Fantastic wine! (1835 views)
Tasted by bavaur on 1/28/2021 & rated 93 points: Consumed over three or four days. Initially a powerful burst of lemon and fresh green apple on the nose. Well rounded palate with some crunchy apple flesh and a hint of brioche. Really opened up by the last day. (1930 views)
Tasted by EpochMD on 1/11/2021 & rated 93 points: I’ve been drinking older vintage so much I forgot how much explosive acid these can have, and this has it in spades - crisp apple takes a back seat to lip puckering lemon zest. Finishes clean. 92-93 (1973 views)
Tasted by OldHick95 on 1/1/2021 & rated 92 points: Great way to bring in the New Year! Vibrant lemon nose. Flavors of lemon-lime, ginger. Snappy finish. (1524 views)
Tasted by EpochMD on 12/15/2020 & rated 94 points: Awesomely crisp and refreshing with notes of crisp apple, hit of lemon on the front, and then brioche and a touch of golden raisin on the end, that’s the only thing pointing to an 8 year-old vintage. So nice. (1619 views)

2015 Schramsberg Vineyards Blanc de Blancs Napa Valley Carneros Schwarze Vineyard

FROM RELEASE NOTES:

Made in the Blanc de Blancs style, the 2015 Schwarze Brut Napa Carneros showcases a single Chardonnay vineyard from the small bay influenced Carneros AVA in southern Napa Valley. Lying 5 - 10 miles inland from the cool San Pablo Bay, Carneros welcomes cool temperatures and a slow cloud burn-off throughout the growing season. These climatic conditions allow for excellent flavor development and acid retention in the grapes.

From the Schwarze Vineyard Chardonnay block bordering the east side of Carneros Creek just north of Las Amigas Road, this bottling celebrates our long-standing partnership with the David Schwarze family. The dark loamy soils along the Carneros Creek provide the vines with a surplus of nutrients and water with which to grow, producing grapes with intense flavors and gripping acidic structure. Consistently producing some of our very best Chardonnay grapes, we are pleased to have worked with the Schwarze family for over 28 years.

We harvested our first fruit from Carneros back in 1985 and starting in 1998 consistently produced a bottling focused solely from the fruit grown in this viticultural appellation. The 2015 year delivered California vintners a stellar vintage. A mild winter led to an early bud break, followed by bloom during an unseasonable cooler spring, which contributed to smaller grape clusters and variable crop size. A steady and moderate weather pattern during ripening allowed for gradual maturity within the grapes and exceptional quality upon harvest.

With almost four years of aging en tirage, this vibrant and complex wine combines a rich texture with excellent drive on the palate. This bright, crisp sparkler will age beautifully, evolving for 20+ years to come with attractive caramelized, nutty and toasted flavor attributes.
TASTING NOTES
The 2015 Schwarze Vineyard Napa Valley Carneros Blanc de Blancs has generous aromas of lemon curd, green apple and pear. The nose is complemented by notes of cinnamon, ginger, and citrus zest. On the palate, there are flavors of lemon-lime rounded out by white peach and baked pineapple. The quenching finish lingers on the palate with grapefruit and a racy acidity.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Napa / Sonoma

SONOMA: The Yorkville Highlands AVA, approved in 1998, is located in the southwestern corner of Mendocino County, between Sonoma County's Alexander Valley to the South and Mendocino County!s Anderson Valley to the North. The region is 25 miles long, roughly in the shape of rectangle and bisected by Highway 128 which runs the length of the AVA. The region!s terrain is hilly and forested, with elevations ranging from 1,078 to 2,442 feet above sea level.
The distinguishing features of the Yorkville Highlands AVA are rocky soils with a high gravel content and the climate, which is cooler than Alexander Valley but warmer than Anderson Valley, and significantly cooler at night than the surrounding areas.
