Tasted by The Drunken Cyclist on 12/22/2023 & rated 89 points: Retail $55. Big Ass Bottle. Oak fermented. 100% Malolactic. While there is a bit of information on this wine online, I do have an open question: what percentage of the oak barrels used were new? This is kind of important since the oak is rather present here, both on the nose and the palate. While that is not necessarily a bad thing (actually, not at all in my book), I am just curious as to what the wine team was looking for here. Said oak is at the forefront of the nose, along with some golden delicious apple, ripe peach, and a decided saltiness. On the palate, once again, the oak asserts itself first and all the way through the mid palate and on to the finish. Some fruit peaks through at various points, but, well, this is heavy on the oak. Personally? I really like this wine but I feel like all that wood is hiding the (I assume) gorgeous Sangiacomo fruit underneath. 89 Points.

Tasted by Odedis.Wine.reviews on 8/28/2023 & rated 92 points: Dark yellow in color with a golden tint.

Full bodied with medium acidity.

Nice fruity nose of white flowers, citrus, apples, light oak, light vanilla and spices.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing yellow apples, pears, light earth, cedar, herbs, vanilla, light alcohol, spices and light honey.

Nice finish with light white pepper and almonds.

This is a delicious oaky Chardonnay from Carneros. Elegant and spicy. Rich and engaging. Neither bitter nor tart.

This Single vineyard is easy drinking and good by itself. Better after 45 minutes of airtime.

Showing some sweet notes on the palate, but it's dry (0.4 grams per liter residual sugar).

A good sipping wine, and a nice party wine too.

I paired it with a nice day on the beach. Paired nicely with a simple Muenster cheese and a beautiful view.

100% Chardonnay grapes, from the Sonoma side of Los Carneros AVA, were fermented and aged in oak barrels for 8 months. A very small production of only 3 barrels.

14.7% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 8/2/2023 & rated 91 points: Rich yellow color. The nose is juicy and deep with apricot and orange marmalade, some lemon curd, honeyed biscuits, but also it has these breezy, floral vibes, with tropical flowers, daisies, and dandelion. The palate shows pleasant creaminess and ripeness but it is nuanced and shows vibrant acidity, with flavors of pear butter, orange marmalade, and bruised yellow apples. The notes of almond, biscuits, whipped honey, and dried mango are nuanced and delicious, and there’s no overbearing oak. A clear, ripe but vibrant finish with notes of minerals and chalk dust over top of biscuit dough. Delicious. (118 views)

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Napa / Sonoma

SONOMA: The Yorkville Highlands AVA, approved in 1998, is located in the southwestern corner of Mendocino County, between Sonoma County's Alexander Valley to the South and Mendocino County!s Anderson Valley to the North. The region is 25 miles long, roughly in the shape of rectangle and bisected by Highway 128 which runs the length of the AVA. The region!s terrain is hilly and forested, with elevations ranging from 1,078 to 2,442 feet above sea level.
The distinguishing features of the Yorkville Highlands AVA are rocky soils with a high gravel content and the climate, which is cooler than Alexander Valley but warmer than Anderson Valley, and significantly cooler at night than the surrounding areas.
