Tasted by Janda_42 on 4/15/2024 & rated 92 points: Aired for 40 minutes.

Eye: Medium purple center to medium ruby rim.

Nose: Salted pretzels. Prunes, red fruits. Light toasty oak. Rich Cassis, a little graphite, a little caramel. Bit of tobacco.

Palate: Lightish tannin. Good acidity. Cherry kirsch. A little soy sauce. Dark chocolate, some almond.

Finish: Medium length. Dried cherries. Some cacao powder. Little bit of tart fruit. Bloody meat. (1000 views)
Tasted by bitdrerik on 4/12/2024 & rated 89 points: Eðalklúbbur. Vínsmakk apríl 2024. (Marbakkabraut 12): Loftað í sex tíma. Hefði þurft meiri loftun.
Liturinn er í ljósari kantinum.
Oxunartónar í nefi. Ferskur ilmur.
(829 views)
Tasted by BMarsden on 12/24/2023 & rated 92 points: Really good and improved with time. Tannins at first but became very very good. Drank Xmas eve with a lava and Italian cab. (1870 views)
Tasted by Gruffalius on 11/17/2023 & rated 92 points: Pretty smooth, gentle tannins. Almost a sweetness to it. (2126 views)
Tasted by GuWin on 11/1/2023 & rated 92 points: BYO USA (Centropa, Oslo, Norway): Dyp mørk farge med lilla kant. (2437 views)
Tasted by Millennial Drinkers on 8/31/2023 & rated 91 points: Deep ruby red in appearance. Quite a bit of perfume and herbal notes on the nose with dried lavender, cedar and black tea. Medium body with medium tannins (6/10). A more elegant Napa Cabernet with red cherries, sage and earthiness. Long finish. Drink till 2030. (2898 views)
Tasted by Starnes on 7/5/2023 & rated 91 points: Great cab to pair with filet mignon (2977 views)
Tasted by Drdredel on 6/19/2023 & rated 92 points: Great, easy drinking, and enjoyable now. Dark red and black fruits, baking spice... very approachable (2485 views)
Tasted by Starnes on 4/30/2023 & rated 93 points: A great cab. Paired well with seafood and steak dinner (2646 views)
Tasted by Jimaronson on 4/26/2023 & rated 92 points: I was hoping this wine would be better since it is not made each year. I was a bit disappointed. The wine was pleasant, but I was hoping it would pull above its weight. Unfortunately, it was not a sleeper. I would give this another year and see if opens up a bit more. (2602 views)
Tasted by Mark1npt on 4/25/2023 & rated 92 points: Brought to tonight's blind event by JA after a 1 hour slow ox and 2 hour decant. Powerful, but weird or hard to place nose at first. It changed a lot over its first hour open at the table. Nothing muted about it compared to a few of the other wines from tonight. At times I got brown butter, spice, sage and some grapey jelly characteristics. Others were cotton candy and then finally some menthol component. Deep, dark garnet in the glass. Initially red fruited, juicy with some licorice. With more airtime in glass a little sweet caramel emerged. This wine was pretty well balanced but just seemed to have a few odd moments with the nose and palate. Maybe it needed even more air? I don't know. Curious to know if any of the fruit came from Martha's and if that was what was responsible for the menthol notes early on? 91 at the start for me, finished at a 93 so averaging my score out to a 92. A fun wine to play with through the night.

Addendum: a moderate glass left in the bottle on the counter overnight, no cork so now about 26-27 hours of total air at room temp of 73 degrees between yesterday's decant and all night/today in open bottle. Nose of dark red/black fruit with the slightest touch of graphite. Palate is smooth on the tongue with dark pomegranate like fruit and a pleasant, tart cherry ending. The acidity is balanced nicely with it and reinforces the balanced ending. There is a little sweet tobacco note and a little spice component, as well otherwise the palate is a little muted this second day. I still like this wine and it's held its 92 score for the 2nd day.  Tasted by Icemn21 on 4/23/2023 & rated 94 points: Beautiful! Powerful, fragrant nose. Big fruit but it somehow doesn’t cover up the minerality, earthy and spice notes Fine tannins well integrated alrwady (2006 views)
Tasted by bardle on 4/20/2023 & rated 92 points: Graphite, chocolate, black cherry, plum, well integrated tannins, m- acid, m+ length, solid cab, drinking very well right now. (1979 views)
Tasted by Marc S on 2/24/2023 & rated 95 points: - Garnet color with slow forming legs and aromas of blackberry, raspberry and strawberry. It's in total harmony and has flavours of black currant and chocolate with a medium/full body. Satin-Like texture with a medium finish - A real fruit bomb. Lots of strawberries and black fruit. Perfectly balance with a beautiful nose. (2378 views)

