A medium full bodied easy drinking Cab, with black cherry, black currants, and some spice on finish. Expected more as I tried in tasting room, so maybe one off bottle. www.winelx.com (1718 views) | | Tasted by RVC_Wine on 5/21/2023 & rated 92 points: Before decant Nose P intensity of dark currants and spiced black plum, cocoa dust, hit stones, Palate bright raging m+ acidity, v fine m+ tannin, mocha, dark cherry, leafy green tobacco, graphite, coffee Focused and linear
After Nose has eased off into a more savoury territory, intensity mutes, more leafy tobacco, olive aromatics. Palate remains true, tannins still very grippy
Intense, classy and stylish but without soul. B .5 C y I y L n (1801 views) | | Tasted by WineKnut on 4/20/2023 & rated 92 points: Stitching itself together nicely after a two hour decant. Reassessing my window here. Prime time might be around 2025 and still really good and powerful now. Fruit is just a touch over ripe on day two, but still plenty of structure. Thinking long term window might be around 2030 for my palate. (1784 views) | | Tasted by Flemboy on 4/16/2023 & rated 91 points: Solid effort on a daily drinker. Black fruit jam with hints of menthol. (1854 views) | | Tasted by nrjessup on 11/19/2022 & rated 90 points: Dark fruited with notes of black currants, sour cherries and tobacco on the nose. Drinks with moderate acidity and an oaky undertone throughout. Fairly even keeled, still enjoying for what it is... a wine that doesn't try to do too much but still manages to punch above its weight class. (2222 views) | | Tasted by WineKnut on 11/9/2022 & rated 91 points: Shaping up nicely and putting on a bit of weight since my last bottle in April earlier this year. Showing more crunchy red fruit, depth and a bit more tobacco. (1878 views) | | Tasted by Lord of the Bottles on 9/30/2022 & rated 91 points: Tight in the glass. With air opened nicely to taut black and blue fruit, leaning more towards the blue side in time. No fireworks or great complexity here just a nicely balanced and smooth wine. 90-91 (2239 views) | | Tasted by BCFrench1527 on 9/13/2022 & rated 89 points: Pretty generically Napa. Decent acid, flavors are all regionally correct, just slightly muted/bland as cabs go. (1967 views) | | Tasted by nrjessup on 8/31/2022 & rated 91 points: Dark garnett in glass with blackberry and dried cherry notes on the nose. There is a semi-lush mouthfeel with a chalky earthy full flavored finish. Medium to full body, medium finish. Hitting its stride now. (2187 views) | | Tasted by wineotim on 8/5/2022 & rated 91 points: Really came together with a lot of time out of the bottle. Last bottle. (1728 views) | | Tasted by Frank-H on 5/16/2022 & rated 90 points: 90+ (2336 views) | | Tasted by WineKnut on 4/24/2022 & rated 90 points: Decided to pnp to make space and followed over 6 hours... I think this should be ready to go for my palate in 4-6 years.
Showed pretty well at the end of the night. (2259 views) | | Tasted by weilhome on 4/14/2022 & rated 92 points: Wonderful full cab. (2157 views) | | Tasted by Gkautry on 4/1/2022 & rated 94 points: Tried another bottle now that they have had a couple of months following shipping and transport. Also added about a 30 minute decant. More approachable now than before. Bumping to 94. Well suited to my taste. (2202 views) | | Tasted by BobMilton on 3/24/2022 & rated 92 points: Nice everyday Napa cab at a reasonable price. Dark fruit. (1977 views) | | Tasted by pommieba@cox.net on 3/18/2022 & rated 92 points: Solid Napa Cab- Ripe Dark Cherry with an Earthy Cedar note. Well balanced with just enough Tannin to keep all the flavours together. Finishes with a hint of Pepper. (428 views) | | Tasted by Addeatum on 3/5/2022 & rated 91 points: A mea culpa. I have not drank many "top" end Napa cabs (and maybe this is not an example of same). Most Napa's I have drank are fruit forward, jammy and not really my style. I am more a left bank Bordeaux fan. Bought this because, for the second year in a row, it was awarded a best in show in the Decanter World Wine Awards. Clearly worth a go. Definitely not what I expected. While not austere that word came to mind. There was nothing lush about the wine. The wine was a dark magenta in the glass. The nose was muted but what there was brambles. The palette was mouth puckering. Some more bramble but a streak of iron and Oregon grape. Mouth watering acidity, substantial but not over powering tannins. It is clearly young. I have great anticipation for the development of this wine and am very glad I bought enough to try 3, 5 and more years out. 91 for now but believe that the next note will be more generous. I should try more Napa's, clearly they are not all fruit and flab. (1955 views) | | Tasted by Jon Harrison on 2/27/2022 & rated 92 points: Color: Dark ruby.
Nose: Opened up after 45 minutes to reveal sweet and pure black cassis, black cherry fruit with a touch of mineral.
Pal: Smooth, lush, supple. Full body. Very good concentration. Excellent balance. Ripe tannins. 14.2% alc.
Tonight: 92 solid.
92-94 potential. This would develop more complexity with a few years of aging. This should be phenomenal particularly between 2026 - 2028. If you have the patience to wait.
Beautiful wine and excellent value in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Trefethen, per usual.
JGH sommelier CMS-III, SF Bay Area CA (1819 views) | | Tasted by nrjessup on 2/19/2022 & rated 90 points: A dark maroon color in glsss with a woodsy oak and preserved rasberries on the nose. Medium body and lengthy finish. (1680 views) | | Tasted by Ryan Haus on 2/2/2022: Wow! This punches way above it's $50 price tag.
N: black plum, black currant, cherries, tomato paste, dark chocolate, bramble, toasted spices, vanilla, cedar, tobacco
P: black plum, black currant, dried cherries, toasted black pepper,
Dry, medium (+) tannins, medium (+) acidity, full body, high alcohol, long finish
This is a big, intense Napa Cab bursting with fruit flavors without being jammy. The tannins are definitely present on the palate, but they're rounded and integrated. The alcohol is very hot and it feels higher than the 14.2% listed. It's worth drinking now, but I'm looking forward to trying another in 3 to 5 years. (1714 views) | | Tasted by Gkautry on 1/26/2022: Always consistent vintage to vintage. The 2018 is no exception. Has the elements of much higher priced Napa cabs. 92 (1763 views) | | Tasted by wineotim on 1/22/2022 & rated 90 points: Curbing my enthusiasm for this wine. Might be in a dumb phase. (2047 views) | | Tasted by motuski on 1/15/2022 & rated 94 points: Beautiful Napa cap. Dark and red fruit on the nose, also notes of leather, violets, vanilla. Medium acidity and balanced tannins. Drinking well now though a few years might do it good. A visit to Trefethen winery estate in Oak Knoll District, Napa Valley - https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2013/05/trefethen-family-napa-valley-estate.htmlCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners) |
