Tasted by SeattlePaul on 12/23/2022: Over the hill (568 views)
 Tasted by europat55 on 10/14/2021 & rated 92 points: 2005 Chateauneuf-du-Pape (Tasted blind): Nose: 93; Palate: 91-92; (Tasted blind) (1419 views)
Tasted by 41hijinx on 3/12/2021 & rated 89 points: Dark garnet color in glass with fading rims. 14% alcohol. Lovely bouquet of mushrooms and damp earth. Moderate tannins in finish. Starting to fade. Fine particles of sediment. Drink soon (1522 views)
Tasted by Eventrider on 11/20/2020 & rated 88 points: Wine still has beautiful color. Tertiary flavors such as raisin are now present, but still has plenty of original, ripe dark fruit flavors such as bing cherry. Tannins are fully integrated and very supple. I would prefer more acidity. Drink now. (1655 views)
Tasted by dke on 10/18/2020 & rated 90 points: First night: lots of animal funk on the nose but quite tasty. On the second night nose was cleaner: cherry and leather also mirrored on the palate. Still good tannins and acidity. Enjoyable CdP. (1716 views)
Tasted by CCestaro on 10/8/2020 & rated 86 points: This wine has seemed to have lost its vibrancy. Not significant signs of aging in color, but the nose is not expressive at all. The palate has some real alcohol muting the bit of red fruit, combined by a bit of puniness that I’m not a big fan of. The finish is short. This wine was cellared well for 12 years from purchase. I think it’s well on its way south. (1372 views)
Garrigue. Terre. Galets.
Notre dernière. (1211 views)
Tasted by gothamfreerider on 9/7/2020 & rated 80 points: Waited too long. Fruits are there. But alcohol tinge aftertaste makes it intolerable . (844 views)
Tasted by mark_m_owen on 6/8/2019 & rated 88 points: A bit thin. All the elements are there with fruit, spice and earthiness. Tannins are soft but overall lacks punch on the nose and in the mouth. Very nice glass but I think probably kept beyond its peak. (1501 views)
Tasted by GGinSF on 11/28/2018 & rated 88 points: Drinking very well even with a lot of age. Tannins are soft, body is good, fruit is still fresh. No decanting, which I think was a good choice. I wouldn’t try to age this out any further; drink now. (1706 views)
Tasted by JGinMO on 8/26/2018 & rated 90 points: Best just after pouring. Had another glass 90 mins later and I found it a little past prime. (1960 views)
Tasted by RJ&JJ on 12/29/2017 & rated 94 points: SUPERB wine. If you got it, now is the time to drink it. Extremely well balanced, lovely mouth-feel, great finish. It could use a bit more nose, but CDPs of this vintage don't tend to have a great nose.
Too bad it is our last bottle of 2005 CDP from Perrin!
I don't see this getting any better. I don't think it is sliding downhill, but it is at its peak. (2423 views)
Tasted by Vinovelo on 11/18/2017 & rated 91 points: Beautiful dark cherry fruit with lingering end - drink now. (2562 views)
Tasted by Escher Cellars on 3/16/2017 & rated 91 points: - Garnet color and aromas of strawberry, cherry and dusty and has flavours of strawberry, raisin and burnt toast - Cherry-earth flavors, opened-up very nicely after 3-4 hours, quite nice CdP for the price. Drink now! Cheers. (3338 views)
Tasted by Poisey on 2/11/2017 & rated 93 points: Cloves, raspberry and strawberry fruit, so enticing it just draws you in to the glass. Medium-Long finish with white pepper and black olive notes. Lean in a good way. Elegant with ample acidity and great balance. Drinking great right now. Don't wait too long, 2017-2019. (3143 views)
Tasted by dkfinancial on 1/13/2017 & rated 88 points: Tannins have resolved. Smooth and velvety texture. Aromas & flavours - all raspberry ganache (one-dimensional) with a bit of garrigue. Not very complex or gamey - and I'm not convinced the fruit will hold up when the secondaries really emerge. Paid $35 CAD and it's not worth a penny more. Much more complexity with other producers, like Grand Veneur, for $10 more a bottle. I stopped buying Les Sinards in 2006 and don't regret that decision one bit. (3256 views)
Tasted by dankrems on 12/22/2016 & rated 90 points: Bret was dominant when first poured. Decanted for 3 hours. Still noticeable Bret, but less intense. Palate of earth, wet stone, cherry kirsch, some leather and a hint of dry herbs. An ok wine and good value for $25, but not integrated and harmonious like a CdP big boy. (2521 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 12/2/2016 & rated 88 points: Mostly CdP (Dr. M's in Ohio City): A Brett Bomb. This was approaching my outer limits and I like Brett. For some, it was too much. Of course, each bottle will be different. Still, I would not be buying this on the open market. The nose, besides the primate cage at the zoo notes, has some cherries. On the palate, the brett is there but less noticeable. Cherries, slightly drying tannins. It also has a nice complexity to it at this point. Plenty of structure. I would think cleaner bottles of this would show a few points better. A wine with plenty of faults but lots of good stuff going on as well. It averages out, but I will take this over a generic 88 point wine. (3289 views)
Tasted by SMagowan on 6/23/2016 & rated 89 points: Drank over several days. Not a great deal better than a good CDR with a nice deep purple color. A bit too much graphite and not enough herbs or dirt. 88 - 90. (2299 views)
Tasted by DavidWong168 on 5/3/2016 & rated 92 points: Was so disappointed by a flabby bottle I opened earlier tonight that I was compelled to open another that I know had some reliable structure. This did not let me down. Dark opaque ruby. Intense flavors of black plums, blackberries, lavender, woody musk, earth, rosemary and white pepper. Extremely masculine and nuanced. Medium+ acid and supple tannins. Focused and inviting finish. Wish I had more in the cellar. (2379 views)
Tasted by wine4ever on 2/17/2016 & rated 91 points: Still in prime drinking window. Lovely dark ruby red - just a touch of browning on the edge. Medium bodied, lots of red fruit (currant and cherry) with some briary and mineral undertones. Ends with a bit of tartness. Drink by 2020. (2526 views)
Tasted by 41hijinx on 9/1/2015 & rated 90 points: High neck fill and cork in great shape. Faint browning in glass. Excellent fruit and a very well made wine. Alcohol of 14% under control. A few tiny particles of sediment. Absolutely at peak now. Fortunately I have two more bottles. (Purchased in 2010 for $23.99). (3064 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 8/22/2015 & rated 89 points: Pleasant but thin mid-palate. Pales in comparison to the benchmark producers. (2883 views)
Tasted by Meneley on 7/12/2015: Moved to drink now. Balsamic vinegar nose. Finish is slightly oxidized and wine is over the hill. LO (2595 views)
Tasted by vino_per_tutti on 6/23/2015 & rated 89 points: Not much has changed since the last bottle. Still lots of grenache, sage and funk on the nose; strawberry, red fruits, metal and some pepper on the palate. A little simple, but hits the right notes. (2330 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
