Based on other comments on this wine, I have to wonder if I drank the same wine. The label tells me I did. The wine is very clean throughout. Modest mouthfeel and aftertaste. (957 views) | | Tasted by Neras on 6/10/2023 & rated 95 points: This is awesome! Balanced. Fruity. Fresh and deep. Looooonnnng taste. Clearly Carlisle , but with a deeper tone than the Zins. (1193 views) | | Tasted by RSCurry on 3/20/2023: not sure how to score wines yet, first time on this site. Wine drank well, decanted for about 30 minutes. Very good for a blend! (1373 views) | | Tasted by Mike Dildine on 9/7/2022 & rated 93 points: An excellent Two Acre! (1891 views) | | Tasted by BobMilton on 7/3/2022 & rated 90 points: Reminds me of a field blended Zinfandel without the Zin. Very similar though. (1578 views) | | Tasted by Dionysusx on 5/22/2022 & rated 95 points: Bold and gamy yet bright and silky. Smoke, licorice, cracked pepper, fresh herbs and subtle earth notes. Decanted 2 hours. Could use more air but no less outstanding right now. Wish I had more than 2 bottles. Phenomenal wine, as expected. (1594 views) | | Tasted by Matt Scott on 4/3/2022 & rated 94 points: Opened for two hours. Gorgeous plums, sweet cherries, raspberries, licorice, stone and cedar. Fine tannins, and a plush, full body. The texture on the back end is almost creamy. This sails on and this remains refined throughout. Drinking very well today, this will still age rather well. I am reminded of how we need more Mourvèdre in Sonoma County. It is suited here. Drink now - 2034. (1966 views) | | Tasted by Mike Dildine on 3/23/2022 & rated 93 points: 14.6% abv. Medium burgundy red, plus aromatics. On the palate, ripe plum, white pepper, mint and sage. Good depth and length. Always an interesting wine - and delicious too. Should continue to improve over the next 3-8 years. (1666 views) |

2019 Carlisle Two AcresRelease Letter:
Two Acres hails from the remaining two acres of what was once a much larger vineyard planted in 1910. This is where it all began for me, where I found my love for nurturing and protecting historic vineyards and where I became interested in ampelography, the field of identifying vine varieties through their physical characteristics. Originally, I was told the vineyard was old-vine Zinfandel but after a bit of homework, I discovered it was mostly Mourvèdre with bits of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Peloursin, Carignan, and Alicante Bouschet. And yes, there were indeed five Zinfandel vines. Picked October 19th, given the stem maturity (i.e., the stems were highly lignified), we opted for a bit more whole cluster than usual, 33% to be exact. Twenty-six days on the skins. Aged in all French Oak, 18% new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note: Medium ruby-garnet. Cherry Jolly Ranchers, cedar, and a whiff of old rose vie for attention in the nose. On the palate, flavors of cherry, red licorice, and smoked game as only Two Acres can provide. As usual, very creamy in texture with a long, mildly tannic finish. Such an elegant, graceful, and unique wine. This is truly a California original! While enjoyable now, given its exceptional balance, this will age and develop gracefully for up to 15 years from vintage date.Carlisle Two AcresTwo Acres – Russian River Valley
A true gem in Sonoma County! There is little old-vine Mourvèdre in Sonoma County. Yet, here we have two acres of predominantly mourvèdre planted in 1910. Other varieties planted include Petite Sirah (10%), Syrah (6%), Carignane (4%), Peloursin (3%), and Alicante Bouschet (2%). There are also a few zinfandel vines in addition to nine whites of a variety called Helena (a white cross of Zinfandel and Mondeuse Noir).
This vineyard was on the brink of death when we took it over in 1996 but slowly and surely we have brought it back to life. We completed its renovation in 2003 by replacing all missing vines. Most of the replants were Mourvèdre but we did include a few syrah vines.Red Rhone Blend Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyRussian River Valley Russian River Valley Winegrowers Association | Wikipedia |
