Community Tasting Notes (average 92 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 35 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by psi on 12/17/2023 & rated 87 points: Too old. Hopefully bottle variation (198 views)
Tasted by Thoughtful on 12/15/2023 & rated 91 points: Six years later. Lost in cellar. Deep brown/gold like a very old auslese. Old brown hock! Pure, mineral no sign of petrol. Looked as if oxidized. Just enough acidity. Interesting but aged much quicker than expected. Drink now. (209 views)
Tasted by psi on 5/5/2023 & rated 92 points: Fully mature imho. (334 views)
Bien +

From Turckheim, the cru is very "solar" bottom of the slope, and southernly exposed, so it might get pretty ripe... It was and still is

Very evoluted, no petrol nor kerosene here, with honey, bee wax, same on the palate, not much acidity to hold it well together... good balance still but nothing too exceptional here. That happens :) (793 views)
Tasted by bopal on 12/10/2020: Dense and honeyed texture, but palate expression is very dry (Indice 2) with great cut. Slate, citrus and peach, zest and pit, with saline tones emerging on day two. Prototypical, classic, pure. Great wine. Z-H isn’t always consistent, but the highs are very high indeed. (1089 views)
Tasted by bjlcrucrazy on 11/8/2020 & rated 90 points: This was very golden and dry. Paired okay with fried chicken (965 views)
Tasted by psi on 6/4/2019 & rated 93 points: A strong effort. Maybe it is better than the VV version. It is drier, which is nice, because it is not bone dry and it is very mineral. Full bodied with ripe fruit, it is intense, mineral, spicy and multi-layered (1330 views)
Tasted by acyso on 5/7/2018 & rated 88 points: Tempier at Margeaux Brasserie (Chicago, IL): I love the nose here, and how it developed over the course of the evening. It's spicy, a little tropical, tons of pineapple, and a hint of sweetness. However, this doesn't have enough cut on the palate for me. It's too broad and while there is acid, it doesn't give this wine enough of a linear drive. Rounded and a touch waxy, this isn't really my kind of riesling. (2399 views)
Tasted by drrobvino on 4/17/2018 & rated 91 points: A beautiful med gold in color.
Aroma is replete with lychee, almond paste, a hint of petroleum, and a dash of honey.
Flavors echo the nose, with razor sharp acidity supporting a quite-unctuous fruit profile.
Drink this pretty wine now through 2020 or so. (1396 views)
Tasted by mjf@ulkner on 12/26/2017 & rated 92 points: Golden yellow. Lots of diesel on the nose. Ripe and unctuous- apricot, nectarine, mango fruit. Essentially dry, but enough residual sugar to pair nicely with food. The acidity has faded a touch from my last bottle- but still plenty for further aging. (1171 views)
Tasted by Thoughtful on 11/14/2017 & rated 93 points: Perfect condition. Years of life ahead. Lovely bouquet and taste with mouth filling intensity and long intense aftertaste. (1223 views)
Tasted by dream on 5/21/2017 & rated 93 points: Classic Brand nose of metallic green minerals and ripe peach, tangerine and apple fruit. Such an elegant and complex wine with ripe, tangy tangerine and peach fruit and strong limestone mineral flavors. The finish is beguiling with a lovely almost spritzy tip of the tongue complexity and mouth-watering acidity with classic green mineral notes. In mid-age and as always an amazing pairing for a variety of foods. Olivier Humbrecht needs to be mentioned when discussing the world's greatest winemakers. (1266 views)
Tasted by drrobvino on 4/15/2017 & rated 91 points: This wine was delicious. Mature green apple and pear notes, alongside paraffin and honey. Very dry, showing brilliant acidity and a long and satisfying finish. Drink now through 2018+. (836 views)
Tasted by dream on 10/31/2015 & rated 91 points: Medium green/gold color. Pungent nose of fresh grass, petrol and hints of mangos and limes. A big and full Riesling in the classic Alsatian style with intense and delicious flavors of ripe stone fruits and grapefruit along with hints of limestone and clove. Finishes quite concentrated and succulent with lots of complex spices and stony minerals. This is a heavy wine but it has the underlying structure and effervescent acidity to keep it fresh and interesting. Ready now but should last. (1856 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 12/24/2014: Good intensity, just off-dry. Drink or hold. (2115 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 2/4/2014 & rated 92 points: Lovely stuff. Nose of peach, citrus and honeysuckle. Grapefruit, wet stone, and white peach flavors when consumed. Went well with the sashimi salad course. (2617 views)
