Tannins have a good grip and aren't too pronounced. Healthy acidity, blackberries and blueberries predominate. The 14.3% alcohol shows through on the finish. Overall a nice solid wine. I want sure what to expect from lake county, and it delivered.
Even though this wine is 6 1/2 years from harvest at this writing, it still has time left to mellow. (201 views) | | Tasted by Rbosland on 9/24/2023 & rated 91 points: Let this bottle breathe. It got better with every class. (540 views) | | Tasted by corkscrews on 3/20/2023 & rated 90 points: A nose of sweet dark fruit and spice, dark purple in color. A medium to full bodied red, with black cherry, plum, dark chocolate and spice on finish. www.winelx.com (1022 views) | | Tasted by NPCain on 1/8/2023 & rated 93 points: Loved this wine - very balanced and smooth out of the bottle. 2017 is drinking very well right now Purchase on Winetext for $30 which is a can’t miss. It’s still a good value at full price (1480 views) | | Tasted by Odedis.Wine.reviews on 11/29/2021 & rated 91 points: This is a very tasty Cabernet Sauvignon from Lake County.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with nice complexity.
Showing black fruits with wood, vanilla, earth, spices, leather, tobacco, vegetables, herbs, dark coffee and black pepper.
Easy drinking and good right out of the bottle. Feels like a Napa Cabernet.
Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.
I paired it with a Charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.
14.3% alcohol by volume.

$75. (2673 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 10/9/2021 & rated 91 points: Medium purple color. Interestingly tart nose of currants and blueberries, with lots of dried rose petal tones, pepper, anise, clove, but also vibrant and crisp. On the palate, this shows nice concentration with tangy acidity and solid tannins. Tart blueberries, blackberries, the fruit is laced with anise, charcoal, lavender, violet tones – a ton going here. Leathery, mineral-laded finish. This will show wonders in the next five to ten years. Includes 2% Petit Verdot, aged in 80% new French oak. Beautiful nose of wildflowers, blueberries, blackberries, light cedar, licorice, spices, black pepper, chocolates, dark coffee and earth.
Full bodied smooth and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, plums, blueberries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, tobacco, chocolates, light earth and peppercorn.
Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.
This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Lake County in California. Drinking very nicely now, with nice complexity and a soft mouthfeel.
Good by itself as a sipping wine, and good with food. Will be nice to revisit this in a few years, and see how it evolves.
Good right out of the bottle, but so much better after 2 hours of airtime, when it becomes so aromatic. Loved smelling on it for a long while.
Grapes are grown on rocky red volcanic soil, at elevation of 2,200 feet. A blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit verdot. Aged in (80% new) French Oak barrels. 1800 cases produced.

| Hawk and Horse Vineyards Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson North CoastThe North Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California, covering more than three million acres, includes Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties, and portions of Marin and Solano counties.
