Tasted by jkoenen on 3/19/2021 & rated 92 points: YUM!
APnr. 7-08 (1256 views)
Tasted by zhearr on 6/1/2018: developed nose that's a little reminiscent of the 08 Lopez Gravonia from few days ago. Some notes (along the lines of wax?) i interpret as oak, but could just be my mis-calibrated understanding of oak all along. There's still the unmistakable beguiling florality and some pungent minerality, but maybe shown with less clarity compared to a young riesling. Immensely fruity, creamy, concentrated palate. Almost a hedonistic style and a contradictory one because of the acids, that can still make you pucker despite the good amount of sugar. 91-92

was so excited for my first riesling with a good age on it. But side by side with 15 St. Urbans-Hof Ockfener Bockstein Kabinett not sure if i clearly prefer one over the other. (2241 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 4/22/2017 & rated 92 points: This wine had a light yellow center and clear rims. This smelled pretty nice from the first pour. However, it showed a lot more the next day which is a good sign. The high- intensity nose displayed lemon peel, pear, slate, and that riesling funk.

In the mouth, this wine had nice fruit but was relatively light bodied. It had good acidity and some length.

This is a nice wine that will easily last 10 years. However, I doubt it will get better, only different. (3298 views)
Tasted by psi on 5/18/2016 & rated 91 points: Great wine, drinking so well right now, with all the virtues of the vintage. Juicy and bright acidity. Still a quite young profile despite nine years of age. (4917 views)
Tasted by Champagneinhand on 2/17/2014 & rated 92 points: Fantastic wine right now. Paired great with spicy Viet food. Out classed a GC Chablis and out did a '07 Suidurat that followed it up with some Stilton. The Spatlese was sweet, crisp acidity with so many well rounded apple, pear, white peach with white florals exhibited on the nose. The fruits and stony mineral made for a great mouthfeel and a long finish. Sadly this was my last bottle but so good. (7338 views)
Tasted by mzimberg on 9/15/2013 & rated 92 points: Lovely golden. Crisp fall apple aromas. Tangy palate and a very long finish. Wonderful at less than $20 per bottle. (6912 views)
Tasted by Hecht_Pede on 7/13/2013 & rated 89 points: Decent showing but no wow factor just very pleasing and good to drink on a hot summer day not sure I would buy this again and im kind of sad that I didnt buy that Grüner instead I first intended to (6166 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 3/19/2013: just getting better and better. Surprised how well this showed really. (6277 views)
Tasted by tooch on 1/12/2013 & rated 91 points: Saturday with David White (Domaine Wine Storage & Sun Wah - Chicago, IL): Definitely punches above its price point. Nice tropical character - peaches, pears, mangos fold together seamlessly. The lychee and mineral notes were really buzzing on the finish. Great length, and complexity...a really nice wine. (5935 views)
Tasted by Rob and Meg on 10/27/2012 & rated 88 points: The nose is still a bit primary with mixed cool tropical and orchard fruits, yet undertones of maturity linger as petrol and roasted nuts. The palate strikes a similar dichotomy but remains somewhat standard, boasting lean tropical fruits overlying tart lemon/lime and slate minerals. A refreshing citrus acidity drives the finish. This is definitively tasty and certainly delivers at its price point, however it lacks a certain essential excitement and tension. R&M 88 (3218 views)
Tasted by Champagneinhand on 7/30/2012 & rated 92 points: Decanted this for an hour prior to drinking and this has really turned into a delight, especially for the price point. Apples, kiwi, pear and straw seem to float about the mouth as if just on a light wisp of white pitted fruit sweetness. Plenty of good honeyed tangerine acid and mineral backbone. Still so CO2 in the wine when poured into the decanter. The minerals were very flinty and the finish went on for minutes. (3368 views)
