Tasted by Bhohne on 12/26/2013 & rated 90 points: Decanted 1hr. Best merlot in a while! (3288 views)
Tasted by snarfglk on 7/14/2013 & rated 88 points: Good, but on its way downhill. (3510 views)
Tasted by Wino Laurie on 5/2/2013 & rated 89 points: Better than average every day Merlot: lots of red fruit, soft tannin with pleasant finish. Worried about holding this long, but it was fine and benefited from aging. (3654 views)
Tasted by hoservin on 2/17/2013 & rated 88 points: Aerated with Vinturi and decanted for one hour. Aromas of red currant, red cherry, vanilla, plum and spice. Red cherry, spice and soft tannins lead to a medium length, smooth finish. Medium bodied. Paired with chicken pomodoro. (2528 views)
Tasted by dcasper on 11/29/2012 & rated 84 points: A good everyday merlot (2382 views)
Tasted by vfsi on 8/18/2012 & rated 90 points: A very nice Merlot. Red Fruit smell and taste. Soft tannins on the finish. The wine really opened up with decanting. (2280 views)
Tasted by jperez68 on 2/8/2012 & rated 92 points: This is one of my favorite Merlots I cant wait to taste the 2007. (2353 views)
Tasted by kbhiggins on 2/6/2012 & rated 90 points: Great...for about an hour. Rich and full bodied Merlot. Some cherry cola on the nose. After an hour, it started to fade and fall a little flat. This was my last bottle. Not sure I would hold on to this one much longer. (2202 views)
Tasted by jperez68 on 12/30/2011 & rated 92 points: Kara loves this wine. (2287 views)
Tasted by Joel Suskin on 11/25/2011 & rated 88 points: Very full but a littly fruity for me. (2272 views)
Tasted by dekay on 4/28/2011 & rated 88 points: A bit better than my last bottle. Vanilla and fruit on the nose. Solid medium body but no especially distinguishing flavors; good acidity, still a touch overly tannic and a bit more heat than ideal. Will be better in a year or two. (2498 views)
Tasted by wadcorp on 4/16/2011 & rated 89 points: Rich nose. Deep purple color. Decant/aeration about 30 minutes before pouring. Not "big fruit" as some have mentioned. Nice balance of fruit, with notes of dark berries & cherry, some anise, mocha & oak. Also not getting the high alcohol others noted. (2789 views)
Tasted by Daddycross on 4/15/2011 & rated 93 points: Excellent bottle (1277 views)
Tasted by Daddycross on 4/15/2011 & rated 92 points: Mmmmmmm (1316 views)
Tasted by Mdotmurphy on 4/9/2011 & rated 86 points: Blackberry, tannins, weak nose (2733 views)
Tasted by Arch57 on 1/30/2011 & rated 88 points: Drank one glass as a pop and pour but it really needed some time to warm up from cellar temp (which in January in Connecticut is about 47 degrees) (3166 views)
Tasted by dekay on 1/27/2011 & rated 87 points: A simple but enjoyable merlot, sweet red fruit nose, a little thin on the palate but still had some roundness and flesh to it, shortish finish. (3226 views)
Tasted by mikev101 on 1/23/2011 & rated 91 points: One of my favorite Merlots. 15 minute decant and drinking wonderfully now. (3379 views)
Tasted by kingboo on 1/14/2011 & rated 92 points: Nice dark fruit with a touch of smokiness. Well made. You will enjoy. (3329 views)
Tasted by kbhiggins on 11/21/2010 & rated 90 points: Consistently excellent. One of our favorite Merlots. Ready to go right out of the bottle. (3653 views)
Tasted by jcbrand on 11/14/2010 & rated 90 points: This wine couldn't be much more New World if it tried. Huge jammy fruit, toasty mocha from the kiss of oak, and as thick as whole milk. Better on night 2. If I tasted this blind I would have probably guessed a CA petite syrah, not merlot. I enjoyed this and would buy again. (3865 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 10/24/2010 & rated 89 points: Some big fruit with black cherry, mocha, and currant flavors. Ends with a decent finish. (1027 views)
Tasted by 3daywinereview.com on 9/20/2010 & rated 92 points: Even better than the 05. Beautiful nose of floral, cherry, spice and plum. Firm tannins and the wine got better over the course of the night with cherry, plum, floral, minerals and oak. This is one of my favorite Merlot wines for the price. (3965 views)

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
