 Tasted by wineian on 8/14/2021 & rated 92 points: Deep dark ink, leads to a typical Coonawarra nose with mint and herbaceousness plus lush fruit. The palate has blackerry, plum, refined tannins and cedar tones with some ricness and balance. Lovely finish. Enjoying this one. (442 views)
 Tasted by Rob-Rah on 6/23/2015 & rated 94 points: Not as sheerly exciting as when young. Maybe caught in a slightly awkward phase. Still a delicious Cabernet though, with Coonawarra written all over it. Drink or hold as this ought to reveal more with time. (2411 views)

A lovely drop showing typical attributes of a premium cab sav, although slight herbaceousness on the nose suggested a longer cellaring period. Another 4 or 5 years and it will be in its prime.  Tasted by Patrick - winereviewer.com.au on 7/27/2012 & rated 94 points: Deep red in colour, the nose shows plum and blackberry fruit that is backed by sweeter cinnamon / cedary oak characters.

The palate is steeped in blackberry with firm tannins and drying acidity that give way to black pepper and subtle mint on the long dark fruited finish.

 Tasted by TravisW on 4/17/2012 & rated 90 points: Picked up only last year and opened to reward some hard working slaves who love Coonawarra Cab Sauv (Mum and Dad). Deep, opaque purple/black with primary fruits still very evident on the nose. In the palate the body of the wine is med-full with fine acid and bracing tannin. Very easy and moreish to drink now after an hour in the decanter, but it would be so much better in another 4-8 years once the primary fruit starts to evolve... for my palate at least. Good VFM at A$40 for a 7 year old bottle. 90 now but with more age, 90+. (1674 views)

 Tasted by Zoltán Németi on 12/19/2010 & rated 89 points: Obviously Australian, eucalyptus and bay leaf lead the nose, with underlying dark fruit notes, like cassis and black cherry, and some chocolate. Cool climate profile, good concentration. On the palate it is medium bodied, offers mint and sour cherry flavours, framed by nervy acidity (probably a bit over-acidified) and medium tannins, though hasn't got the tannic structure of a Bordeaux. Good length.
Seems to develop nicely under screwcap, I bet this closure is as good for ageing wine on the long term as any natural cork. (1719 views)
 Tasted by Rob-Rah on 10/16/2010 & rated 92 points: Cabernet Sauvignon night: Dark purple. Bouquet incredibly primary cassis with some vanilla. Alcoholic ribena. Palate lovely and immense in fruit. A bit too primnary for me at the moment. It needs time to develop complexity. Good structure, powerful and lean. Extraordinarily good value for the price. (2016 views)
 Tasted by drspicy on 1/19/2009: Dark, inky colour. Nose: strong, bitter aroma of ginseng root overpowers the underlying fruit. Herbal, root flavour continues into the palette and gives it a very dry, green character. Needs time. Will revisit tomorrow. (1874 views)

The palate is led by powerful and juicy blackcurrant fruit, plenty of super fine tannin and a little lingering coffee on the finish. Its robust, well balanced and very long - excellent Cabernet and good value at around $30. (1779 views)

Producer website

Majella is located in Coonawara, some 200 miles south of Adelaide in an area known as the Limestone Coast Zone that is best known for its fine Cabernet Sauvignon. Originally suppliers for large wineries, owners Brian and Tony Lynn now produce 100% Cabernet, Shiraz and Riesling with fruit from their own vineyard under the Majella label, as well as blends of Cabernet and Shiraz. Bruce Gregory is Majella’s winemaker.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon
