Community Tasting Notes (average 86.8 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 44 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by SexyEpicurean on 11/20/2014 & rated 84 points: Very fruity and smooth....not unpleasant but very uninspiring. Very grape-juicy with barely a trace of tannin, mineral, earth, or sense of place. A bit too sweet for my taste. I think this is probably nearing the end, so drink up. Did not do much for the steak at dinner, but an excellent wine with a dark chocolate dessert. (2908 views)
Tasted by JdeM on 1/18/2013 flawed bottle: Corked with funny deposit in bottle (3957 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 7/13/2012 & rated 86 points: In the bouquet dark fruits like plums and black forest fruits. Mostly ripe black forest fruits on the palate as well. Some sweet as well as salty licorice. There is some pleasant oak and a good balance between sweetness and acidity. Ready now and the next 2 years. (4318 views)
Tasted by gallu on 1/21/2012 & rated 89 points: 89 En plenitud. En nariz es austero, predominando la crianza sobre la fruta. En boca se muestra muy equilibrado, con taninos golosos y muy suaves. Un muy buen vino al que hay que darle tiempo hasta que madura. (4553 views)
Tasted by CabIsKing on 7/5/2011 & rated 88 points: Very earthy and dark cherries on the nose. Thin and a bit unbalanced on the palate but still enjoyable. Weekday pour. (4913 views)
Tasted by lemifr on 4/17/2011 & rated 85 points: - Garnet color and aromas of blackberry, tobacco, black pepper and oak. It's balanced and has flavours of mint, blackberry, black pepper and vanilla with a medium body. Round texture with a medium finish. (2782 views)
Tasted by clio_wine on 3/16/2011: Good. Dark ruby color; nose of herbs and dust; flavors of red cherry and earth with a slightly bitter finish, which is not unusual for the touriga nacional grape. <Wow/Very Good/Good/Fair/Plonk> (2021 views)
Tasted by YWG Wine Guy on 3/7/2010 & rated 84 points: Underwhelmed...seems unbalanced, and nothing to excite my palate - light, thin, bitter tannin, some tart cherry notes...Price of 22$...i might have liked it better for 10$. Did buy its Reserva brother for 40$ and will try that next year... (2354 views)
Tasted by gesusser on 2/15/2010 & rated 88 points: hearty blend that opened nicely after a short decant; was well recieved (2525 views)
Tasted by RussK on 1/12/2010 & rated 85 points: RUSSK Right out of the bottle, not so good: nose almost unpleasant; taste somewhat harsh. Then after a .5hr decant and some vinvac, it became more compelling. It jumped about 6 pts. Still would not buy more. (2422 views)
Tasted by Edzo on 1/6/2010 & rated 80 points: A promising Nose of earthy red cherry. The mouthfeel was watery. Very light bodied. The wine was astringent and out of whack. A bit of spice with heat on the finish. (2440 views)
Tasted by cab on 10/7/2009: Thumbs up. Decent for $14. Earthy, a little barnyard, slightly dusty, tart red fruits. Slightly tannic but it is the acidity that stands out. A little over-powered by a fairly low-key vegetarian mean, but refreshing on its own. Might get a few more bottles, but for immediate drinking. (2652 views)
Tasted by CooGAR on 8/13/2009 & rated 83 points: ok wine....... poor qpr (2885 views)
Tasted by whitealleycat on 6/6/2009 & rated 80 points: Let this wine breath for a while to really bring out the flavour. Very Grapey, lots of pepper. Not a big fan of this one. (2816 views)
Tasted by Bacchant on 6/4/2009 & rated 84 points: Medium-dark magenta color with a clear ruby hue. Muted nose of musty oak, and not much else. Ripe, new-world dark fruit emerges on the palate, but has low acidity & soft, anemic tannins. Underwhelming finish. Horrible QPR. [(50% Tinta Roriz; 20% Tinta Barroca; 15% Touriga Franca; & 15% Touriga Nacional); 14% abv.; $20.00]. (2759 views)
Tasted by vinzen cellar on 5/13/2009 & rated 88 points: Very unique wine. Earthy tones and strong black cherry flavors with velvety texture on the palette. Recommend decanting to breath first. But quickly reaches peak tasting. (3036 views)
Tasted by jrobs7777 on 5/2/2009: The Eighth Annual Philadelphia Wine Festival (Philadelphia Marriott Downtown): Plain and pleasant Douro red. (3993 views)
Tasted by ews3 on 5/2/2009 & rated 88 points: Philadelphia Wine Festival (Marriott, Philadelphia PA): nice, pleasant -- not much complexity here, but plum and blackberry notes. finish is a touch dilute (5267 views)
Tasted by Cabfrancophile on 4/4/2009 & rated 83 points: Simple without much structure. Not much on the nose, mostly cherry. There is some earthy flavor, but mostly easy drinking red fruit. Low acidity, low tannin. No need to wait on this one. Decent young drinker. (3046 views)
Tasted by Yiannis on 2/18/2009 & rated 88 points: Quite port-like on the nose with lots of sultanas and some flowery notes. Mid-bodied, with good balance. Nice fruit core enframed by soft tannins and balancing acidity. Long finish. (3114 views)
Tasted by hutch on 1/13/2009 & rated 87 points: 3/29/09: A little funk on the nose and palate. Good fruit. Solid bottle of wine. I like this a little more then last time. 87-88

