| Community Tasting Notes (average 93.9 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 12 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by breadandwine on 1/3/2014 & rated 94 points: Hazy, medium amber colour. Clean, full developed nose. Med+ intensity. Aromas of orange zest, cider, black tea, black olives & hazelnuts. Dry, med+ acidity, med tannins, med alcohol, med body, med+ flavour intensity. Flavours of grapefruit, strong tea, hazelnuts, wild honey, minerals and spices on the finish. Long finish. Outstanding. Very peculiar but in an extremely good way. You can drink it now but the wine has clearly quite some potential for ageing left. (3795 views) | | Tasted by SteveG on 5/20/2012 & rated 92 points: Dead match for strong iced tea. The nose is flowers, cider, a little petrol, orange oil. The palate begins as startlingly tart, but with enough body for a soft landing. This is mostly ripe citrus, a little old wood, and gentle spice, wrapped in considerable acid and rocks, but certainly never seems thin or screechy; the feel is of a soft red wine, very cool. The finish is more like the nose, long and cleansing. (4691 views) | | Tasted by aorazio1 on 5/19/2011 & rated 95 points: Purchased at restaurant and served at cellar temp. Orange hue. Sparkling cider on the nose. Orange zest and tangerine notes. Good structure and acidity. Fantastic food wine. Will seek out in the future. (5878 views) | | Tasted by tarheel17 on 11/11/2010 & rated 93 points: Piedmonte (mostly Barolo) (Michael's): nose: musty, smoky, oxidized (obviously) with turpentine-lite characteristics palate: I could not get over how similar to a red wine this is. Thinner on the palate than expected, given the headiness of the nose, but with dry, ruddy (almost rubber-skid feel) tannin and sherried citrus to end. Fasincating, fantastic, and oh-so easy to pair with food. Amazing stuff. Why is this the first time I've tried it??? (6112 views) | | Tasted by austinwinesalon on 7/11/2010: Lesser Italian White Varietals (Duchman Family Winery Driftwood, Texas): One of the most controversial wines of this 42-bottle bianchi salon, one group declared it oxidized and swamp water, and didn’t go further—this was after it had been opened for more than an hour. But the first tasting group, who opened the bottle, had different thoughts: “oxidized in a good way,” and off went the appreciators of Sherry. With a black herbal tea quality (and the comment, “probably not most people’s cup of tea”), it went great with our braised venison dish. Copper-colored, the wine had a strange nose of sweet gherkin pickle, some called it “home-canned” and “bread and butter” pickle. The palate fruit was baked and oily, with lemon-lime zest, orange peel, baking spice, cardamon, and cinammon. Oxidation in a good way, and in a bad way for some. Orange and white, down here in Austin. (3865 views) | | Tasted by DaleW on 12/10/2009: Very good match with clam pizza! Wine had orange zest, honey, apple skins, watermelon rind. Good acidity, gets brighter as night goes on, has that oxidative thing at first, but that lessens with air (I know that's a bit of a paradox, but what I thought). Nice length, interesting on intellectual level but tasty as hell as well. Fine match with clam pie, ok with other pizza. Cool and interesting wine. B +/A- (2149 views) | | Tasted by admid on 5/29/2009 & rated 96 points: Dark orange yellow Dried fruit, sour plums and oxidized apples on the nose Pure dried apples, a little unclear, perfect structure and balance Very good length
I would not guess that this is a wine made of grapes. Amazing experience, but take into account that I like weird wines. Nose: heavy on orange/tangerine and cinnamon. On the palate: tangerines for days, 45+ sec finish. Cant wait to see how this evolves over the next few years. (2316 views) | | Tasted by nwk on 8/15/2008: Really powerful and piercing nose of orange blossom, tincture and almost indian spices (cardamon?). Really complex wine that opened and evolved in the glass beautifully. This was a pretty powerful wine with driving acidity and palate presence. The flavors are orange-like fruits, maybe tangerines and clementines and lots of exotic spice. This was an enjoyable glass, would love to follow a bottle for a couple of days. (2260 views) |