Tasted by Seth Rosenberg on 5/12/2012 & rated 92 points: Light white gold color. This is more like it (last bottle was kind of a bust). Nose of minerals, slate, white pepper and spices, white flowers, red and green apples, a touch of pear and lime - still warming up. Juicy and acidic on entry - lots going on and nice balance. Honey, pear and red apple appear on the mid-palate with the acid backbone chugging along underneath. Spices and strong extract - a nice concentrated salinity. Acid takes over on the palate with a really zingy finish of lime, minerals and spice. A somewhat different showing than the excellent first bottle, but just as good. Again, killer QPR for $15-$17. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 16/20. (3158 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 4/29/2012: Another good showing (2698 views)
Tasted by Seth Rosenberg on 4/19/2012 & rated 88 points: Drank at Zabb Elee at a family event. Was not able to get a full note. Subdued nose and softer on the palate than the previous bottle. Got some glimpses of the flavors and structure that I liked so much, but this bottle was only so-so. not sure if the searing heat from the Thai food interfered. Will have to try another again soon. (2687 views)
Tasted by PVTerroir on 3/4/2012 & rated 89 points: This is good but not excellent, hardly a bad mosel Riesling exists anyway. Subdued nose... Salt water, green apple, peach skin. Waxy open, unctuous mid, sour apple/apricot finish... Lasting finish at that. Nice balance and length, young still. Some minerality (2759 views)
Tasted by tbriggs on 2/29/2012: Delicious. Bright acidity, some mineral. Made me want to drink the bottle in one go. Rebuy: yes. (2836 views)
Tasted by tyvoodoo on 12/20/2011: Pretty nose full of white flowers, perfumey white peach skin, some waxy oiliness and a touch of mango? Full and rich flavors with a nice dense and rich mouthfeel. Nice sharpness with some slate stone, brisk acidity and more tropic fruits. Nice balance and richness that could age a bit but is fun to drink now. (3335 views)
Tasted by Champagneinhand on 12/14/2011 & rated 90 points: great qpr that needs some time. Nice and acidic. Apples, white peaches, white flowers, and pear. no petrol smells at all, which I miss a bit. The finish was a little a little on the short side but stacked against Molitor and Prum. (3290 views)
Tasted by Enfant sauvage on 11/25/2011 & rated 92 points: Started thanksgiving with this. Apricot and pear. Green apple of course. Could use a bit more acidity, but overall a fantastic value. (3187 views)
Tasted by duchamp on 11/24/2011 & rated 91 points: Champagne yellow, subtle nose of flint, white peaches, passion fruit and papaya, sweet but crisp on the palate with green papaya, orange marmalade, pineapple and ripe peaches, finish is long with tropical fruits and limestone undertones (3166 views)
Tasted by Seth Rosenberg on 11/9/2011 & rated 92 points: AP #7. Light yellow-gold. Sweet nose of lemon-lime, crushed stones, honey, white grapes, white flowers. Starts sweet on the palate with ripe green apple, honey, and lemon-lime Medium acid builds in mid palate, strengthening the lemon-lime to more lime notes, along with the stones and some minerals. Excellent mid-palate - not electric, but well focused and great mouthfeel - the sweetness and the acid play well together. Crystal-clear finish of lemon-lime and crushed stones - just gorgeous. The nose is a little sweet and simple, but it is young yet, the finish is just great. As others have said, this is a real steal at around $15-$18. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 16/20. (3426 views)
Tasted by baroloboy55 on 10/29/2011: Just reloaded on this at $15.20 per.... what a steal.... (3339 views)
Tasted by OldSpec on 10/29/2011 & rated 92 points: Very pleasant nose, harmonious structure that makes the wine a delight to drink. Great QPR at $20 a bottle. (2584 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 10/28/2011: Agree with most of the things said here. Incredible value in a nice little spatlese. It could have a bit more acidic zing, but overall just a very good wine. (3356 views)

