(345 views)
Tasted by Team J & J on 4/21/2023 & rated 90 points: Cork was still good. Color and aroma are still excellent. Paired very
well with a meal of medium rare tri-tip beef, buttered yam, and broccoli. The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry and blueberry. It tastes like blackberry and blueberry. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. (411 views)
Tasted by Theamaronefan on 4/4/2021 & rated 90 points: My third bottle with some cork deterioration. Disappointing that I'm having such corkage issues only with the Grgich in my cellar. Despite the cork issues, a delicate and well balanced Cab with cherry, pomegranite and rhubarb flavors. Soft tannins. If only the corks were better quality! (1737 views)
Tasted by bbmd10 on 5/18/2020 & rated 92 points: Wonderful, smooth, well balanced. Stood up well over time. (2242 views)
Tasted by Dberlijn on 1/12/2020 & rated 91 points: What a nice surprise! Very upfront pleasable wine. Much to like here!
Still dark, muted color and, initially, nose of black fruit and licorice hiding behind some Rutherford dust/earth. Powerful dark fruit taste with blackberry, plums, some licorice and rhubarb, big in taste but with tannins nicely integrated (but certainly not fully resolved). Medium finish.
Drink or hold (in a perfect cellar). (2414 views)
Tasted by TJK on 5/30/2019 & rated 92 points: Magnifique! (2934 views)
Tasted by Theamaronefan on 4/30/2019 & rated 90 points: Deep purple with big fruit and firm tannins. Plum, pomegranate, pop rocks and hints of vanilla and mushroom. Full bodied with good balance. (2722 views)
Tasted by oldcorke on 1/14/2019 & rated 94 points: This is dark blood, and licorice, and deep black blueberry, and rich ripe green sweet pepper, and Rutherford dust. The fruit is powerful, rich, fully satisfying and well offset with searing acid and ripe tannin. This bottle -appears- slightly plummed and with thinning edges, but the concentration and long finish are indisputable. It would be difficult to dislike this wine, unless you indulge in denying yourself pleasure. It is essentially "at peak" now, unless you enjoy somewhat older wines (which is perfectly acceptable). (2345 views)
Tasted by Theamaronefan on 7/4/2018 & rated 90 points: Second bottle in a row with cork deterioration, but the wine was still enjoyable. Well balanced and delicate for a Cali Cab. Cherry, rhubarb, blackberries with hit of vanilla. Medium bodied with round tannins. (2636 views)
Tasted by EvanRose on 11/17/2017 & rated 94 points: Silky smooth tannins, chocolate covered cherrys, earthy and slightly green on the nose. Long finish (2995 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 9/2/2017 & rated 91 points: Drinking at peak, this is all about its round, soft, blackberry, vanilla, thyme and black cherry jam character. Easy to drink, and even easier to like, this is a nice wine, and not at all out of balance. The bottle was popped and poured. The wine was made from a Bordeaux Left Bank blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. (4171 views)
Tasted by EvanRose on 8/20/2017 & rated 94 points: Slow to ope, tight and austere at first. Decanted for dinner and opened up with black and red fruit, medium finish (2863 views)
Tasted by EvanRose on 8/5/2017 & rated 94 points: Classic cali cab - good structure, restrained fruit, long finish. Great with steak on the grill (2758 views)
Tasted by Lype on 5/13/2016: Dark toned fruit, herbal notes, mint, a bit aggressive flavours and acidity. (708 views)
Tasted by sdyer on 12/31/2015 & rated 92 points: Nicely aged. Still good fruit and nose. Opened quickly. I'd given up on Grgich some years back. Renewed faith with this bottle. Shared with friends at a Czech bistro (nice rich food) and was the top pick of the night. (4356 views)
Tasted by DeltaAgent on 12/31/2015 & rated 93 points: Softly acidic dark fruits with a touch of leather after a long aging. Its minerality comes forth with time as well. (3489 views)
Tasted by gestep on 12/27/2015 & rated 93 points: Drinking quite nicely. Tannins have succumbed to a faint but pleasant nose. Nice finish with balanced acidity.

If you had the foresight to cellar this, now is a good time to reward your patience. If your stock is low, waiting a few more years couldn't hurt. (3530 views)
Tasted by birdiefour on 12/25/2015 & rated 93 points: Pulled my 1.5 for Christmas dinner. Delicious cabernet drinking very nicely. If this wine was oaky in its youth, the wood has left. Tannins are gone, great fruit remains, decent acidity, very tasty. Wonderful match to roasted prime rib. (3161 views)
Tasted by rmcnees on 12/5/2015 & rated 91 points: At ten years of age, this is likely at the apex of its drinking profile and will not likely improve further with more aging, but don't be in a hurry as it will hold for several more years.

Dark garnet colored, medium-full bodied, full blackberry and black cherry fruits were accented by tones of cassis, mocha, leather, and hints of graphite and smoke with smooth supple tannins on the finish.

Tasted by WineGuyDelMar on 9/8/2015 & rated 93 points: Beautiful chocolate, cherry notes. Pertectly balanced and drinking beautifully right now. Medium body & not highly extracted as some might like. this is a beautiful representation of a Napa Cab that Grgich has done for so long now. This wine never disappoints me (2072 views)
Tasted by TJK on 9/4/2015 & rated 94 points: This wine won the night. Terrific body and grip. Mouthfilling with tannins, fruit and acids all dancing harmoniously together. Nice dark fruits with hints of chocolate. Was a great complement to the duck and venison enjoyed at Red Mountain. Bueno! (1554 views)
Tasted by mdipietro on 8/16/2015 & rated 92 points: Drinking very well now with some decant time... But could go age longer (1652 views)
Tasted by BGK810 on 6/21/2015 & rated 90 points: Deep black cherry, good acidity, medium length finish. Very nice can that is still youthful. (1913 views)
Tasted by WineCPA on 5/12/2015 & rated 96 points: This is in it's window right now and drinking beautifully. A dark core of cassis, graphite, leather, and black cherry. Well balanced and has a beautiful nose. Medium bodied and not over the top. Exactly what I'd hoped for from a 10 year old Napa Cab. Great QPR. Drink now-2018. But I'd suggest enjoying them now, as I can't imagine much improvement. (2053 views)
Tasted by rkosd on 11/23/2014 & rated 91 points: Old world style with more toasted oak and less fruit. (2524 views)

Grgich Hills Cabernet Sauvignon

From producer website: "Our Yountville vineyard forms the heart of our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, with grapes from our Rutherford and Calistoga vineyards rounding out the blend. We farm all of our vineyards naturally, without artificial pesticides or herbicides, and they are certified organic. the result is a full-bodied, elegant Cabernet Sauvignon with pure flavors and a pronounced sense of place."

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
