The first sip imparts an unexpected effervescence - in retrospect, I wish we had served the bottle a bit cooler. On the palate, the juicy red fruit initially could come off as jammy, but is quickly balanced by the pleasant tannins and acidity (and, refreshingly, the lack of oak). Overall, pretty well-rounded.
This wine is both interesting and fun to drink, at the price point I could see it becoming a "go-to" during the summertime or when sharing with larger groups. After that hour, the off-putting natty notes fade and reveal sweet, inky dark fruit along with gentle brett and licorice.
It’s hot at 14% and has a bit of noticeable RS. Despite not usually liking wines with this level of extraction, the moderate tannin and acid provide just enough backbone to not make this feel syrupy. Great with food on a cold day. (302 views) | | Tasted by dnlng on 12/17/2022 & rated 90 points: Very unique nose exhibiting wet forest, barn and herbal aromas. Natural wine with slight fizz and dark fruits. Very fun and intriguing to drink! (272 views) | | Tasted by Sven D on 7/7/2022 & rated 87 points: Onverwachts degelijk. (427 views) |