(Von Hovel Oberemeller Hutte Spatlese) I preferred this a hair over the 2005 for it's racy, lean, linear style and crisper acids. No botrytis on this one but just a structured and classic Saar Spatlese. Loved it. Cellar this and drink the 2005 as it is an opulent sex bomb right now.

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)

Mosel Saar Ruwer

Starting in 2007 the German wine authorities have changed labeling laws to rename all of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer wines to just "Mosel." This puts this and other database driven sites in a difficult spot, as millions of old wine label reflect the former labeling. As described here, CellarTracker has elected to remain with the old labeling for a number of years to avoid confusion. At some point we will switch over to just "Mosel" but not for a few years at least.

#2018 Vintage Notes:
"Acid levels are relatively low throughout Riesling-growing Europe (acidification will once again be permitted in Germany – no surprise, as that’s been the case in eight of the last 10 vintages); but because malic acid was baked off or degraded by relentlessly balmy weather means, what acid remains is overwhelmingly of the efficacious tartaric sort. Extract levels are low, as one would anticipate from a growing season during which relatively little moisture was coursing through the vine’s roots and shoots. [...] Everyone is astonished how there could have been so much juice despite the drought." - David Schildknecht
"2018 is a homogenous vintage with a very high general level, below which it seldom falls [...] It leads with blossom. It is perhaps 80% delicious and 20% fascinating." - Terry Theise

#2017 Vintage Notes:
"not so friendly towards light wines" - Milkmansteve

#2016 Vintage Notes: "Overall, 2016 is a charmer of a vintage with much immediate ripe and fruity appeal, not unlike 2011 (in fresher) or 2007 (in lighter). However, 2016 is far from being homogeneous, in fact it is composed of a mosaic of vintages, a result of the freakish growing conditions. Hidden inside the vintage, there are true gems with the balance of 1997, one of the best vintages ever, 2002 or even 2008. The bulk of the harvest was brought in with refreshingly moderate sugar levels. Overall, the Saar and Ruwer produced slightly fresher wines than the Middle Mosel but there are great differences between Estates. The good harvest conditions allowed for some Auslese, little BA and even TBA wines, but some remarkably pure and fruity Eiswein.
In general, 2016 offers the opportunity to acquire Riesling with great immediate ripe appeal: The vintage is a true charmer. At the top, 2016 is one of the most exciting and elegantly balanced vintage since the 1990s and well-worth stocking up for cellaring! In particular, we urge our readers to literally plunge onto the finest Kabinett and Spätlese: These are some of the most exciting and classic we have ever tasted. 2016 looks also set to become a major vintage for dry Riesling, provided the aromatics are not overripe. Lovers of dessert wines will find much to love in 2016 as the Auslese are pure and the Eiswein are gorgeously fruity. They should however also keep an eye open for the remaining stunning noble-sweet wines from 2015 which are still available here and there." - Mosel Fines Wines, No. 36, July 2017

#2014 Vintage Notes:
"The heterogeneity of the 2014 vintage carries over onto the aging process. The top wines start to close down, as one would expect from these wines which are a remake of those from the 1990s. The wines affected by gin, saffron and mushroom flavors are still comparatively open and offer a not unattractive Scheurebe styled fruit opulence. We would opt to drink up these lesser wines except for the odd bottle and bury the little treasures of the vintage deep into the cellar." - Mosel Fines Wines, No. 30, March 2016

#2013 Vintage Notes:
"The fruity-styled 2013 wines have firmed up significantly since last year and start to show signs of closing down, making the underlying acidity seemingly sharp and out of balance. The better dry wines have come out of their early armor of smoke and tannin but the acidity may prove quite challenging. Quite frankly, except for some smaller bottlings, this is a vintage to lay down and wait." - Mosel Fines Wines, No. 27, March 2015

#2012 Vintage Notes:
"The 2012 wines have put on some flesh and go through a 'fattier' phase which is not unlike what the 2007 went through at the same period. However, the zestier acidity cuts through this 'weight' and makes the wines thoroughly enjoyable at this early stage. In particular the fruity Kabinett and Spatlese as well as the off-dry and dry wines offer much pleasure. We expect these wines to close down over the coming year or two. Enjoy while it lasts!" - Mosel Fines Wines, No. 27, March 2015

#2011 Vintage Notes:
"A bit to our surprise, the 2011 wines have shut down and go through a quite difficult and muted phase now. Their low acidity combined with their maturity makes them feel rich, opulent and often bulky, and thus not really enjoyable. We expect that these will need at least a decade to integrate their sweetness and gain in harmony. The only exception is the dry wines, whose low acidity makes for great food companionship." - Mosel Fines Wines, No. 27, March 2015

#2010 Vintage Notes:
"After a mellower period in 2012, many 2010 wines have firmed up and developed a stronger smoky side. However, most continue to shine through their fruit opulence, structure and deliciously zesty but ripe acidity. This suits in particular the off-dry bottlings, which have more charm than the legally dry wines. Will these wines close down? Actually, the softening acidity makes us wonder now but it also provides further evidence that these wines will turn out harmonious after all." - Mosel Fines Wines, No. 27, March 2015

#2009 Vintage Notes:
"Most 2009 wines have closed down, which accentuates their round and soft side forward. Many can still be quite enjoyable but the times of primary fruit with its attractive aromatic expression and a generous acidic kick are now over. Except for the dry wines, we would definitely recommend keeping your hands off any bottle in your cellar and possibly buying more wines from this vintage on the market as these are true gems in the making." - Mosel Fines Wines, No. 27, March 2015
