Not overly pruney, good fruit. (1195 views) | | Tasted by Shawna Benson on 7/4/2012 & rated 87 points: Aromatic. Berries and pepper. Still very robust. (2758 views) | | Tasted by costacasa on 4/16/2012 & rated 87 points: Not dead yet! I thought this zin may have kicked the bucket, but it is still a good solid zin. Very well balanced, smooth, with some spice present. Fruit has fallen off a bit, as expected. (2623 views) | | Tasted by foobarski on 3/22/2012 & rated 86 points: Understated, not loud. Nice peppery nose. (2466 views) | | Tasted by foobarski on 12/30/2011 & rated 86 points: Still hanging in there, although I will probably drink our last bottle early in the coming year. Just a good, solid zin. (2657 views) | | Tasted by ecola on 10/18/2011 & rated 87 points: Medium body style zin. Nice blend of dark berries, herbs, and acidity. I think this is nearing the end of its life and the decline will come soon and sharp. (2103 views) | | Tasted by chayward on 2/4/2011 & rated 87 points: Zinfandel tasting (non-blind): Very fruit-forward, with some cocoa and spice. Nose really weakened after some time in the glass. Peppery on the palate. Least favorite of the vertical, but still good. Drink now. (2106 views) | | Tasted by joannevicious on 5/18/2010 & rated 85 points: Great upon first opening. Dark berries in the aroma and palate. Interesting. Not much heat. Thins out as it opens-up. Tart cherries, which I don't care for. Hoping day 2 mellows the tartness and allows the richness to pull through. (2139 views) | | Tasted by merryberry on 4/17/2010 & rated 87 points: Dark ruby red. Intense raspberry compote, spice, and leather on the nose. Somewhat light-bodied, tart blackberries, pepper, figs, slightly bitter cherries that coat the palate, strong tannins, and a medium finish. Seems kind of young and not quite ready. Better after a couple of hours of air. 2nd day: As I suspected, its better today. Brighter fruit, more pepper, and a clean, lingering finish. (2013 views) | | Tasted by bkarney on 1/12/2010: bright fruit, cherry, earth, little toast, little heat. well integrated and expressive nose. darker cherry, good acidity on the palate. fruit fades on palate but tannins linger. good stuff (2528 views) | | Tasted by boatman72 on 11/11/2009: not a favorite (2465 views) | | Tasted by dsm0721 on 7/28/2009 & rated 88 points: One of the better Zin's I have had. Nice fruit but not over the top (2939 views) | | Tasted by P W BLACK on 7/2/2009 & rated 85 points: Good everyday Zin. Jammy with hint of oak. Decent finish. Good value, would buy again at the price. | Zinfandel ZAP: Zinfandel Advocates & Producers | Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wikipedia-ZinfandelUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma ValleySonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.
Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries. |
