| Community Tasting Notes (average 85.3 pts. and median of 85 pts. in 27 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Wildgrant on 2/6/2024: After reading the reviews I used this to braise some pork belly. After sampling the wine, I think it was a smart choice. (200 views) | | Tasted by UpfromtheCellar on 9/4/2023 & rated 87 points: Savory, earthy (muddy? - Thick mouth feel) wine with notes of pear and apple. Not loved by all but we still managed to finish the bottle. I agree with the earlier comments that it felt heavy and plodding - absolutely. (304 views) | | Tasted by OaktownRush on 6/24/2023: Like others, I wasn’t feeling this — it felt a little heavy and plodding on the palate. Beeswax, some neutral melon, a little bit of white flower. It’s sort of neutral in general doesn’t bring any briskness. (441 views) | | Tasted by jayw on 6/21/2023: Vague floral, beeswax notes, but so flabby and insipid with a bitter finish, it's barely drinkable. Consistently bad for all three bottles ordered from Garagiste. (416 views) | | Tasted by yanlov on 6/7/2023 & rated 70 points: Surprisingly poor. Smells good but the bizarre taste makes it undrinkable. The first ever bottle of wine that I had to flush down the toilet. "Rhône blanc", mon œil ! (422 views) | | Tasted by Fuz98112 on 3/12/2023 & rated 88 points: Lovely with spicy curry chicken. I understand most would not choose to sip this as a salve on a hot summer day, but works when matched reasonably well. (557 views) | | Tasted by Esteban on 3/6/2023 & rated 84 points: Vraiment pas très bon ce millésime. Manque de fruits , trop d’alcool. Disjoint. (468 views) | | Tasted by jayw on 12/2/2022: Acrid burnt wire notes with faint fruit and floral secondaries. Flabby and lifeless, with almost no acidity. Astonishingly bad. I'm surprised Bonny Doon released it under their own label. (592 views) | | Tasted by kcsteve on 11/27/2022 & rated 83 points: Poor QPR at $10! Flabby, bitter, metallic and just not very good. Was a Garagiste mystery wine and I'm sorry I bit. (527 views) | | Tasted by king-bing on 11/5/2022: Nice nose of chalk, talc. Palate tricky. Very like a white Cotes du Rhone, which is not my thing. A bit insipid and short finish. Poor value. (641 views) | | Tasted by aero on 9/5/2022 & rated 85 points: Medium bodied, modern styling. Fat, flabby, metalic, bittered. Not enough acidity to really sense specific fruit, but sits in the realm of tired pears and white gourds. Really quite a poor showing for Bonny Doon, maybe should have skipped this vintage. Is there a Golden Raspberry Award for wines? 84-86 (806 views) | | Tasted by Barolo Raymond on 8/11/2022 & rated 88 points: Mediium straw-yellow, viscous @13.5% abv. Floral aromas laced with beeswax and thyme. Dry, medium(-) acidity, medium(+) alcohol and ditto body. Richt textural attach with rather flat palate with of yellow plum, mango, honeyed apple, and white pepper. Well made, unctuous but not quite balanced nor exciting. Good length with spicy finish.
Blend of Grenache Blanc (60%), Vermentino (32%) and the remainder is made up of Clairettee Blanche. (662 views) | | Tasted by xwine on 6/22/2022: Yuck. Bitter and flabby. (421 views) | | Tasted by kosmik on 6/14/2022 & rated 83 points: Tout en amertume … trop en amertume. Déséquilibre. Pas de succès ici. (507 views) | | Tasted by jmcmchi on 3/3/2022: Significant bottle variation; this bottle much heavier and unctuous than first sample (527 views) | | Tasted by jmcmchi on 2/8/2022 & rated 88 points: Screw cap, 13.something % abv
I like the acidity the clairette component brings. Lightly viscous on palate, lovely southern fruit
At same price as the red, this is a much better buy (411 views) | | Tasted by Oenecnist on 11/26/2021: Bought one for 13 from a local eclectic independent shop--good experience with Bonny Doon, good price. Screwcap. Off-dry, muddled Rhone blanc flavors that never evolved, though I gave it 24h to try because of its youth. Disappointing. Closed out at 9/b shortly after I bought, but it still wasn't worth it. Quality, age, price: Drinkable+. (243 views) | | Tasted by The Drunken Cyclist on 11/22/2021 & rated 90 points: Retail $15. Under screw cap. 60% Grenache Blanc, 32% Vermentino, 8% Clairette Blanche. This is always one of the samples that I look forward to the most as I really love what Bonny Doon represents both in the region and the American wine scene in general (e.g., innovation, environmental stewardship). I also particularly like their focus on Rhône varieties, including those lesser known to Americans. This flagship white always delivers: great tropical fruit, minerality, and verve, all for around fifteen bucks? Yowza. Very nice.
www.thedrunkencyclist.com (597 views) | | Tasted by James Kim on 9/26/2021 & rated 85 points: 60% grenache Blanc, 32% vermentino, 8% clairette. Decanted. Now 45 min after decant. Aromas of flowers, nuts, mild honeysuckle, beeswax, unripe peaches, mild bitter herbs. Palate w waxy mouthfeel, unripe peaches, flowers w bitter herbal edge. Full bodiesld and low acid. Floral, peach, bitter medicinal finish. It's good and well made. But the low acid combined w floral bitter edge doesn't do it for me. Continues my impression that I'm not s fan of grenache blanc. (412 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 7/6/2021: Lovely yellow apple nose to it. Bill notes its intense florality. With allot of texture on the palate. Bill notes a kinda beery or hefawissen kinda thing about it. (517 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 7/6/2021: Warmer, better, and opening up a bit more. Golden apple, baking spices, more warmth if you will. Much more in harmony when a touch warmer. (605 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

Bonny Doon was sold in early 2020 to "WarRoom", a wine production and marketing entity formed in 2018. Per a January 2020 Decanter article - https://www.decanter.com/wine-news/californias-bonny-doon-sold-430550/ - "Graham will retain creative control of Bonny Doon’s wines, but production will change from 35,000 cases of 15 different wines annually to just four wines: the flagship red Rhône blend Le Cigare Volant; Le Cigare Blanc (based on Vermentino); Vin Gris de Cigare (a Rhône varietal rosé); and a 100% Picpoul."White Rhone BlendA white wine containing two or more Rhône varieties, including: Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers.
