Tasted by beatles on 11/29/2023 & rated 95 points: Oh, but you shouldnt have, and then again. This is extremely well structured, concentrated, vertical, dense with rich black fruit, black berries galore and sound tannin. Much too young, of course, enjioyabke nevertheless

Tasted by kostaslonis on 10/31/2023: 2019 Bordeaux Tasting, MW tasting (Vintner's Hall, London): 53% Mer 40% CS 7% CF, 14.50%
Bir ripe and juicy in the nose, some darker fruit notes, coffee, chocolate, some liqueur notes, licorice, elegant, the oak gets more upfront with more air in the glass
Palate is very smooth, juicy tannins, elegant, great texture, coffee notes, warmth, med finish (3590 views)
Tasted by otto60 on 9/7/2023 & rated 95 points: Dark glowing concentrated red
Licorice in the long aftertaste
Very balanced
Earthy tones noticeable
Can be a top mission in years
For perfection some sparkle is (yet) missing (4107 views)
Tasted by Keith Levenberg on 12/28/2022 & rated 94 points: Reticent demeanor, but all the elements are here. Blueberry-shaded fruit comes laced with smoky ash and asphalt. The tannins are firm and grippy, almost gritty. This has fairly slender tailoring but it packs a punch above its weight. (8580 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 3/29/2022 & rated 98 points: A serious, age-worthy vintage of La Mission Haut Brion here. With a deep, dark, rich hue, the wine pops from the glass with its smoky essence made even better by its layers of black currants, black plums, tar, herbs, cigar box, and tobacco accents. The palate is full-bodied, powerful, rich, intense, mouth-filling, and long. Everything is in balance, meshing power with precision, purity, freshness, length, and complexity. Like all the great vintages of La Mission Haut Brion, this is going to demand time in the cellar before it unfurls and displays all it has to offer. Drink from 2036-2060. (10114 views)
Tasted by beatles on 2/22/2022 & rated 95 points: A wine in great harmony. Rich, sweet, broad with plenty going on, yet tight, structured, manly, chalky and in great balance. Wait ten years, at least for this.

Tasted by vvWine.ch on 1/13/2022 & rated 98 points: 98 vvPunkte (53% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 14.5%, verkoster im Dezember 2021 in Windisch) Leuchtendes Rubinrot. 2025-2045 vvWine.ch (8107 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 6/13/2020 & rated 99 points: Inky ruby in color, the wine blasts off with smoke, tar, hoisin sauce, oyster shell, thyme, black currants and plum aromas. The palate is full-bodied, powerful, rich, intense, mouth filling and long. The wine coats your palate, but there is nothing heavy about it. Everything is in balance, meshing power with precision, purity and depth with a finish of more than 60 seconds! This is one of the great vintages for LMHB! Created from a blend of 53% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cabernet Franc, reaching14.6% alcohol with a pH of 3.9. Picking took place September 11 through October 2. The Grand Vin was produced from 50% of the harvest. 98-100 Pts (19108 views)

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Producer website - Read more about Chateau La Mission Haut Brion

Château La Mission-Haut-Brion is the greatest Graves wine after Haut-Brion and in some vintages is considered the superior wine of the two. La Mission-Haut-Brion is situated just across the road from Haut-Brion in the commune of Talence in the southern suburbs of Bordeaux. Since 1983, both properties have been under the same ownership, Domaine Clarence Dillon S.A. La Mission-Haut-Brion's vineyards (Cabernet Sauvignon 48%, Merlot 45%, Cabernet Franc 7%) lie on a large (up to 18 metres deep in places) gravel bank interspersed with clay. The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless steel vats and then matured in oak barriques (100% new) for 18 months. The wines of La Mission Haut Brion are rich, oaky and powerful and need at least 10 years of bottle ageing before they should be broached.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
