Tasted by pmckinney on 7/31/2014 & rated 92 points: Jammy, dark fruit, and somewhat earthy. Needs some time to open up. Still very good. Drink soon, though. (2675 views)
Tasted by bigdogflow on 4/20/2014: Very lively and vibrant. Dark color with lots of dark fruit. Medium to long finish. Wonderful!!!! (2569 views)
Tasted by Brian.archibald on 12/23/2013 & rated 84 points: Goods but a tad dry (2679 views)
Tasted by Charlie Carnes on 11/2/2011 & rated 80 points: I loved these when they first came out, but they have gone the way of many of the overripe Napa cults and Aussie Shiraz. For a hundred bucks you get an 87 lb. bottle, 16.2% alcohol, and a spiky acidic ashtray. (4762 views)
Tasted by SoccerMark on 5/11/2011: AMAZING, once this opened up (about an hour) it was great, i'd call it 95. Smooth, rich fruit, and more flavors coming through than I can even describe, 45 second finish, one of the best bottles of my 500 bottle collection I've had in a while. The only thing that keeps me from actually rating this a point or two higher is the nose does not match the incredible taste. (4828 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 2/19/2011 & rated 94 points: Clearly my previous bottle was off as this bottle was simply delicious! Wonderful match for grilled filet mignon in the middle of a midwest winter. (2933 views)
Tasted by benny on 9/4/2010 & rated 95 points: OK. This is great wine now. Last bottle. Textbook Calif top shelf Cab blend. Big Bold rich and concentrated. Oak was there of course. Layered wine. Nose palate and finish were perfect... and what you expect from a top wine. If you have some drink ilt now. (3148 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 5/16/2010 & rated 88 points: Maybe this bottle was off or already on the decline, but the fruit was muted compared to the toast oak, with disjointed acidity and alcohol on the finish. Will drink up my remaining bottle soon. (2812 views)
Tasted by CMCLR on 3/4/2009 & rated 90 points: Not nearly as good as the 1st bottle. Much of the fruit had dropped out. (2349 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 7/24/2008 & rated 96 points: Drank with Johnny @ Joe's Stone Crab over Filet Mignon.
What can I say. This is my first Delectus wine and what an honor to have my cherry popped with the Cuvee Julia.
The moment the server began pouring the wine into our glasses we could see how rich and sappy this highly extracted juice was.
At a whopping 16.2% alcohol we let it breathe during our appetizer and salad courses.
In retrospect this may not have even been necessary; the alcohol was in COMPLETE balance with the super sharp acidity and expressive oak.
I'm not kidding!! The wine was in perfect balance. Lots of gorgeous dark DRIED fruit. Sour rasins, prunes, bluberries as well as tar, leather and Asian Spice were all on the nose.
This was an incredibly complex wine. It was a berry bomb, but at the same time showed some really cool spicy characteristics. Ginger and other sweet spices were both evident aromatically and on the palate.
Ok, so the nose is great...but the finish is absolutely phenomenal -- and I don't' use that word loosely. 60+ seconds with length and depth that I've rarely tasted. reminiscent of a Hillside Select.
Overall, this wine is up there with Merus, Schrader and Shafer in my Cabernet/Bordeaux blend experience. Bravo to Delectus. Gotta try some other vintages now... (2571 views)
Tasted by CMCLR on 5/13/2008 & rated 94 points: Fantastic. Millie thought it was tight. (2451 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
