Tasted by kassim10 on 4/26/2022 & rated 90 points: Probably should have had it sooner, but still very good. The epitome of a California Zinfandel. I have always enjoyed their wines. This one was well balanced in its fruitiness and dryness. Recommended. (500 views)
Tasted by asgerG on 2/3/2020 & rated 92 points: D1h. Garnet red, yellowish tinged, 4.5. Spicy bouquet with ripe red fruit, some ketone stuff behind. Mellow harmonious palate, low tannin, some acidity, dark fruits in the elegant finish. Drink now-2025. To this day the most elegant well balanced Zinfandel I have tasted. And still going strong. Bravo! (935 views)
Tasted by miramateev on 11/23/2014: Still lovely (3615 views)
Tasted by blind troglodyte on 12/5/2013: Nice enough with dinner but even better when I woke up at 2 a.m. and couldn't get back to sleep. So I had two more glasses between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. Then I went to bed. Woke up at 10 very satisfied. So it's like that. (4861 views)
Tasted by ljones on 7/5/2013 & rated 92 points: Nice spicy zin, elegant, no heat, well balanced. Why does everyone else make monster zins? (5146 views)
Tasted by grover91 on 5/11/2013 & rated 87 points: Usually a big fan of Frog's Leap, but not as crazy about this zin. It's smooth with good body and certainly drinkable. The nose is thin with an acidic quality. The tannins are a bit harsh without much fruit to balance them. The finish is non-existent. Not your usual Frog. (4747 views)
Tasted by asgerG on 12/30/2012 & rated 90 points: Decanted 1h. Clear red, red rim, 5. Generous nose, ripe red berries, pebber, Merlot/south Rhône like. Well rounded harmonious palate, fine balance. Drink now-2015. The most elegant Zinfandel I have sampled. Very fine (4863 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 12/29/2012 & rated 88 points: A somewhat lightweight zin, trending toward a pinot. Zesty fruit and pairs well with pasta. (2485 views)
Tasted by jawegs on 9/15/2012 & rated 82 points: Rather weak and wattery (2325 views)
Tasted by Sonoma Style on 2/11/2012 & rated 90 points: il mondo vecchio (2774 views)
Tasted by nycfan on 12/16/2011 & rated 88 points: Pleasantly surprised...drinking well right now with good flavor and little heat. (3103 views)
Tasted by Sonoma Style on 4/2/2011 & rated 89 points: Refreshing at cellar temperature, smooth texture, no decant needed. Beautiful light ruby color, lighter than a typical cali zin. Pleasant berry and chocolate flavors made this a wonderful wine that wasn't too spicy. Remembering our trip to this fantastic winery/tasting room was a plus also, strolling through their gardens, picking strawberries and artichokes, and having their chickens beg us for a sip...  Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 1/17/2011: Color is clear, medium, ruby.

The nose is clean, medium intensity, and shows fruit and spice character.

THe palate is dry, medium + acidity (only for Zinfandel) and medium + tannin (again, only for Zinfandel). Alcohol is not present. Body is medium showing off some tannins (so for zifnandel medium +), and body is medium - (I hate that figure but...) flavor intensity is there. The length is medium, with fruit holding right alongside the tannin.s

This is of high quality in my estimation and one of the few zinfandels that well develop well.

A claret style of Zinfandel. (4152 views)
Tasted by Teafan on 12/26/2010 & rated 85 points: Good mellow. Pepper cherry (4095 views)
Tasted by gesusser on 9/20/2010 & rated 85 points: thin not much body to this ; no legs; but pleasant (4442 views)
Tasted by laxman on 8/11/2010 & rated 86 points: Boring! It's always tough when your expectations are high as you pull the cork, but I had heard good things about this wine so was particularly let down when I popped-and-poured this only to find that the traditional bright fruit and spices that any zin lover craves were so subtle as to be a major letdown. Mid palate was also boring. Finish almost non-existent. For $25, there are plenty of other good zins. The $20 Mauritson zin, is much more expressive, while the Seven Deadly Zins for about $14 is better that this Frogs Leap.

There is a chance that this bottle was oxidized, but the cork was tight. Given this experience, I would not buy this wine again although I would try it again if served. (4702 views)
Tasted by Riskreward78 on 8/1/2010 & rated 84 points: This Zin had a nice nose some black licorice, but at first taste did not impress, it was somewhat flat and the finish lacked depth. This is after being open about an hour. I must have had an older vintage with some age at Capital Grille, Las Vegas. I will be patient and keep the 750ml and 1.5l, cellared to see if it improves over the next year or two. (4606 views)
Tasted by team-blackburn on 7/29/2010 & rated 87 points: A good week night bottle. (4671 views)
Tasted by jakuda on 5/26/2010: Opened at cellar temp. Pop-n-pour. Powdery, dark fruit aromas with some slight underbrush and white pepper. In the mouth there is pleasant acidity that is joined with light, but unrefined tannins. Some bright berry flavors come out that leads on to a medium finish. A simple, old school Zinfandel that isn't a sledgehammer to the tongue and nose. (4874 views)
Tasted by Renegade on 4/2/2010 & rated 94 points: This wine is definitely not for those who are looking for overly concentrated sweet Zinfandels. This wine is more elegant and finesse with a medium body, and a surprisingly low alcohol of 13.4%. This is one of the best Zinfandels I have had in awhile in that it is balanced. It has the acidity, structure and tannin for long term aging potential. It gives off aromas of boysenberry, cardamon, cassis and cocoa powder. It tastes of boysenberry, ripe cherry, licorice and cocoa powder. This wine is not ready to drink, it needs some time in the cellar, it should easily improve for at least 10+ years from vintage date, and I am being very conservative in that aging window. (5110 views)
Tasted by Niagara on 3/26/2010 & rated 85 points: Restrained, somewhat understated Zinfandel with plenty of fruit and good acidity. (5208 views)
Tasted by Indulge-Gourmet on 3/20/2010 & rated 85 points: Not much fruit on the nose, not jammy like I remember tasting it at the winery. A little peppery but short on the finish. (5106 views)
Tasted by tginther on 3/8/2010 & rated 89 points: Excellent Zin. Earthiness undertone with wild berry characteristics. (5041 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 1/28/2010: Zinfandel (Waterford Wine Co., Milwaukee): First bottle was corked. Second was muted nose. Thin palate. Innocuous. Easily forgettable. (5643 views)
Tasted by malbecgal on 12/3/2009 & rated 89 points: I would be surprised if this is 100% zin. The nose was closer to Cab. Since Cali wines can be 25% anything else without stating what, this may have a good amount of something else added. It was intentionally stingy in fruitiness with undertones of earthiness. Not a thing wrong with it, but would not be my personal favorite of the cabs in my cellar. (5218 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
