| Community Tasting Notes (average 92.4 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 5 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Biggsy on 11/3/2022 & rated 93 points: Lay & Wheeler Italy Growers' Tasting: Brief notes: Very pale colour. A little herby on the nose. The palate is lovely - starts delicate, lifts and floral then hits with the tannins. Good length. (379 views) | | Tasted by skurtz on 6/8/2022 & rated 92 points: Double decanted for 4-5h. Huge nose of strawberries. On the palate bright strawberries, raspberries, and cherries, some baking spices, muted oak, tannins, and a long smooth finish. Easy to drink for such as young barbaresco, tonight paired with beef brisket and bbq sauce.
Left it in the decanter overnight, on day two most of the tannins have resolved, still plenty of fruit and spices. Just as tasty as Day 1. (461 views) | | Tasted by skurtz on 5/28/2022 & rated 92 points: Tasted at the winery. More feminine and approachable than the normale. Smooth clean floral red fruit, tannins and spices. 91/92 (412 views) |

| Castello di Neive Producer websiteNebbioloNebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.
Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.
"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.
Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