1/13/09:Nice rich nose. Good fruit on a medium bodied palate. Fairly simple, but this was popped and poured. I'll give it the benefit of needing more time, but this runs $20 here, and I can't really get excited about it at that price. (3047 views)
Tasted by JSwick on 1/2/2009 & rated 88 points: Nice floral and stony aromas. Some pruny raisiny things as well. Palate is very elegant with nice intensity. I agree with all of the other notes about this wine. More earth driven than fruit. (3117 views)
Tasted by whits on 12/4/2008 & rated 90 points: the first whiff threw me off, very funky, but it blew off quick and revealed big aromas of bright ripe cherries and violets, soft on the palate, but intense, with good representation of soil on the palate, dark fleshy fruit, pepper, and juicy berries, this 14 dollar bottle is a winner (3176 views)
Tasted by JMeddings on 11/20/2008 & rated 88 points: This was a truly delightful wine. Smooth and tasty with no bitterness I could detect. (3248 views)
Tasted by Ruubious on 11/17/2008 & rated 90 points: Very good Value, Lots of Thick dark cherry aromas, Big juicy fruit as well, A bit of Spice coming through as well, Long Finish with smooth tannins and a bit of heat at the end. (3053 views)

Sommelier Journal, September 2009
(Quinta do Crasto, Douro) This wine echoes the classic blend of Port: Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional. The 20-year-old vines, planted on the schist soils of the Douro, produce wines of complexity, depth, and great flavor. While decidedly Old World in style, the Quinta do Crasto shows a freshness and ripeness that suggest a New World edge. There is a delicious commingling of red and black fruits, with an accent of spicy herb tones that linger on the finish. Hot Picks

About Quinta do Crasto
Located in the heart of the Douro Valley, on the right bank of the river mid-way between Regua and Pinhao, Quinta do Crasto has been in the family of Leonor and Jorge Roquette for over a century. Nestled on a privileged location in the Douro Demarcated Region, Quinta do Crasto dates back to ancient times. The name Crasto is derived from the Latin word "castrum," or Roman fort. With its commanding unobstructed view of the river, it is not difficult to imagine why the Romans would choose to occupy such a strategic site. Quinta do Crasto produces different styles of port and table wines each year. Together with their winemakers and their entire team, they seek to produce year after year wines that display the unique and beautiful characteristics of the Douro, through a tireless devotion to tradition, integrity and excellence.