Tasted by psi on 4/27/2013 & rated 93 points: Full bodied riesling. Ripe fruit, creamy, intense, mineral, spicy, multi-layered. (2923 views)
Tasted by mjf@ulkner on 3/15/2013 & rated 94 points: Juicy, mouthwatering fruit. Minerality still prominent, but well integrated. The hint of sweetness on the finish helped this pair perfectly with a corned beef and cabbage dish (3195 views)
Tasted by drrobvino on 1/12/2013 & rated 91 points: The wine has a clear appearance, with a med gold color, fading to light gold at the rim.
On the nose, it is developing, med in intensity, with aromas of apricot and sweet peach, with a hint of caramel and light honey notes in the upper register.
On the palate, this 2007 Alsatian Riesling is dry or perhaps the faintest bit of RS, med in body and alcohol (13.5% listed on label), and comes across with med(+) flavors of peach and honeydew melon, orange zest, and a zing of peppery spice...just so you know it's Alsatian. The wine then delivers a med/med(+) level of acidity, leading into med length finish offering up orange zest, peach and minerals.
This Riesling has complex, layered flavors with a delicious finish and a prickly spice that makes it quite interesting and tasty. A very good quality wine that is drinking well now, and will continue to do so for the next 5-7 years or more. (2508 views)
Tasted by salil on 10/11/2012 flawed bottle: Bottle of Pain dinner (Ibiza, New Haven, CT): Something's quite off here. Rather spritzy, sour and showing barely any fruit; not sure if this refermented in bottle or what happened here, but this doesn't taste anything like what I'd expect from ZH and is unrecognizable as Riesling. (3260 views)
Tasted by Yiannis on 6/18/2012 & rated 95 points: Fantastic Alsace riesling. This was the Indice 2 version, with 8-9 % residual sugar. Very expressive nose with lime, peach, candied quince, honey and stony minerality. Full-bodied, creamy and perfectly balanced with generous, ripe fruit and high acidity. Endless aftertaste. A masterpiece that was already enjoyable with a long life ahead. (2262 views)
Tasted by Stefanos T. on 6/17/2012 & rated 94 points: Deeply colored wine with explosive nose full of minerals. Very typical Alsace Grand Cru wine with full body, peachy and quince flavors, mouthwatering acidty and minerality which tastes almost painful. Slightly off-dry, this is a masterpice. (1667 views)
Tasted by Dokken on 6/16/2012 & rated 95 points: An amazing wine from the granite-over-limestone Brand vineyard. Lemon in appearance with an expressive honeyed, floral and peachy nose. Textbook Alsace richness on palate with creaminess, very ripe fruit and intense presense of minerals(crushed rocks). Very long and multi-layered. Concentration and lively acidity promise a long life of more than a decade. (1626 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 4/13/2011 & rated 91 points: Golden yellow color. Pineapple nose. Tastes of lemon, petrol, apple, and caramel. Well balanced. Nice mouthfeel. Rich oily finish with good complexity. 13.5% alcohol. (2207 views)
Tasted by jeff nowak on 4/13/2011 & rated 90 points: solid, but didn't spend enough time with it. should age well. (2294 views)

Zind-Humbrecht

Producer website
Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is one of the stars of the Alsace, in the northeastern corner of France. Fought over for decades by Germany and France, the region, according to Robert M. Parker Jr., “is perhaps the most underrated and underutilized source of great white wines in the world.” Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959 by Leonard Humbrecht and Genevieve Zind. Their son Olivier is now instrumental in running the 99-acre estate, which the family still owns. Like many Alsatian producers, Zind-Humbrecht makes white wines in varying degrees of sweetness, from dessert whites to very dry wines. The vineyards are planted to 30% Riesling, 30% Gewurztraminer, 29% Pinot Gris, and smaller amounts of Pinot Noir, Muscat, Chardonnay, Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc. Up to 18,000 cases are produced annually. Many are Grand Crus and single vineyard bottlings.
