Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 87.8 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 17 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by easyB on 6/23/2017 & rated 86 points: Expectations were modest, so the fact that it was drinkable was a surprise. Clean nose but faint. On the palate it had an indistinct, earthy flavour, like an aging vin ordinaire. Still drinkable but not much more. (1179 views)
Tasted by cmahy on 3/5/2017 & rated 90 points: Notes of cherry candy on the nose, definitely rich fruit and cherry on the finish. This '05 mellowed out perfectly - drank after an hour in the decanter. Time to drink now if anyone has any left. (1269 views)
Tasted by bjlcrucrazy on 10/23/2015 & rated 84 points: Agree with 2 previous reviews. Not much fruit. (1729 views)
Tasted by agraham on 12/17/2012 & rated 88 points: Disappointing. It had a musty note which dominated. It was decanted for at least two hours, which helped mellow the must and tannins, and allowed the fruit to at least be tasted. Med. bodied, med. finish...okay but not worth the money. (3458 views)
Tasted by julius111 on 11/26/2012 & rated 83 points: unbalanced. too much acidity and bitterness with regards to the fruit (3384 views)
Tasted by rexmerlot on 8/25/2012 & rated 88 points: Definitely has improved with age & drinks better with food. Slight corked smell on nose, cranberry and cedar on palate. Would not rush out to buy more, but a nice red from Ontario. (2895 views)
Tasted by rexmerlot on 4/20/2012 & rated 85 points: Upon opening very unimpressed. However, after an hour of two in decanter, and as we progressed with meal it opened up and improved. Not a bad red for Ontario. However, not going to run out and buy allot of this wine for the price. Lots of better reds out there at this price. Will stick with bringing back rieslings and pinots from Ontario. (2733 views)
Tasted by gotanygrapes on 9/3/2011 & rated 88 points: Another fine showing from this Ontario vineyard. While not as complex and balanced as the 2007 this wine should still drink well for the next 5-7 years. (3094 views)
Tasted by WLG at MTL on 4/3/2011 & rated 89 points: Nice bouquet of red berries. Gave two hours to breath. helped elminate hardness. In the end, the a nice glass wine with considerable fruit, yet somewhat short. (2107 views)
Tasted by Ryan D on 11/28/2008: A sweet bouquet of red berries and bell peppers with hints of spices. The nose reminds me somewhat of the 2006 Black Hills Nota Bene, if somewhat less intense. In the mouth, I find this more herbacous than I usually like and slightly austere (perhaps due to the acidity?). I bought one bottle of this wine simply as a trial. On first impressions, I'm not sure I'd buy more, though I'm curious to see whether it shakes that herbaciousness. At the same time, I was tasting this while still recovering somewhat from being ill. That could have had an impact on my impressions and I'm willing to give this another shot. (2466 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.
