Tasted by BuzzzzOff on 4/30/2015 & rated 91 points: We were lucky to be invited for a visit to Gaja Winery, which was founded by Giovanni Gaja in 1859 and has been owned and operated by five generations of the Gaja family. Giovanni Gaja was the great-grandfather of Angelo Gaja, the Winery's current owner. Angelo has taken Gaja, and the Italian wine industry in general, to a whole new level. Excellent, big, long finish nice nose. Can wait for 20 years. Made great whites, but no reds, in 2002. (2262 views)
Tasted by falp on 11/28/2014 & rated 92 points: not very elegant... (2282 views)
Tasted by DonDon on 11/4/2012 & rated 95 points: This is magnificent. I've owned this for 8 years and the I first had this wine about 5 year ago. It's mellowed and it really is excellent - so well balanced and such a great expression of the grape (3144 views)
Tasted by Rupert on 7/14/2005 & rated 90 points: At Restaurant Alba: Powerful, minerally chardonnay, beautifully balanced - first rate (4449 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 3/11/2004 & rated 87 points: Gaja Tasting hosted by Angelo Gaja (The Peninsula Hotel- Chicago): This had a Chardonnay profile to my palate and I mentioned to Otis that it was not my style. This was a walking around wine at the reception before the tasting so I did not take notes. 87 points. (6729 views)
Tasted by R2-D2 on 3/10/2004 & rated 90 points: The is nealy 100% Chardonnay and was served during a reception before the tasting. I was completely unaware that it was Chardonnay when someone asked me what it was and I replied "I'm not sure, it tastes like a Chard though." No notes, but it was very minerally, full of lemon zest, buttercream, and balanced. (2511 views)

Gaja

Producer website

Located in the Tuscany and Piedmont regions of Italy, Gaja makes collectible Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay wines, including the Langhe Conteisa label. Gaja wines are among the highest-rated in all of Italy. It is perhaps best known for its Super Tuscans, which are some of the most elegant on the market. However, the estate also makes top-quality wines rooted in Italian tradition, such as Barbaresco. It is perhaps the most lauded Barbaresco producer today.

Although the estate produces 18 different wines, the production is low at just 350,000 bottles per year, making these wines very rare. The best Gaja vintages include 2018, 2016, and 2015 as well as historically well-performing vintages such as 2013, 2011, 2010, 2008, 2004, and 2003. Many of Gaja’s best vintages have received perfect scores from critics
