at $15. (1357 views)
Tasted by sammc on 1/11/2022 & rated 91 points: Decanted 1 hr and had with grilled pork chops. This is a wine that exceeds in many ways. It might be better after a little longer decant as it is opening up as the meal progresses. It is a great QPR that will continue to develop over a few more years. (1488 views)
Tasted by ramclain on 12/30/2021 & rated 89 points: Super complex and savory for a Chianti of this age. (1474 views)
Tasted by ramclain on 11/30/2021 & rated 91 points: A very nice representation. Notes of deep red fruit, especially dried cherry, with a dry finish. (1582 views)
Tasted by MCrawford on 11/23/2021 & rated 89 points: Give this an hour in the decanter beforehand and you won't be disappointed. Lasagna, Penne, Zita... pick your favorite pasta and a well made tomato based sauce and enjoy. (1454 views)
Tasted by ramclain on 10/12/2021 & rated 90 points: Complex and full bodied. (968 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 9/18/2021: A good Chianti for $15 from WTSO, and a solid companion to homemade pizza, but lacks refinement. A worrying hint of raisin upon opening thankfully disappeared, leaving a somewhat rustic, heavy-handed style of Chianti. After a few hours the wine again shows just an edge of raisin, but mostly it stayed fresh enough, darker fruited profile. The raisin notes in a really easy year like '16 might suggest slightly shoddy winemaking, as it should have been easy enough to exclude less-than-perfect fruit in that vintage. Even so, it's pleasant enough in a simple style and will perform well with pizza or red sauce pastas. It's a bit richer than you'd find in most Chiantis at this price point, but could use a bit more lift. Time might help and bring a bit more balance, but I wouldn't bet on this being a long term ager.  Tasted by ramclain on 7/3/2021 & rated 90 points: So much better after decanting over an hour. Smoothes out nicely, a bit harsh at first. (1201 views)
Tasted by ramclain on 6/24/2021 & rated 91 points: Smooth and complex, notes red fruit, but with a nice balance of light oak and vanilla. (1090 views)
Tasted by sammc on 6/21/2021 & rated 91 points: Much better than average daily drinker. Nicely paired with pizza. Great QPR. Bought more. (1069 views)
Tasted by ramclain on 5/2/2021 & rated 91 points: Stellar Chianti, loads of red fruit, predominantly bright cherry, with enough complexity and balance to keep me coming back for more. (1125 views)
Tasted by mwneil on 4/20/2021 & rated 88 points: We drink lots of Chianti, this wine is good but it lacks the purity of fruit, tannic, ok fruit, my wife was not impressed, Vinous overrates it, drank with homemade pizza, good value, will drink again. (1092 views)
Tasted by Bill and Tina on 4/10/2021 & rated 87 points: Great Pizza night wine (796 views)
Tasted by Androurse on 12/12/2020 & rated 90 points: The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, cranberry and wet dog. It tastes like blackberry, cranberry, black currant (cassis) and fur. The body is medium/full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity. (666 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 2/17/2020: Chianti Classico, Riserva, Gran Selezione, etc., new releases; 2/17/2020-2/18/2020 (Stazione Leopalda, Firenze): Anteprima Chianti Classico Collection, Florence

Creamy oak, ripe red fruits, short finish. Not for me.

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
