Community Tasting Notes (average 88.9 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 15 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Scottwhipp on 10/5/2023 & rated 88 points: Woody oak barrel and earthy blackberry on the nose. Slightly tart black cherry, blackberry and pine resin on the palate. Light/medium tannins on a medium length kirsch liqour finish. Blend of Petite Syrah (13%) and Petit Verdot (8%) adds the “deep purple” color and flavor and a dash of Malbec (2%) for softness and red fruit. Not bad at all for a $20 Livermore Cabernet. Good steak wine. (288 views)
Tasted by MThorn on 6/19/2023 & rated 87 points: As others said, not much there. (386 views)
Tasted by ThistleB on 3/12/2022 & rated 86 points: Not much there. Somewhat of a disappointment for a Cali Cab. Acidic on the brief finish. Better Cabernets out there for sub-$20 (986 views)
Tasted by peeno on 12/30/2021 & rated 89 points: Good QPR. Mild coffee and spice. Not complex which is not expected for the price. Very enjoyable more so than restaurant wines by the glass at the same bottle price. (1094 views)
Tasted by CdrCabernet on 8/27/2021 & rated 86 points: Great aroma on the nose, but disappointing on the palate. Almost non-existant tannin structure. No finish. Very muddled flavors. It's not expensive, but I expected a little more. (1407 views)
Tasted by AGELVIS on 7/8/2021 & rated 88 points: One hour slow ox. Very deep magenta color. Tart black cherry and pine sap on the tight, youthful nose. Smooth, dry, tart palate. Firm, full tannins on the medium long finish.

I know this Cab can be much better. It needs another year in bottle and/or a 2+ hour decant. (1809 views)
Tasted by jjlobi on 5/10/2021 & rated 88 points: Pleasant tasting and definite keeper. (1253 views)
Tasted by mpcf1wc on 3/13/2021 & rated 90 points: Initially lots of Bing Cherry and a spicy finish. 2 hours in a different quaff. Rich stone fruit and supremely mellow finish. Very tasty. (872 views)
Tasted by Philip67 on 1/13/2021 & rated 89 points: Nice bright fresh red and black fruit. Light to medium body. Well made, almost polished. Medium finish, straight forward. Can drink now and over the next 5+ years. (853 views)
Tasted by egravy on 12/1/2020: - medium tannins, slightly dusty
- full-bodied
- dark cherries?
- subtle spices
- medium to high acidity? (541 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
