Almost reminds me of a Sauternes . Would be great for dessert with strong cheese, lots of residual sugar but still balanced. Caramel, stewed apples, orange peel on the nose. A monument of a wine, with super ripe apricots, savory quince and lip smacking, palate cleansing acids. This did have an ever so slight "dirty" note on the nose, but the palate was clean. The 1989 Huet, however, got better with air and overtook this wine, while this "only" maintained. I had this bottling a couple of years back where it was more electric, but this was still insanely delicious. (2890 views) | | Tasted by BradKNYC on 7/11/2015: A wonderful evening of Chenin. (Chez Kravitz- Old Saybrook): It was fun to try this side by side with the Cuvée Constance. It’s of a completely different character. It’s much darker in color and is a denser, weightier, sweeter and more botrytis dominated wine that comes across more as an essencia. Intensely sweet with apricot preserves, orange marmalade, earl grey tea, quince paste and mineral flavors and aromas. There’s plenty of acidity here, but this wine just isn’t as nimble as the Constance. Still, it’s a monumental wine, one your grandkids will be able to enjoy. A+/A. Red amber in the glass, this wine quickly announced its' presence with tremendous aromas of honey, peaches and mirabelles amongst others. The palate is sweet but with razor sharp acidity to match and the finish is endless. My notes are not as detailed as this wine deserves as I was not feeling well at this point in the evening. My first time with this and i look forward to having it again. I wonder if Foreau struggled with whether or not to label this as Goutte D'Or and didn't out of respect for his grandfather and the '47 and then gave in with the '90 or if he didn't think it deserved that title but was something beyond Moelleux Reserve? As fabulous as this is, it is a step behind the '90 Foreau Goutte D'Or and the '89 Huet Cuvee Constance but this is all splitting hairs as all 3 are some of the finest wines to ever come out of Vouvray. 50+14+14+9.5+9.5 = 97 (2943 views) | | Tasted by CMN on 7/9/2013: Delicious and complex, reminded me of an aged Sauternes. Can go on for several decades, but drinking well now. (3074 views) | | Tasted by indiscriminate palate on 5/26/2013: The sweetness just might be bordering on a Tokay Essencia. Just had a few sips in the middle of hectic party planning, but wow what a showstopper. Absolutely remarkable balance and ridiculous finish. (2662 views) | | Tasted by salil on 5/25/2013 & rated 97 points: Deep orange gold in colour, just a touch darker than the 1934 Huët LHL Moelleux, and WOW is this amazing. Layers of orange marmalade, quince, honey, faintly waxy and wooly elements and so much more nuance, and while it's very rich and intensely sweet, there's an incredible acid spine beneath that keeps it so vibrant, light and refreshing with a finish that just keeps going on and on. (1653 views) | | Tasted by Rieslingfan on 5/25/2013 & rated 98 points: This is quite possibly the most intense wine I have ever tasted. The layers of fruit are nearly buried under a wave of rich sweetness, almost like an essence of brown sugar. Despite that immense sweetness it is never cloying, but maintains a balance that would seem impossible for a wine this rich and sweet. I do not get a ton of the classic Chenin elements, as this heads more towards honeyed peach than waxy quince. Just an amazing wine though, and one I will be thinking about for a long, long time. So concentrated, so rich, so sweet , so powerful, yet somehow, this manages to be in balance with lip-pursing acidity. Such a cornucopia of exotic flavors here, apricot marmalade, honey, peach preserves, orange rind, sultana raisins, tropical flowers and spiced honey. A mind boggling combination of sweet, sour and savory. An incredulous, palate-coating, lengthy finish. Perhaps a bit "slutty"? (nah...). If this had a bit more minerality, it would be illegally good. (2314 views) | | Tasted by Flavito on 4/17/2011 & rated 98 points: Incredibly complex and structured, just approaching maturity, this should live 100 years. Very balanced, with great acidity and an amazingly long finish. Very close to perfection. (1903 views) | | Tasted by DaleW on 10/26/2010: Great acids, stunning sweet fruit, long, tangy, lively. I thought about serving next to the (great) regular Reserve, but 2 750s of dessert wine as people are leaving seemed absurd. Still, would have liked to see any differences.
