On the palate, plums carry over and there are notes of cigars and clove-like spices. However, it wasn't really harmonious or delightful. Just present. Very interesting bouquet of dried flower melange (rose, lilac, lavender), crushed walnuts, gamey venison, blackberry and huckleberry. Big front-loaded savory flavors on the attack with coffee, blood, minerals, and blackberries underneath, transitioning to major league garrigue in the mid and finish. The finish also turns fruitier with red and black currants, some licorice, and minerals in the aftertaste. Medium-low acid, medium tannins giving a noticeable structure. Despite the big attack and presence in the mouth, the length seems relatively short. However, excellent aromas and flavors overall. Many might prefer this more with food, but for me it was compelling by itself. Very good value at $13, and worth repeating. (4355 views) |
