Tasted by canan on 6/16/2023 & rated 93 points: Brunello 2004 Horisontal (My House): Lovely purity and cleanness in the flavors that are packed with elegant young cherry fruit.
The wine certainly feels very young and still has a huge tannin structure. Needs more time but still a very lovely wine! I loved it! (417 views)
Tasted by canan on 2/13/2021 & rated 93 points: Intense sour cherry flavors with a solid structure and amazing acidity. This wine has really hit a lovely place with great definition and purity. Loved it! (618 views)
Tasted by CHarder on 1/15/2021 & rated 92 points: Still showing great (503 views)
Tasted by CHarder on 11/6/2020 & rated 92 points: Still nice. Think previous bottle slightly off. Drink over next 3 yrs. (466 views)
Tasted by CHarder on 4/24/2020 & rated 91 points: This is I think has peaked. Still nice but drink over 2yrs (525 views)
Tasted by canan on 6/10/2019 & rated 92 points: Followed over several hours. The wine was decanted slowly and just kept cold in the decanter.
0h:
The nose just screams sour cherries and wet rocks. It does initially have a bit of aged funk but it blows off quickly. It also has a touch of wet leaves and earth but still plenty of cherry fruit.
Intense sour cherry flavor fills the palate with a solid depth and some minerality. There are a slight touch of wet leaves but otherwise the wine still feels quite young and has a great freshness and still some gripping tannins.
Overall it is in a lovely balance and is drinking really nicely now.
I am highly impressed at how solid it delivers as PnP. Very difficult not to just finish the rest of the bottle!! 93p

5h: Similar on the nose with sour cherries and minerals but are also showing some sweetness. The fruit has a touch of cranberry also. The palate has opened up even more and feels lush and a showing a lot more fruit.
The aftertaste has perhaps declined a bit but overall it still has a lot of life left in it. After 5 hours in the decanter it still has lots of life and depth.92p

Overall, it is a lovely wine to drink now as it shows lots of freshness and still has plenty of intense fruit. It is a wine that leans to the more classic style of Brunello with regards to the light refreshing fruit leaning towards cranberries.
An impressive wine at this price level. (604 views)
Tasted by CHarder on 8/26/2018 & rated 92 points: This still has many years ahead. Needs 1hr in decant but really nice after that (465 views)
Tasted by canan on 8/25/2017 & rated 92 points: Lovely and fresh but starting to show a little age but still in a good way. The intensity is still present and it is a lovely wine.
No need to worry about the aging potential of this wine. (1023 views)
Tasted by canan on 1/17/2015 & rated 92 points: Double-decanted for 7 hours.
Young and open cherry fruit. Very fresh and a lot of acidity. It is classic in its style without being rustic. Solid acidic aftertaste with some spices.
Overall it is quite impressive and highly underrated. (2279 views)
Tasted by canan on 2/7/2009: Decanted and then tasted over 6 hours.
0h: Intense and spice nose with rosemary and thyme followed by dark cherries. A little earth tones as well. After a little bit of air the fruit changes to sweet raspberries.
The palate has a nice depht with bitter cherries and harsh tannins followed by a powerful acidity. An acidic length with sweet cherries and a sligth bitterness at the end. Very nice..
3h: The mouth is now more balanced and less powerful and every aspect of the wine seems to be well integrated. It has gained some dark fruit on the palate, mostly cherries moving towards plums. The tannins are still harsh but seems to go well with the more powerful fruit intensity. An decent acidity and a slight sweetness fits very well into the wine.
6h: Still the same as before. Very juicy and excellent potentiale..
All in all a very good wine with an very good QPR. (3913 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
