Tasted by WAM cellar on 9/17/2023: Old (403 views)
Tasted by jmdickeyiv on 11/29/2020 & rated 92 points: Very pleased given age. Opened nicely after an hour plus decant. Smooth, very limited tannins, hints of berry, tobacco, chocolate. (2252 views)
Tasted by bigdogflow on 10/3/2020 & rated 92 points: Slight brown on the rim, but still medium ruby color. Wine was very fresh and bright, sold taste of cherry with a medium finish. Very enjoyable. (2239 views)
Tasted by TBean on 3/24/2019 & rated 90 points: Still fresh. Keep it in cellar since 2000. Surprise to find the present of the red fruit notes. No trace of strong oak here. (3061 views)
Tasted by Casa Vino Cru on 12/22/2018 & rated 91 points: Opened an Imperial (6.0L) purchased at the winery in 2006 for the office Holiday Party we hosted, figuring it was now or never on this big boy. Properly cellared (upright though) for 12+ years, cork extraction was perfect (to my surprise), and tasting about 90 minutes before serving cured my considerable skepticism.

Served with dinner (for 18), and although light-to-medium bodied, brackish in color and short on the finish, there was just enough fruit left, coupled, with residual (soft / barely noticeable) tannins and a silky-smooth mouth feel, to make this a perfectly fine choice for the occasion.

It will certainly not “blow up your skirt” at this point, so if you have any of this vintage in your cellar I encourage you to enjoy it soon, especially if you have it in 750 or magnum. Sadly, we didn’t finish it (extended cocktail hour had something to do with that!), be we came close enough and have no regrets. (3240 views)
Tasted by Richstephen on 11/19/2017: Surprisingly very good for the age. Plenty of fruit but probably not too much time left for this one. Better than I was expecting. My last bottle. (4306 views)
Tasted by FGS on 7/8/2016 & rated 90 points: You never know how these old vintages will hold up. Some are just outstanding, while others fade hard. I'm sure much of this is bottle variant, and a lot will be dependent on how well the bottle was stored (I have purchased most of these old vintages 2nd hand). That said, this particular bottle of Jordan held up very well. Dark cherries, pepper (green pepper-ish) and hints of citrus. Well balanced with a good amount of tannin left to give it a lift against a big burger. The finish is quick, but doesn't leave you disappointed. I have enjoyed good luck with older Jordan's, and hope this luck continues. (4716 views)
Tasted by Richstephen on 6/21/2016 & rated 92 points: Much better than I was expecting. It still has some life. Plenty of fruit. (4729 views)
Tasted by beitopod on 1/10/2016 & rated 88 points: Past its prime. No tannins. Still enjoyable though (4504 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 12/19/2014 & rated 91 points: Really lovely perfume, small red forest berries with sweet tobacco leaf/soft leather, light spice; soft lighter fine tannins lovely mouthfeel, good acidity and balance even if it is quite elegant and light for a CA cab. I've had this a number of times and this seems to be the best bottle yet, or it's just getting a bit better with age! (5899 views)
Tasted by creek55 on 10/27/2014 & rated 80 points: This wine is past its drinking window. Although the wine improved as it opened up, it was clearly past its peak. (4842 views)
Tasted by GrantGieseler on 8/16/2014 & rated 88 points: This Wine is past it's peak but still drinkable. Continued to improve with 45-60 min of decanting. Rust-brown color, and a subtle hint of sour cherry and fig on the palate. Very little tannin left. (3296 views)
Tasted by nroscoe on 8/4/2014 & rated 88 points: I waited too long to drink this (3328 views)
Tasted by bomber99 on 4/6/2014 & rated 89 points: Let this one sit a little to long, great nose with with berry spice and earth notes, was lacking some fruit but still drank OK, will consume my last bottle quickly as its giving up the ghost. (3309 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 9/7/2013 & rated 88 points: Old & Rare CA Cabs: At first good dose of earthy mustiness, but blew off quickly; then red fruits shined as in cranberry, cherry, red forest berry; dried herbs, a touch of tar; this is very light, low tannins, high acidity, 12.8% alc. Charming wine, but I don't think California cabs can support such low alcohol, resulting in a thin, low intensity, low tannin wine. Gotta respect them for trying. The '84 easily outshined this with or meat on its bones. (3112 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 9/2/2013 & rated 89 points: Had been saving this magnum for a special day - bought years ago from the vineyard - decided Labor Day BBQ dinner at Lauren's qualified...

Decanted for about 45 minutes. Medium color, slight signs of aging. Soft mouthfeel - much less ripe and fruit forward than the 96, which is a surprise.Red fruits, cherry, tobacco, cedar. Had Bordeaux like nose with some graphite/lead. Tannins faded.

Very nice, elegant wine. Would pair like standard Cal Cab or Bordeaux but not with bigger flavors, you'll miss the subtleties of this wine.

Drink up, it is starting to fade (2818 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 7/19/2013 & rated 90 points: Medium concentration ruby-red with slight bricking;Soft red currant, sweet tobacco, slight wild strawberry aspect; some sour cherry in the mouth, medium tannins, higher acidity, elegant, some tangy bright red fruits in the finish. Good character, lighter style. (2673 views)
Tasted by cjsavino on 6/9/2013 & rated 90 points: This wine has progressed to a more Bordeaux style with tannins faded, fruit present and an earthiness on the palate. (2847 views)
Tasted by Michael Grossman on 1/1/2013: Beyond it's prime. It was not complex and should have been drunk earlier (3371 views)
Tasted by dlstrauss on 7/11/2012 & rated 86 points: No question - past its prime (3552 views)
Tasted by cjsavino on 7/4/2012 & rated 91 points: This wine was showing quite well tonight. Initial tastes of bell pepper that blew off after 30 minutes. Juicy up front with classic dusty tannins on the finish. (3559 views)
Tasted by Paradiseranch5 on 1/23/2012 & rated 75 points: Berry, smoke and Carmel are present on the nose. Very austere and well past it's prime. (4373 views)
Tasted by pete.palladino on 11/25/2011 & rated 91 points: STill a great wine. A bit past it's prime but really well balanced. (4462 views)
Tasted by cellarrats on 11/24/2011 & rated 95 points: For all those who say- she is past... Wrong! After two hours of decanting- opened into a cherry, chocolate bomb! Perfect with (the girl says) flourless chocolate cake. (I say) Lamb, coffee, and cigar smoke. It keeps getting older as time passes- Decant at least three hours. Indulge in decadent beauty... (3855 views)
Tasted by Arthur Riedel on 9/9/2011 & rated 87 points: Decepcionou. Bem equilibrate mas sem Nariz. (3927 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
