Tasted by jproject on 3/26/2024: First time trying the reserve and surprised it didn't really need much time to decant. Drank well PnP. I find this to be very balanced in terns of acidity, mid-palate and finish. Pretty soft tannin compared to the Mayacamas and Mascot I had recently. Definitely more fruit forward than the other 2 but not over-powering. Really enjoyed this and interested to see how it evolves with some age. (365 views)
Tasted by SuperSomm on 3/15/2024 & rated 91 points: Deep ruby colour. Medium (+) and developing nose with blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco, leather and green bell pepper. Medium taste of blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco, stems, leather and green bell pepper. Long and dry finish. High acidity. High tannins. Full body. An outstanding Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that needs time. Drink in ten to twenty years. Goes well with beef or lamb. (351 views)
Tasted by DominikMueller on 3/2/2024 & rated 92 points: Robert Mondavi Winery Masterclass Tasting (Hattenheim, Germany): Deep, dark purple colour. Intense nose of pencil, plum, cherry, vanilla, wood spice and mint. Appealing mix of cool mineral and spicy to fruity flavours. Matured for 21 months in 100% new French oak. Lots of grip on the tongue. Cassis, sour cherry, orange peel. The acidity is animating. Also a very slight sweetness. The tannins are firm, still a little impetuous. A lot of power in this wine. Finally, yes, this Cabernet Sauvignon says something about itself. There is profile here. Recognisable as the estate's flagship red wine, even if it is undoubtedly still too young today and could do with some more years of ageing. [First published on DMueller.com.] (427 views)
Tasted by Travislee0113 on 3/16/2023 & rated 96 points: Tasted together with Opus One 2018. Same nose (bouquet), better palate, and finish. Comparing with Opus One, this one was neck-and-neck. (1926 views)
Tasted by bitdrerik on 11/17/2022: Mondavi smakk á Konsúlat hóteli (Konsúlat hótel, Hafnarstræti 17-19): Mjög dökkur litur. (2380 views)
Tasted by aerosol on 6/19/2022 & rated 95 points: Wine Spectator Tour FTL
Got a big, big nose full of dark cherry, oak, and a hint of coffee and it's an additive pleasure while sipping this wine. The palate is full of cassis, black cherry, oak, black coffee, hint of mushroom and a load of tannins that coat your teeth and create a nice, long finish. This wine is delicious but allow it to age for a while. (2743 views)
Tasted by MattMauldin on 6/6/2022: Favorites - 2022 Wine Spectator Grand Tour - Las Vegas: Aromas of cherry & currant, cedar, pipe tobacco, clove and lavender. Rich and round, stately and elegant. Great depth and range. Fine tannins and a long finish. (2944 views)
Tasted by glou.sf on 1/28/2022 & rated 93 points: Tasted at the winery. Dark fruit, black cherries, some vanilla, cocoa, and a smokey quality on the nose. Tannins are big, but balanced by good acidity and lots of fruit flavors, blackberries, and some leather notes. Nice finish. Young but quite promising. The oak clearly needs some time to integrate, I'd give this 5-10 years in the cellar. 93+ (3274 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
