Community Tasting Notes (average 89.1 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 11 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by DougSamuel on 3/7/2023 & rated 89 points: Muted raspberry and cranberry along with woodsy, cedar nose and flavor. Overall this is more savory and sagebrush than fruity. Not bad, but not something I'd reach for again. (1255 views)
Tasted by z_willus_d on 2/3/2023 & rated 88 points: I wasn't sold on this Turley Zin on the initial glass pour on the first night open, but this improved significantly on nights 2 and 3. The wine definitely is well structured, and maybe there some kind of Mission grape hiding in there. Whatever the case, it was a little goofy at first but ultimately an enjoyable Turley Zin with the typical fine balance on display. I expect this will be better in 3-5 years. The fruit was not a highlight, but the structure, balance, and length and acidity were all aligned. (1091 views)
Tasted by NateR on 1/29/2023 & rated 89 points: Structured but elegant, at least for an Amador zinfandel. Needs some time to breathe after opening. Pencil shavings; not much fruit, though there is some. Well balanced and versatile, but not the most complex or interesting. (1132 views)
Tasted by yatchisin on 10/28/2022 & rated 89 points: For Turley, a slightly less complex zin, but still deep dark berry fruit and some spice. (1271 views)
Tasted by AndrewSGHall on 9/24/2022 & rated 88 points: There is some Mission hiding in here! Solid, but not special - this is the first vintage and it feels overall like a trial balloon with loose edges and a general puffiness. Blackberry. A good brightness on entry and then soft finish that fades to a bit generic. (1321 views)
Tasted by Lobster27 on 9/5/2022: Delicious juicy and acid well balanced Zin (701 views)
Tasted by ebert on 7/9/2022 & rated 91 points: Good solid Zin with average complexity (818 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
