Tasted by Old Joe on 8/14/2017 & rated 92 points: Still drinking good. A year ago i thought it was at its peak but it keeps getting better. (1615 views)
Tasted by TJK on 11/12/2016 & rated 92 points: Loving this. Wish we had more. Soft and supple tannins, some nice vanilla hints, with a long finish. (1666 views)
Tasted by Old Joe on 9/15/2016 & rated 92 points: Still has some fruit getting close to its peak. Lovely wine (1671 views)
Tasted by TJK on 1/31/2016 & rated 93 points: Really drinking nicely. Got this wine on my first visit to C & B over 10 years ago. Well worth the wait. Still a lot of fruit, nice chocolate nuances and firm smooth tannins. (1851 views)
Tasted by spts1000 on 1/1/2016 & rated 94 points: Wow. I was totally surprised how alive and vibrant this wine was. There was structure and lots of dark red fruit. Really a wonderful surprise for us. I have another bottle that I would love to try next year, but not sure I can wait. Also, the cork shredded a little when I was trying to open it which made me a bit concerned, but no issues whatsoever. (2035 views)
Tasted by Coachron13 on 1/17/2015 & rated 90 points: Starts out kind of funky when first opened, improves a lot after an hour or two, then declines after that. Better drink them now if you have them, won't last much longer. (1204 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 7/7/2013 & rated 93 points: Ripe black and blueberry fruit, modest bricking. Perfect silky mouthfeel, the finest satiny coating. Aged tobacco, more ripe blue fruit, very sweet finish, this is in perfect balance right now. Last bottle was six months ago and I thought it was perfect then; still in the heart of its window, I'd peg remaining bottles to drink within a year. Great wine, unfortunately continued price-hikes will likely have me steer away from this property when bargains can't be found. (1824 views)
Tasted by Jmaclenn on 6/23/2013 & rated 95 points: Just gets better and better (1638 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 12/20/2012 & rated 93 points: Slight bricking on the edge, rich black and blue berry aromas. Medium+ in weight, great balance between dark fruit flavors, saddle and cedar. Still has perfect depth and richness for its age - in the heart of its drinking window, this is a real winner. (1715 views)
Tasted by WilliamF17 on 10/17/2012 & rated 84 points: Appearance: Dark, opaque, Purple Red, Bright = 4
Bouquet: Wood, Berry Fruit, light raisin; mild vanilla, slight veg / herbal notes = 10
Taste = Medium body, Hot, sharp, mild fruit, berry fruit; medium finish = 11
Preference = More astringent than other vintages, tight and sharp, never really had the fruit of other vintages = 1
In line with other wines in the vintage, pretty good, but not a favorite. (1726 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 7/7/2012 & rated 93 points: Pop and pour, drinking extremely well. Modest oak on the nose along with mature fruit, faint leather and tobacco. Medium-light mouthfeel, blueberries and more faint tobacco. This is in a really nice place and much better than the last bottle. Still plan to drink my remaining bottles within 2 years. (1813 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 6/2/2012 & rated 90 points: Pop and pour from a 375, consumed over 3.5 hours. During the first hour I sensed some brett from this bottle, along with some awkward green notes, but these blew off in time. Soft red fruit and oak are the dominant flavors. The wine lacks depth and is continuing to lose structure as the evening wears on. Slightly beyond its prime but still an enjoyable bottle that is better than my comments suggest. Nonetheless, approach with caution or Drink up. (1327 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 11/1/2011 & rated 92 points: A stellar bottle to accompany a pathetic attempt at a restauring meal. A little more oak on the nose than I'd prefer but otherwise...stellar! (1647 views)
Tasted by psoals on 8/21/2010 & rated 91 points: perfect drinking window, the 03's in general are proving to be solid wines for earlyier drinking. (1170 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 8/11/2010 & rated 91 points: Poured from a 375 into a decanter, and consumed over 2.5 hours. Had some green notes early-on, with oak on the nose and LOTS of sediment in the neck of the bottle. Blueberry, put on some weight since my last tasting of this, sweet fruit and tanins. As much as I enjoy some of the individual flavors, the wine lacks the depth that I recall from earlier vintages. Still enjoyable, will wait another year before hitting the next bottle. (1570 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 9/20/2009 & rated 91 points: Pop and pour. Faint blueberry, fine tanins. Mediium to leight in weight. (1774 views)
Tasted by hudamang on 7/9/2009 & rated 90 points: Really tight right now but opens up after 2 hour decant. Still lots of dark jammy fruit and a finish that lasts 30+ seconds. Delicious! (1898 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 2/3/2009 & rated 92 points: The first 45 mins put this through a Vinturi, then right out of the bottle. Great wine. Nose is black and blue fruit; incredibley well-balanced flavors of cedar, blueberry, plum jam, anise. Very approachable and enjoyable. (1813 views)
Tasted by Sandyshoe30@gmail.com on 8/4/2008: very nice bouquet, opened up nicely, finish smooth (2156 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 5/11/2008 & rated 92 points: Pop and pour from a .375. Never seemed to close down as with the 750. Very nice wine. (1955 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 4/4/2008 & rated 92 points: Pop and pour. Nice right out of the bottle, this seemed to be closing down after about 90mins, but another 45 mins and this just seemed thinner and a bit one-dimensional. Curious to see how this developls, I believe this will improve over the coming 2-4 years. A very nice wine that seemed worth the $50 close-put price, but probably not worth release retail. (1981 views)
Tasted by hudamang on 8/4/2007 & rated 92 points: Mmmm!! Nice creamyness from the oak. Not overdone but lots of dark black sweet fruit combined with cinammon and spice. The finish lasts a long long time. Served this with a nice 18 oz prime rib. THe sweetness and power of this wine cuts down the fat. Excellent wine! (2211 views)
Tasted by hudamang on 4/23/2007 & rated 92 points: Had again. Once again, the nose is great. Dark cherries and lots of chocolate! The palate is dark cherries with dark chocolate. Maybe blueberry pie with Ben n Jerry's cherry garcia ice cream. So good! Would pair really well with some fat steak. Needs about 2-3 more years. If they can make this taste THIS good in a tough vintage, can't imagine what they can do in a good vintage. Delicious. (2248 views)
Tasted by hudamang on 3/27/2007 & rated 92 points: This was delicious. Had it at the FPWM VIP party. Nice dark purple color. Even though it was served in these tiny glasses, the nose erupted from the glass. Sweet dark fruit mixed with good vanilla. No overwhelming oak present in this wine. The fruit really shines with dark cherries and chocolate and a finish that is like creamy blueberry pie. Slightly pricey but for an off vintage like 03, they did an amazing job. (2301 views)

2003 Crocker & Starr Stone Place Cuvée

From Napa Wine Co's Website: Pam Starr created Crocker & Starr wines by forming a partnership with a historic vineyard in St. Helena – A place of diverse soil profiles a history of winemaking dating back to 1870’s. The opportunity to redesign old vines and plant the future vines from the ground up by matching soil, stock, and climate hit home with her expertise – a partnership between the historic vineyard and herself was born.

Tasting Notes:

Deep and broad flavors of dark chocolate and ripe blackberry fringed with exotic mineral and soil flavors and textures. The palate is silky and creamy yet has a depth in core that is not typical of the 2003 vintage. Powerful and elegance all wrapped into one beautiful bottle.

Aged in French Oak for 20 months, 70% new.
84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot
Cases Produced: 594

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