Tasted by qtsam11 on 12/24/2022 & rated 92 points: Drank with Christmas Eve dinner of prime rib, so was not paying too close of attention. But, tannins are smooth and well integrated. Red fruits throughout and still quite primary. Pulled this bottle to see how it was going and so far so good. Will sit on others for several more years so those secondary and tertiary aromas flavors have time to develop. But, this is drinking quite well now and paired quite well with the beef (not surprisingly). Overall, this is quite well made and not a bombastic, over the top, over-extracted Napa wine; it is much more old world in style, particularly compared to the base Heitz offering. (2830 views)
Tasted by Giggs on 11/18/2022 & rated 95 points: Wines You Dream Of (Miller Gallery, Cincinnati, Ohio): Young but very expressive already. Black fruit, tea, wet stone, fine-grained tannins, tons of fruit power to uncoil. (3709 views)
Tasted by whits on 10/16/2022 & rated 93 points: Pours a crimson red in the glass, opens up with some air, scents of fresh field berries and lavender develop, tannin is fine as silk, bright, delicious, and balanced, structured and complex, medium to full body with layers of cherry, currant, blackberry, Indian tea, plum and spice on the palate, drinks well now with good potential to age, captures the house style in elegant form, spectacular match with rib-eye steak (3936 views)
Tasted by Chris on 9/4/2022 & rated 94 points: bright red color, incredible aroma, very nice, well worth the price (3814 views)
Tasted by jonh1 on 8/26/2022 & rated 92 points: Classic Heitz. Bright fruit, energetic, medium body with plus acid, herbaceous. Certainly ready to drink, but if possible, hold for 10 years. (3458 views)
Tasted by Delvis on 8/13/2022 & rated 92 points: Very nice. Bright and fruity, yet not tight. I do believe this will mature extremely well. (2330 views)
Tasted by Shavedaddy on 7/30/2022: I can't really score this bottle. This is one that I found unremarkable the first night as a simple PnP. But I knew (hoped) there had to be more here, so I've been taking my time getting around to finishing it. At first, I really only noticed how fine, silky and well-integrated the tannins are. About 3-4 days after opening, I'm finally getting that rich cabernet currant. The tannins remain silky. Balance is incredible. Decanting is a must imo, or just be patient sit on this one for a few years if you really want that QPR. (3514 views)
Tasted by Acove on 6/12/2022 & rated 95 points: Just wow. Best wine I've had to date. Writing from memory. Had about 30mins-1hr of air time. On the nose, just extremely decadent and rich oak-chocolate, vanilla, cedar. Also a complex mix of black and red fruit-cassis, blackberry, black cherry. Still so young the oak was very dominant but so obviously high quality. On the palate, the attack blew me away, just extreme concentration and depth of fruit with only a medium + body, elegant and powerful simultaneously. Towards the midpalate the acid and tannin start to come in, I would say actually high acid and medium + tannin. Huge structure that some may find unpleasant-this definitely needs time. A very sharp and elegant finish of red cherry and acid. As time went on, the finish extended a bit and the structure calmed down. If you want to drink now, it needs 2 hours of decant minimum and expect to deal with some intense structure. But I would recommend letting this sit at least 2 if not 5-10 years. It has the potential for decades of aging. Bravo Heitz, definitely hope to try some of their more expensive bottlings at some point. (3587 views)
Tasted by Thirsty1 on 6/11/2022: Really enjoyed this. Dark berries, hints of minerality and stone supporting. More bordeaux styled that's reserved and slightly thinner style than I'm used to from Heitz. There's an elegance there not usually seen from Napa Cabs. Well composed and accessible, it's great on it's own or with food. At 6 years old it is fantastic, but this wine has many years ahead of it so don't feel the need to rush. (3359 views)
Tasted by Badmonkey on 6/9/2022 & rated 93 points: Picked this up at a local store on sale in light of the 96 rating from Suckling. According to the Winery, sourced from treasured parcels in Western Oakville, Eastern Rutherford, Southeast Howell Mountain, and the foothills of St. Helena and represents a greater step up in quality from their Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark ruby fruit - dark cherry, currants, blackberry, and some plum. Smooth mid-palate but a lighter profile than expected - medium body. More of a classic/somewhat old world profile - if tasted blind I would have bet a Bordeaux. Nice flavors of dark berries, some spice/herbs, and a little mineral component. However, the finish was a little tart/tannic. Decanted for two hours on day one and it wasn’t enough - again, a little tart/tannic. Revisited on day two and there was some improvement - the tartness did subside. In my opinion, closer to the 93 rating from WS on day two - 92/93. 100% cab. (4132 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
