Community Tasting Notes (average 87.7 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 14 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Jwd12 on 8/25/2014 & rated 88 points: Dark deep red. Nose had cherry and cranberry and a little menthol. Taste had cherry earthy leather and coffee. Smooth and balanced a good food wine would serve with seafood (1402 views)
Tasted by diggydan on 7/28/2012 & rated 89 points: Dark red color. Medium body but light mouthfeel. Nose of black fruit with the slightest touch of alcoholic heat. Starts off smooth with some fruit, mid-palate brings some acidity, and a relatively long finish is punctuated with a note of spice from the syrah in the blend. (2084 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 4/24/2011 & rated 87 points: 2011 Easter Potluck (Chez Ginny, San Carlos, California): Dark cherry red color; carbonic maceration, cranberry, red berry nose; tart red fruit, carbonic maceration, stems, green herb palate; medium-plus finish (1160 views)
Tasted by MDRwinos on 3/27/2010 & rated 91 points: Given other reviews, had low expectations which were easily surpassed. Very smooth, not too fruit forward but still present. Good balance. Not a long finish but pleasant to the palate. Would definitely drink another bottle if we had one. (2573 views)
Tasted by Terran23 on 7/30/2009: Was a bit disappointed with this. Did not represent Flowers as I know it. I'll take this as a one off and still consider Flowers as a solid Pinot house. (3102 views)
Tasted by al-Zabba on 1/24/2009: Easy drinking pinot. I can see this as more of a cocktail wine than paired, however. Strange blend of pinot, syrah, and chard...eh, nice enough. (2728 views)
Tasted by jivey on 11/15/2008 & rated 86 points: FINEs T-DAY wines - Red fruits, cherry, violets hot big style. (1244 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 11/15/2008 & rated 86 points: "Wines for the Holiday Table" Tasting (Fine's Cellar, Scottsdale): Raspberry, cherry and earth. Good depth but unfortunately a touch hot on the finish. (2367 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 10/22/2008 & rated 88 points: Ruby color. Raspberry nose. Tastes of black cherry, blackberry, pepper and earth. Very different than the 2005 and less Pinot like. Medium bodied. Good acidity. Rich finish with a little heat peeking through as it warms in the glass which is surprising with its 14.1% alcohol level. (1271 views)
Tasted by pinotluvr on 8/5/2008 & rated 87 points: Not much there. (1630 views)
Tasted by bigdavemdphd on 5/17/2008 & rated 88 points: Solid Pinot with some added flesh form the mixture. Not profound but good to drink. (1596 views)
Tasted by bigdavemdphd on 2/29/2008 & rated 88 points: Solid cherry and strawberry flavors with some mild acidity. Smooth on the palate with a hint of smokiness. (1437 views)
Tasted by bigdavemdphd on 2/21/2008 & rated 88 points: WOnderful nose of cherries and flowers; a touch of smokiness as well. The flavors are extremely fruity somewhat reminding me of rose champagne, but not so dry. Not a particularly complex wine and maybe a notch down from previous vintages. Quited enjoyable. Flowers

Producer website

As nursery owners in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Walt and Joan Flowers had long dreamed of combining their love of wine with their passion for agriculture. They knew they wanted to produce their favorite varietals, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir; what they didn’t know was that their path would eventually lead them across country to Northern California’s rugged Sonoma Coast. After responding to a small classified ad in a national wine publication, that’s exactly where they landed.

In 1989, after many information-gathering trips to Napa and Sonoma, Walt and Joan purchased 321 acres, including a ridge top, high above the Pacific Ocean on the northern Sonoma Coast. With the same determination they drew on to build their successful nursery business; the Flowers proceeded with the dream of producing their favorite cool-climate varietals in a place they believed uniquely suited to growing them.

Today, Flowers Winery produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from its two estate properties, Camp Meeting Ridge Vineyard and Sea View Ridge Vineyard, as well as select vineyards in the coolest regions of the Sonoma Coast AVA, which are farmed to Flowers’ specifications by their own crews. In addition to direct consumer sales, the wines are sold to fine restaurants and retailers in the US and overseas.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
