Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 11 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by IV+ on 5/18/2024 & rated 92 points: This is really good right now and should be for quite a few more years. Strawberry, cherry, a floral note and a hint of sweet pipe tobacco on the nose. On the medium body palate, it’s pretty intense with a gentle tannic rub and good acidity. Medium+ length. (48 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 4/3/2024 & rated 91 points: Second bottle from a half case purchased from the Dutch importer in 2021. Last tasted in November 2022 when it was ill at ease with itself but showed promise. Today it still displays that steely compactness which makes it less easy to approach, but the aromas develop well in the glass over seven hours. The finish remains a bit hard, and I wonder how this will develop. With ample air this is now ready to drink. (535 views)
Tasted by JoeMe on 3/29/2024 & rated 92 points: Purchased beginning of June 2021 at the winery’s restaurant, 6 weeks before the devastating flood and patiently cellared since. Very appealing nose, blackberry, raspberry, cherry, elegant and yet subtle oak, a touch of tobacco. Similar fruit on the palate, foremost dark berries. Almost bold for a Pinot Noir (and I am not referring to alcohol). Minerals, medium tannins, graceful balance. Gave this 6+ hours air and it felt that it needed it. A real treat! 92-93 (129 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 11/8/2022 & rated 90 points: Last tasted in 2021, when I did not like it at all. Far better now, still youthfully tight but with rich and spicy slate minerality, good weight of ripe fruit, firm but well integrated tannins, hint of cream but not really at ease with itself yet. Needs more time. (1525 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 10/20/2022 & rated 92 points: Beautiful bouquet with red berries, some oak and iron. On the palate ripe and juicy red berries, mild acidity and slightly sticky tannin. Still youthful, beautiful wine. (1035 views)
Tasted by Shiaxonna on 8/29/2021 & rated 89 points: Delightful, fresh and fruity. Good concentration and purity of the palate. Enjoyable! (1181 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 8/23/2021 & rated 87 points: Ahr Charity tasting (Karakter Wijnimport, Amsterdam, NL): Lovely spicy sweetness on the nose, quite astringent palate, drying finish. (1613 views)
Tasted by Christof Schwarz on 5/10/2021: Schöner Spätburgunder. (974 views)
Tasted by macaujames on 12/31/2020 & rated 92 points: 91/92. The fullest Blauschiefer I have had. Its aromas as always are first class like perfume with earthy schist, black slate and leather infused raspberries, flowers and red cherries. Has the typical Dernau schist and black slate which are impregnated into the nicely opulent coffee flecked freshly fruited red and blue fruits. Just lacks a bit of length to rate higher. 13,5%. Lay down 3-5 years. Needs 2-3 hrs aeration. (1283 views)

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
